The topic of medicine is a broad one and I mean a broad one. I can tell you what goes on in a premed student and a medical student(GET INTO MEDICINE,READ LIKE CRAZE, WORK FOR SOMETIME, MAYBE TRAVEL ABROAD TO GET NEW TECHNIQUES,OPEN MY HOSPITAL, WORK TILL I AM FUFILLED THEN RETIRE). This is always the trend or maybe slightly. Nigerian Doctors are doing excellently well. But there is a part missing (people). You ask people? Everyone want to become a specialist to gain more money, respect, titles and positions/offices. You want it like this when somebody asks about you "Who is that man or who is that woman"? Then someone will say " Ahh na Big time Doctor e get two hospitals one for Lagos and One for Abuja. Infact e no too dey 9ja but im money ehhn. The pride and the pomp in it we all like it and the feeling of your parents. Many don't want to be General Practicioners, Internists or Paediatricians. Either O&G because of pregnant women and women health is profitable, Surgery because that is the hot cake some go as far as lying to their patients to make money, Haematology& Oncology because of the cost of cancer and blood treatment. Medicine is a calling and until you realise this you will later realise in your life that you were never happy even with titles, positions ,money and fame. A General Practicioner is supposed to see his patients, understand them, be patient with them and care for them. But no 2mins consultation that is all with alot of painkillers and Vitamins, Lumefatrine,Cipro Tab,Arthemeter and so many usual drugs and normal procedures nothing extraordinary. It is a truth that there is no time to attend to patients in government hospitals but make use of that 2mins and if there is need make it 5. Do medicine for yourself, not family because they won't be there when you do risky procedures, get insulted or when depression begins to crawl in. Wisdom is profitable to Direct. 1 Like |
