tensazangetsu20: With the fast paced advancement of artificial intelligence, it is only a matter of time before AI start building web application by using a supervised learning model. I have seen AI programs generate perfect faces of real people by just learning from a large data set of similar faces. You can go to thispersondoesnotexist dot com and see for yourself. That is just a tip of the iceberg. Many people think this ai is hard coded not knowing that it can learn on its own using large dataset and applying deep learning. There are bound to be errors but with the rapid pace of emerging AI technologies, it will just be matter of time before you see AI building too notch web apps. All that is needed is to get large data sets of ecommerce website source code and apply a few deep learning and boom, it will generate thousands of ecommerce website that is at the same standard or better than the training data set. Let's watch and see ten years form now what will happen in the AI world. 1 Like |

tensazangetsu20:AI is AI whether built with JavaScript or Guava Script. My point is based solely on the AI part not the language used to build it. |

Let's not derail the thread. Programmers can still make a decent income in this country. Be prepared to do the hard work for the first five years of beginning your career to get ahead. There are so many technologies and frameworks required by programmers including DevOps, software testing, and machine learning experience. Calm down and start from the basics. Hop on any MOOCs others like LinkedIn learning, Edx, Alison, etc, and get a few diploma courses done. Build a few portfolio projects, then seek an internship or free volunteer work. Your project portfolio will get you hired mostly. There is money in programming but passion always comes first and the desire to help people or solve a problem. Putting money before anything will get you confused. Remember that knowledge, skills, and experience leads to success and money that you are looking for. As a programmer, 1. You can get a full-time/or part-time job/Contract/remote work. Some smart guys combine two jobs, the other being remote but would not advise you do that as a beginner 2. Work as a freelancer (e.g Upwork, freelancer, Nairaland) 3. Build software products to sell to companies 4. Sell your completed projects on open market software platforms like codecanyon. 5. You can setup your own software development /IT consulting in future 6. Start a One-man Website design agency. 7. Build the next Facebook, IG or Twitter, even Nairaland. Cheers. 2 Likes |

mcqwerty: Please let us not encourage this. People should never ever work for free for a company. It cost blood sweat and tears to acquire those skills. Instead of working for free for those companies they should work for free for themselves and build up their brand name. 3 Likes |

CAVEAT This is a true story: A very smart friend of mine was hoping to study computer science in the university, so he started to learn web development after SSCE. When he got admitted to study computer science, he got to understand the degree chasing is different from reality (who uses Pascal, Fortran, etc.). Maybe peer pressure or inquisitiveness, he got into cyberSpaceTrick (Yahoo Yahoo), he flourished because he could build website to convince his clients. Fast forward to graduation, he knew what he wanted. All these years he had been saving up for Masters in America. He got an IT related M.Sc in America, funded by him not scholarship. He told me after leaving that he spent a fortune for that, quoting him verbatim 'I did not womanize or engage in all the forms of youthful exuberance and rendezvous in the university because this was the plan'. The hommie saved all the cyberSpaceTrick funds for the greater tomorrow. In less than 1 year after commencing his program, he got a developer job there in America, JavaScript dev. $60k per annum, after working for 1 year, the company secured him a 10 years residency. Now his salary must have been increased and they are working to make him a citizen. N.B: I did not write this long epistle to encourage fraud but to let the doubters know that programming pays. If it does not pay here, then work out modalities to port!!! 5 Likes 1 Share |
