edoairways:I disagree with you, first of all why do we pay like ₦6 per min for calls, there's a ₦3 /₦3.5k interconnection fee, the remaining ₦2.5k IHS and ATC gets a chunk from it as per Telecom using Thier infrastructure then the reminder is used by the Telco. Now NCC removed the floor pricing for Telcos sometimes in 2017/18 which means you can go a slow as you want, na your business. Smile came in with their VOIP voice calls, it allows you to have a number on their network, let's say you travel to US or UK. You will receive calls in that line, if someone is calling your line from Nigeria there's no roaming charges to be paid by either party, you can see how Technology has changed the landscape Lagos state government is currently installing fibre optics round the state as part of their broadband initiatives, if Orange decides not to play in the Telco space, they can lease the fibre service from Lagos state to provide Triple Play to Lagos residents, all they will be doing is paying for an infrastructure they are leasing. Now you see that no matter what, there are numerous opportunities to come into the sector, the sectors opportunities is yet to be tapped na surface all the current ones dey 1 Like |

edoairways:You think the market is saturated? What do u think will happen when they give you data at better prices and faster internet services. What i mean is 4g that is actually 4g (not the breeze Airtel/MTN/GLO is sellingto us)and 4g lte thats 4g lte. Not the so called 4g lte we're getting thats not faster than the 2g in Europe. Everybody will port |

Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by COMPAQ(m): 10:14pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
Nbote: I disagree. The Nigerian Market is saturated. Very few people are willing to hey a new line. Even with porting, how many people have actually done that. As for the wishful thinking on cheap data, nothing can be cheaper than the cost of production in the private sector. They exist for profit and not to dash us data. A new entrant will have to recover the cost of its investment. Mtn, Glo and Airtel by now should have broken even and recovered all the cost used to acquire license and expand. Therefore their marginal cost of 1MB or 1 minute is very low. A new operator will have high marginal costs and therefore can't charge lower than the market. |
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by edoairways: 10:19pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
Ramos16:You made reference to the population of US and I refute that by comparing their population to Africa. That a business strive in country a doesn't mean it would in country b. Policies in USA made them had several telecom service providers but ours isn't favourable |

Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by edoairways: 10:23pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
octavian:In reference to interconnectivity rates, the service providers must make profit. The profitability level is low at that rate hence the slight increase in call rates . Glo for example charges N9/min depending on your tariff plan. |
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by COMPAQ(m): 10:26pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
xjiggy: Won't they make profit? Are they here to dash you cheap data? The same issue the other networks suffer will hamper them as well. Poor electricity, vandalism, difficulty in accessing right of way, etc. And besides telecoms services in Nigeria is actually cheap. One of the cheapest telecoms services I have found in Yankee is Mint Mobile. https://www.mintmobile.com/plans/ $15 for 3Gb.while call and sms is free within US, we all know that data is what really matters now. $15 is N6000k. In all networks in Nigeria, Lagos N5k gets me like 10 Gb to 20Gb. On EE in UK £15 gets you 5Gb. So don't know where this misconception of cheap everything abroad for unlimited data keeps coming from? https://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only/pay-monthly-data?CTTag=CT_Sal_PAYMDataPlans_PAYMSIMO_Q1_2019 While speeds in Nigeria are not the best, I have also found speeds in many areas of Houston to be inconsistent. High in some areas and like Naija speeds in others. And the issue in Nigeria is beyond the networks. Its partly due to poor operating environment. 1 Like |

edoairways:it may not turn out as you think, if to say Samsung no dey market, how you won take know say tecno na scrap? in other words, if orange come and up the game, its either the rest step up or die off, las las Nigerians will get top notch service. 1 Like |
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by edoairways: 10:35pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
bigiyaro:One reason why orange may not progress far is the power of the market leader MTN. Yes they may offer mouth watering freebies to attract more customers however that may change should MTN come up with better offer. Customers benefit on the short run but on the long run Orange may loose out. The base stations in Nigeria are few, if orange offer unlimited calls, their network may crash. Infact there will be poor network delivery from all the service providers |
Re: Orange To Enter The Nigerian GSM Market by DedeNkem: 10:43pm On Jun 15, 2020 |
Orange is a quality European telecom company. It will blow out other bad companies in Nigeria. MTN is crap. 9mobile is struggling. Glo is on life support. Others are moribund. |
