Quite a number of them are prostitutes on code, that's what they won't tell you. Even those that have full time jobs do runs as side hustle on weekends.

Plus they have a boring routine...from work to church to house...before you know it, Dem don 30 with no man in sight. Then the aggrieved feminist tendencies spring up in them.

No work life balance
Your summation is a sign that you have been in friendship with a large percent of them.

You raised good points. But no fresh graduate can buy land in Lagos on a 'beer salary'.

You can work 30 years in Lagos without buying half plot sef, blame it on the system. Everything is utterly expensive from feeding, accomodation and transportation.

Unless you wan buy land for mowe, ibafo, wawa, arepo.. u wan dey wake up 4am dey blow go island because u wan save cost on rent ?

That's quite foolish in my opinion because you will fall sick and spend all your salary jumping from one doctor to another.

The best way to hack Lagos living is to live close to where you work. Most of the good paying jobs are on the island...how many people can afford rent on the island ?

The people living on the working and living on the island are not even having it easy...everything is automatically expensive..from groceries, entertainment, lifestyle, school fees, accomodation...etc etc...e no worth am.
That should tell you a lot.
Bro u have said it all.. The property I had in mind was rental ppty

You meant privately or publicly sourced water? If by the private option, a borehole that is well dug contains clean water regardless of the area. I admit Nigeria Government is very shabby with their utility services, but such upscale abode is always exempt of such disservice. I have d presumption that if public service is poor, most people would make a leverage of such latent business prospect!

Baba no clean water, the water is Rusty. Water is supplied by companies to the estate

Bros, you dey reason well. I'm in my 20's and I've lived in Lagos all my life. So I can relate as I mirrored my parents lives.

Dem no even get land for mowe..one idiot go come think say he go build house for Lagos doing 9to5 work....I laugh in covid 19 birus.

Easy bro...
There are people doing corporate jobs here who have been able to buy and build nice edifices all from their 8-5pm salaried jobs.
I knew someone who came to this city in 2013 with 4 shirts, 2 trousers and few native wears, lived with a family friend for a year before he rented an apartment but today at 33, he has a 3 bedroom house at ikorodu and a plot of land few minutes drive from Eputu, ibeju-lekki all from his corporate job proceeds.
I shared his story because i carried his ghana-must-go bag on my head to Lagos park 7years ago.
Professionals who are not even in the oil&gas sector are earning decent salaries enough to buy or build a house within 4 years in this Lagos.
Our prayers should be to God to spare our lives so that we can make the efforts and bless them.

Nice one baba, I'm not disputing that fact.

I'd rather rent a 2bd on the mainland than erect a structure in Ikorodu all in the name of being a property owner.

Though I can build in Ikorodu for rental purposes only and live somewhere else.

Different strokes for different folks.

After we finished school most people moved to cities like Lagos and Abuja after graduation but some stayed back in the east to pursue their careers and business. Fast forward to five years after. 99% of us that went to Lagos or Abuja had not settled down with a wife and were sweating to pay city rent. Most of the guys who stayed back in the east quickly married and started building their own houses at a much cheaper cost at their own pace. People need to start changing the paradigm

I almost wanted to move to Lagos too some 5 years ago after my youth service but I thank I didn't go as I am like those people you just described.

Beedude, God bless you for this comment. Na wetin people no understand be that..you cannot start a family in Lagos and live a comfortable life.

To rent a sharp 2bd na like 500k upwards...how many lagosians dey earn 150k a month if we are being honest ?

Na suffer you go suffer month in month out.

School fees fit send you go back village, note that school fees na 3x a year. Now imagine feeding one child, uniform, books, school bus, lesson...how much u want save...family people still dey bell you for phone say grandma don swallow scissors and she needs money for surgery...na only business men and woman wey dey see daily income of 10 - 20k dey enjoy Lagos. If you be salary earner, na sufferhead mode you dey.
Is lagos as hard as what u just posted now, why are people still trooping into lagos?

Baba people move for different reasons.
Different strokes for different folks and I'm letting you know the current situation on ground. You cannot really go that far in Lagos if you don't have some kind of support (housing, accomodation, feeding and transportation)...

The system is designed to keep one stagnant for some time due to the bills. Lagos is good for business due to population growth....even if you sell popcorn in a busy street you will make your money...but your standard of living is low due to the fact that you are stressed 80% of the time coupled with anxiety issues.

As a young fresh graduate, I would not advice anyone to come here to do 9to5, e no pay unless na oil and gas, telcomms or tech brother. Most entry level sef no dey earn pass 150k...half of that goes to tfare..feeding...and family members...you are running the rat race.. If you are still doing nysc...save the living shit out of that money, go back home..start POS, scanning, printing, passport photograph..infact just have a busy place that churns out money daily...within 6 months...find another location and replicate the same business. That's how you build a viable business.

Alternatively, if you want to go the entrepreneurship route in Lagos, there are good hubs u can go to learn work (computer village, trade fair, Alaba, idumota, ladipo)...after a while you can start up...but if you don't have the means ..na east sure pass....I know one big time business man for east....he dey enter Lagos via night bus to buy goods...that same day...he don enroute go back base... So it depends on what works for you like i said..the internet has demystified entrepreneurship now...u can stay in sambisa forest and do business.

Cheers.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF LIVING IN LAGOS

ADVANTAGES
Lagos has a huge Market for your Products and Services. Infact someone said that if you package a refuse bin and sell it in Oshodi, you will sell off everything in a matter of hours , if not minutes. That is to tell you that there is a market for any kind of products and services you offer.

Lagos has the best nightLife: If you are the type that never sleeps, you love clubbing and flexing then Lagos is your home because as the "City that never sleeps and the headquarter of Entertainment in Nigeria, Lagos is a City filled with fund, coastal Tourism activities, Clubbing, patties and all Kinds of Events.

Lagos Supports and Nurtures Small and Medium Scale Business: Lagos helps you to nurture your Small scale Business. The City has all it takes for an Entrepreneur to succeed, from vibrant Startup EcoSystem, access to finance, grants and high profile events to different Networking events, master classes and exhibitions to mention but a few.

Lagos has many Job Opportunities: Although Lagos is no longer Like before in terms of Job Opportunities, when compared with other states, Lagos is still ahead.

There are many Business Opportunities in Lagos: Your One week Stay in Lagos will bring thousands of business ideas rummaging your brain. The City is full of business Ideas.

Lagos is a City of the Hustlers: If you are born a hustler, there is a high tendency for you to survive in Lagos. If you are hardworking, Lagos is the best place to be.

DISADVANTAGES OF LAGOS

Cost of Transport is on the High Side: In Lagos, if you are not careful you may end up working and have transportation gulp up your earnings. Just yesterday I spent around 2500 naira just to convey myself from Ikeja to Lekki Phase 1. Just imagine someone spending such an amount of money everyday to convey his or herself to Lekki everyday. By the end of the Month he will be spending close to 70K only on Transport. Now you understand while people are working in Lagos, yet they have nothing to show for it.

LAGOS TRAFFIC IS A NIGHTMARE: Lagos is a City where you can stay in the Traffic for many hours. Have you heard the Story of Funke who went to drop her Aunty who is based in London at the Airport. While Funke was still in traffic, her Aunty called her that she had successfully arrived at London. That is a tip of an iceberg on how horrendous Lagos Traffic is. When I first Entered Lagos, I was to attend an Interview at VI, then I was residing in Ojo. Since I was ignorant of Lagos traffic, I woke up around 6 O'clock to prepare just like every other person's living in other cities will do. But did you know that singular act cost me that Job which I was pretty sure of being selected for because I arrived at the interview venue by 12 pm.

House Rent in Lagos is on the High Side: Unlike other Cities in Nigeria, Lagos is the only City where you will pay for agent and agreement as equal or sometimes higher than your House rent. Still don't know why the state Government is not rising up to criminalise such evil perpetrated by Landlords and agents. You will hear them saying 50, 50 for a self Contained apartment of 120,000. Another thing is that finding a decent house might be a little challenging to you unless you have enough bucks or are ready to live in the satellite towns which will be far from the City center. Another thing is may God help you not to enter the wrong house which Lagos is mostly Characterised with.

There is No fresh Air in Lagos: With a population of about 30 Million people crowded in the smallest state in Nigeria by Land mass. It will be a miracle for you to have fresh air. If you need fresh air in Lagos maybe you might just relocate to Ikorodu or Epe part of Lagos which is currently being hit by high waves of urbanisation.

Lagos is a Dirty City: Although the present Government is trying all it can to keep the City clean but that does not take away the fact that Lagos is one of the dirtiest Cities in Nigeria.

There is too much Noise in Lagos: Yes there is too much Noise in the City. From the Danfo drivers and conductors who rant like a Sallah ram, to Agberos who are vociferously constituting nuisance with their cracked voice, indeed Lagos is very noisy except you live in quiet Estates in luxurious neighbourhoods.

Connecting with the Rich in Lagos is a little bit hard: Unlike in Abuja and other Cities in Nigeria where you can always run into an influential person and you connect with them and possibly exchange contact. That will only happen in Lagos by Devine connection from above. Everybody in the City is very careful because of "Onye ma Onye" (who knows who).

FINALLY
Before you make that move to either relocate to Lagos or to relocate out of Lagos. Just sit down with one bottle of cold Trophy and a plate of Isiewu or Delicious Nkwobi and ask yourself some mind boggling questions that will enable you to make a good decision you will never regret.

Lol. Bro, I can feel the anger in the truth. I was born and raised in Lagos but NYSC took me to another state 5hrs from Lagos. It was peace and quiet, cheap housing accommodation, transport is N50 to almost any where, steady power supply all through, you can buy a land less than 1m close to the city, and erect your building without omo-oniles coming to disturb you.
My father has been building his house close to Festac for almost 5yrs now because of omo-oniles. Lagos is over frustrating and overhyped. The disadvantages of residing in Lagos outweigh the advantages by far.
As soon as I'm gallant enough to go solo in this my business, I'm moving back to start life there full time

Don't mind the op. Lagos is a mega city and has so many areas to it both the good and the bad, the high brow areas and the slumps though its not as bad as he has painted it and nothing uncommon with some parts abroad.

I was born and brought up here in Lagos; Ikoyi to be precise and I don't forsee living outside lag cos I've gotten so used to Lagos life that the thought of living in other states just tends to dull my spirit. I've even had to decline relationship proposals just because they are based outside Lagos. Can't deal biko..

Lagos it is for me. Can't live in those other dull and scary states.
