I am so pissed off right now.

I wasn’t angry when I broke the card. I just wanted to make sure that:

i. I will not be able to use the card or account anymore.

ii. I will be forced to open a new regular bank account.

The Story (in brief)

I suffered a failed POS transaction yesterday.

I sent Wema ALAT a mail and they are yet to reply as of now (almost 24 hours later).

I called them this morning and listened to a recorded message about how my call may be delayed because of COVID-19. I quickly cut the call. Their customer wasn’t effective before the virus came along, so I wonder what to expect now.

I later visited their bank and the customer care rep told me the transaction will be reversed within 14 days, if they were sure that I was really unable to withdraw the money.

14 days? Why is this so?

The money doesn’t even belong to me and the owner is very angry with me right now. Someone sent it to her and she wanted to use someone else's account to receive it, but I convinced her to use me—and then this happened.

Worse, she needs it for feeding and I don't have any money to give her. (She wasn’t paying me for the service in case you’re wondering.)

I suffered the same thing in the hands of GTB. (Their regular customer service email complaints@gtbank.com isn't even working anymore.)

In fact, I opened a WEMA Alat account because of GTB’s failures. I thought Alat will be better since they marketed themselves as a “Digital Bank”, but it appears that I was wrong. They are “digital” in name only.

This should be the third or fourth time WEMA Alat is doing this sort of nonsense to me. And that is without counting the failed mobile and POS transfers.

I am actually not concerned about GTB’s and Wema’s failures. I just hate their terrible customer service.

Failed transactions are one thing. I actually consider them normal. However, poor customer service and unwillingness to quickly solve failed online transactions aren’t. And this is unfortunately common with most banks and businesses in this country.

Now, I’ve have made the decision to stop going cashless. I will start moving around with cash henceforth. I’m sick and tired of all these failed POS transactions and sluggish customer service reps.

I know I will still do some online transactions but that will be occasionally (online shopping, international payments, etc.)

That said, I want you all to answer these two questions:

1. Which bank is reliable for online transactions?

2. Which bank has the most effective customer care service in this country?

I’m thinking of opening a Union bank account since I can see they have revamped their business, but I don't want to jump into conclusions as I did with Alat.

Could you all help me out?

P.S. Please UBA and Skye (if this one still exists) are out of the equation. I used them in the past and can confidently say they are terrible. They steal money.

I don’t want Access bank too. I’ve never read anything good about them. They and fraud are relatives. I don’t want Diamond bank either since they are the new owners of Access bank.

So, any suggestions?

Try Rubies Microfinance Bank.
I use them for my personal banking needs. Just use this link below.
https://rubiesbank.page/VwvGGHagHqnGR7xD6

Yes, they are small but they have good customer care service with a bit of a personal touch. You don't need to walk into any banking hall to bank with them.

The big commercial banks act the way they do because they have a customer glut.

Follow the link and sign up.
Thank me later.

Wema is still better bros
I’d never advice my enemy to use Fcmb
That bank is the worst bank ever
I had failed POS transactions thrice in three different occasions
They said my money would be reversed in 21days
They only reversed 15% out of my total money
Till now I’ve not gotten anything
And this happened in 2018
I kept on going to the bank
Writing letters etc
Their customer service is so Damn poor
They’re rude and annoying
I used my teeth to chew my FCMB ATM card with zero joy

Don’t use Firstbank
Don’t use Firstbank
Don’t use Firstbank
Can I repeat again for emphasis?
Run from Firstbank

Unless you don’t mind losing tens of thousands frequently. They have perfected a system where online and pos transactions fail often and then they hope you don’t come asking for it. This happens particularly if they mark your account as a heavy user.

In summary,
RUN FROM FIRSTBANK OF NIGERIA PLC.
I am advising from experience.

Hi. Very simple. Go to their social media handles : Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Go their and seriously drag them. Look for their latest tweet or post with the highest number of comments. Go under the comments and drag them. Make a good case by explaining exactly what happened, upload screenshots. Check back later and you'll get a reply. Then follow it up by providing those screenshot or uploads again. Thank me later. Goodluck
Very correct.
These banks are very scared of bad rep on social media
Once you get to the platforms and drag them ( with proof ), they'll attend to you immediately

Fidelity!? That bleeped up bank?

They still owe me 10k since last yr! And a failed transfer of 7k this year!

They keep posting me! Next 7 days ! Next 7 days.

They only paid back a recent failed transaction, after I told them I had sent an email to CBN...cos they'd pay double if CBN confirms the failed transaction, and a delay In refund from them.
I was about to tell the Op not to bother trying fidelity when I saw your comment.
Fidelity is another useless bank, no lies

As an ex banker once you report a cash retract or dispense pending issues, first report at the branch level then start calling customer care line they will give you the code of your report so you can track the progress of your complains. And believe me it works. They will be calling you from time to confirm if you have received the alert

One failed transaction and you already draw a conclusion about GTBank? GTBank is the most reliable and complete bank in both on & offline services but that doesn't mean they are flawless. safe yourself the stress of opening another account by reactivating you GTB account, register online banking with their customer service a user id and password will be generated for you then download GTworld or use https://ibank.gtbank.com/ibank3/login.aspx to enjoy the best online banking service only GTB can offer.

Note: Avoiding using GT or Zenith card in any pos that belongs to diamond (Access) bank......Diamond find it difficult to settle failed transaction with this 2 banks.

I have been using GTBank for 12years

Blame the new CBN rule.... CBN doesn't have poor Nigerians at heart before making the money reversal rule.

have u gone tru d CBN rule on reversal of transactions?

CBN has given banks timeline for reversal of all failed transaction?

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in its determination to further enhance service quality, particularly quick refunds when customers experience failed transactions, dispense errors or disputes has revised timelines for reversals and/or the resolution of refund complaints on electronic channels, with effect from June 8, 2020, as follows.
1. Failed “On-Us” ATM transactions (when customers use their cards on their bank’s ATMs) shall be instantly reversed from the current timeline of three (3) days. Where instant reversal fails due to any technical issue or system glitch, the timeline for manual reversal shall not exceed 24 hours.
2. Refunds for failed “Not-on-Us” ATM transactions (where customers use their cards on other banks’ ATMs) shall not exceed 48 hours from the current 3-5 days.
3. Resolution of disputed/failed PoS or Web transactions shall be concluded within 72 hours from the current five (5) days.
4. All banks are directed to resolve the backlog of all ATM, POS and Web customer refunds within two weeks starting June 8, 2020
Meanwhile, key service providers in the Nigerian payments system have also committed to establish an integrated dispute resolution platform for the industry and enhance their payment system infrastructure and processes to reduce incidences of transaction failure.
Members of the public are therefore requested to refer to the updated Guidelines for the Operation of Electronic Payment Channels on the Bank’s website ( www.cbn.gov.ng ) for further details.
