Hi Landers, I'm looking into starting groundnut oil production in small scales and would be needing from 20 to 30 tons daily. Any good information on how to be sourcing this raw material steadily?

Good luck to you on your groundnut oil production. May the lord make it blossom. I almost started this line of production few months ago.

I would like you to consider this factors.

1) How do you intend to get regular supply of groundnut?

2) Do you think it will be profitable for you to be buying groundnut?

3) How far is your production center to the place you are getting this groundnut? Do you have logistics ready as alternatives

4) Not all groundnuts will give you maximum yield of oil. Ensure you get the best.

My suggestion and observations.

The big guys I think don’t buy in bits or daily. They load their trucks majorly during harvest period when groundnut is very cheap.

Again, have you thought of storage/warehouse? You need to buy large and store for future. The increase in prices in the future will affect your production costs.

I presume you have a good source of power, else you revisit this.

Lastly, I would advise you to do backward integration. Why not grow your groundnut to reduce your cost of production? That may be later though. Better still, you can go for a forward contract and hedge prices.

Groundnut oil business is a good one especially this period of border closure. How do you want to edge competition from large scale producers that has reduced cost per unit? Well, the sky is too big and would always accommodate as many birds as possible.
