N100,000 invested in 1980 must be worth over N1 billion Naira and dividends of about N400 million in the last 40 years

Sir what of those that bought FIRSTBANK. UNIONBANK. SAVANNAH. GUINNESS. UACN .NB. CFAO MOTORS. PZ CADBURY. UNILEVER. shares in 1980?

Thanks for this post!

If not for the dubious nature of Nigerian CEOs, management, staff etc. We should have at least 20 companies in this country posting this kind of returns.

That would have changed dramatically the investment landscape in the country.

Those who bought First Bank, Guinness, Nigeria Brewery are okay.

1000 units of first bank bought at N3500 in 1993 grew to 56,000 units due to bonuses
The bonus history of Nigeria brewery is far better than Nestle over the years.

Nothing much about Union Bank, if the dividends earned over the years were diversified and reinvested the Investor should be okay.

I just shared this to let people know that after having about 6 months to 12 months living expenses in money market funds, excess funds should be Invested in a business, FG Bond, stock market, real estate , Eurobond etc. If not the money will lose its value.

Always good to invest and make sure the Investments generate income and cash flow

Can DangCem produce this kind of return over the next 30 - 40 Years?

Possible if the economy grows, housing deficit of 20 million units is reduced, infrastructural deficits are addressed. Our population should clock 400 million in 40 years if the population growth rate is not addressed, the people will definitely need houses, schools etc

Sir, I hope u don't mind my newbie question. Does split increase value? I used to think that split results in dilution of share value.

Example, if I own 20 shares at #10 each that is #200. For 1 in 2 split, 40 shares now worth #5 each and same #200.

Looks like split is more advantageous to company, more share to sell later.

If you look at it the other way, you might have just handed over a goldmine! Between you and the buyer, it's only time that will prove who took the right decision.

Bonus shares are usually issued by growing companies,. Most banks have over bloated outstanding shares, so I don't think it is possible for them to offer bonus shares.

If your business is not growing and you issue bonus shares, it will be of no effect. A business should be a to continue to pay the same or more dividend per share after a bonus share.

Stanbic IBTC and Nigeria Brewery give Investors the opportunity to earn their dividends in either cash or shares

What gave you the impression that UPDC REIT will fly after the unbundling, I expect the share price of UPDC REIT to fall after the unbundling. Like what happened when United Capital and APR were unbundled, there was a sell off by shareholders of UBA who were given the shares of Ucap and APR which made their stock prices to fall, but strategic Investors will accumulate during the sell off
I disagree with you on the bolded UCAP & AFRIPRUD where listed @0.50 after unbundling and they continued to rally until they crossed N1.

Wapco made less than 2% profit on their overall investment last year. Had it been they ceased all operations and invested in government Tbills at 4.1% they would have made double that.

I want you to face me. Don't face OGG.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Deposit N1m into someone's account. I will choose Jejebaba's account. Jejebaba is a member here.

Then we tell another person ( Person A) who bought Zenith at N11 to sell 40,000 units of his Zenith bank shares on Monday at N16.90. Because he/she will buy back at 11.90 according to you.

Where this doesn't happen and Zenith keep going higher, Jejebaba will needs to transfer your N1m to Person A to compensate for the unearned gains he may have suffered. The N1m is a projection that Zenith will hit N25 (based on the 40,000 units.

Where Zenith slides to N11, I will make a transfer of N250K to Jejebaba to pay you (Meshpips). The N250K will be the proceed as if you shorted Person A's stock from N16.90 (29th of May 2020 closing price) and bought back for the person A at N11.

Where it gets to N11, Person A will be excited and pocked the difference for selling at 16.90 and buying back lower. Person A loses nothing. It is only when it goes higher that person A demands that Jejebaba pay him/her once Zenith hits N25.

Are you interested?

They were not listed at 50k. You can't list a stock at its nominal value. Dead stocks were not even listed at 50k

It was condition that made stock prices to fall to their nominal value prices of 50k, until NSE remove the cap, now stocks can fall below their nominal values.

You still need to continuously monitor the stocks at least 2 to 4 times a year, to see if the value is still there, the value is increasing, reducing or value has disappeared
