TMKsouth:Though this gap isn't "far" and merely pulled out by South Africa's high per capita income, entire gap is nulified with Gini Index, low IHDI, one third of population living in poverty and innovation index far behind other countries its own class. South Africa itself a commodity run country and nothing on its own policies. Indians who have roamed Africa don't differentiate much between RSA and Nigeria except RSA indeed has some good cities which Nigeria doesn't have. As for me, you won't regret leaving me out. I'm a filthy rich person by Indian standards, leave alone RSA. |

It's actually quite helpful to admit than toeing your line. China is definitely better than India and South Africa is undisputedly best country in classical Africa. It being highly unequal and nowhere comparable to other BRICS countries is also a fact though. South Africa is well behind India in most of sectors and where it leads have many holes and limitations |

Goel: I thought you were the GREAT INDIA of BRIC (intentionally excluding SA). Now you're accepting South Africans live better than Indians - but "gap isn't far", to quote you. While SA poverty is a third India's is a quarter of the population thanks only to the controversial way you measure poverty in India. Real poverty is actually much higher. Everyone knows India is the poster child of extreme poverty and open-defecation. Plus you're the most disorganised country in the BRICS. Everyone acknowledges that SA is a far better place than Nigeria just like your neighbors China beat you guys hands down in everything. You're forever living under their shadow. Don't battle SA, you'll bruise yourself. 2 Likes |

Helllo there, It was an interesting thread and interesting comment of your. Because it was amazing to see someone from this continent is trying to compare with India. But as dont go in fairytails and rhetorics so i would say yes Per capita SA is ahead of India, but world doesn't end here. India alike China is a Giant that cant be compared with every country, particular not from this continent. TMKsouth: 1 Like |

rationalhuman: You're living up to your moniker - rational - I like that. But just coz we are African doesn't mean we should put ourselves down. India is a giant, but a lame one dude. North and Southern African countries can take on India anytime, anywhere. Look at Botswana. SA even worse. 2 Likes

Any Indian or Chinese Mega city or infect any Mega city around the world can not be compared with any of our cities, They will loose because of Air pollution levels. Its common sense. If you compare Detroit with Malawi`s Capital Lilgngwe, You will see Detroit has much worse environment. Compare Beijing with Dakar, Dakar will always have good environment, air quality etc. Its not apple to apple. These comparisons comes from polls, Not supported by statistics, anyone can say anything. I tell you how numbers shown in your post are flawed, Because Air Pollution is much much worse in Delhi then what you have shown, I studied there and lived total 8 years, All those years were like hell for my lungs, Periodic visits to Doctors. They dont use Diesel in Mega cities, Very efficient good fast Buses (Natural Gas operated), Huge Underground Subway Metro train network. still this situation. Any one who would have lived there would not give such low ratings. If you Still Want to compare? then choose any one particular field so that i can bring Credible Statistics and Validated Data (Not from any cheap blog or voting site, but genuine data). Its pointless to share our imaginations and assume everyone would be agree thus i discuss only with Credible Stats and Data Tell me which sector you would like to go? Software development? Information Technology? Petrochemical Refining Complex? Distillation Technology? Science? Engineering? Pharmaceutical production? Metallurgy? Disease and Vaccine research? Bio Warfare capabilities? Industrial Manufacturing? Renewable energy? Nuclear Research? Military Might? Space research? Ionization Plasma research? Communication system developments? Agriculture production? Education, Doctoral Research? There is just no comparison brother, We should not keep ourselves in delusion, until we acknowledge the problem we will be in denial and never progress. TMKsouth: |

rationalhuman: You are over-relying on the aspect of air pollution. South Africa too has some of the dirtiest air in the world due to an over-reliance on coal mining and power generation. Check the proof attached. So it is fair to compare India and South Africa's quality of life, they both have bad air. Other than that, there were other variables on the list that you overlooked: healthcare, purchasing power, safety, etc. Tell me what use is it for India to be a world leader on the research and production list you provided if those achievements don't result in a high quality of life for the citizens? In other words, why are people more likely to die in an Indian hospital than the one in Botswana even though India is an IT and manufacturing giant? India is slacking and is a serial underperformer. China's power on the other hand is undisputed. No African country can give it lip. See South Africa air pollution beneath. This is not just limited to Mpumalanga. 2 Likes 1 Share

TMKsouth:As told before, I'm talking about few parameters. RSA is a commodity based high inequality economy and doesn't stand anywhere near against India in most parameters. The few parameters you are using have holes as well. TMKsouth:Facts speak louder than rants. There are a number of measures to determine poverty ratio at various levels. SA has its wealth concentrated to only a small group and hereby has a much bigger share of population living in extreme poverty at the levels of Afghanistan. That's why it doesn't have a real middle class to run economy. It's just like a white colony. Have we exclude white and Asian wealth, real South Africans (the blacks) won't have living standards even up to Nigerians, leave alone Indians. SA is a known epicenter of crime with rape & crime rates among highest in world further. Its people just don't care as much as Indians. TMKsouth:May be in RIC or even BRIC, not in BRICS in any case. TMKsouth:We still are a far more significant nation and make it only next to big 3, US/Russia/PRC to global impact. Indeed our problems might be big, in 1947, a plundered country with hostile neighbors, both US and Soviets turned against us, tensions over Goa, Gracia and BIOT, low natural resources, large population, that even demographically highly diverse and conflicting enough to cause a civil war. Over that, system of democracy. While others descended into coups, conflicts and civil wars, Indians worked to turn their resourceless country from a destitute one to a major and emerging force. It would have been enough to immediately collapse for administrations like those in Nigeria or South Africa than pulling country into an emerging power. TMKsouth:Can SA even fight a battle against India for few hours? |
