My point is not about enforcing lockdown until the cure is found. That's not economically feasible in a disorganized developing country like Nigeria. My point is that people are wrong to abandon safety precautions (face mask, social distancing, etc) just because they believe it's a scam by the Govt. The countries that are opening up now have already learnt how to manage the plague during the months of lockdown. So the lockdown was necessary for them to learn the ropes when it is eventually eased off.

Smallpox virus was completely eliminated via a cure (vaccine). If we let all Nigerians catch Covid 19 to gain herd immunity, we are simply playing a game of Russian roulette, do we know who amongst us will be one of the estimated casualties of about 2 - 4million people (at 98 - 99% survival rate)?
Please help me tell them that Sweden is already a failure amongst her immediate neighbours (Denmark, Norway, Finland) for trying to tow the path of herd immunity (which of course the ignorants calling it scam do not even know either). While it's neighbours record less than 1,000 deaths each, Sweden has recorded over 4,200+
Those calling this pandemic scam do not know how much they hurt the sensibility and emotions of those who have lost loved ones to it. Is difficulty in breathing part of malaria? At that level, malaria is no match for Covid-19.
South Africa reported over 4,300+ new cases with 57 deaths yesterday and some internet experts accuse that the 403 reported by Nigeria was inflated. This is shameful when you know that Nigeria 4 times greater than South Africa in population. Cameroon today has just reported 1,183 new cases with 64 deaths. Scam too, right?

It amazes me that a high number of Nigerians still believe that COVID-19 is a scam. Scam that has killed Abba Kyari, Maikanti Baru, President of Burundi, Tinubu's ADC and now Senator Osinowo. Scam that has almost killed Nasir El-Rufai, Governor Ikpeazu, and now Senator Ajimobi. Will all these notable people willingly sacrifice their lives for the so called financial benefit from Covid 19? Logic requires that if it is a scam, then these guys must have been willing participants in the hoax.

These dumb set of Nigerians keep screaming that COVID 19 is actually Malaria. Ho Ho, Malaria that did not kill Kyari all these years he has been having malaria. Since when did Malaria start resulting in respiratory distress which is what is killing off all these people?

Every person in Nigeria tends to have malaria at least once in a year. That is about 200million cases annually. Death toll is often up to 1million a year, meaning 0.5 percent death rate. If COVID 19 were to infect all 200million Nigerians like malaria, there will be between 2 - 4 million deaths (@ 1 - 2% death rate). Is that not enough for people to take this serious?

And then, these idiots go on to say that why don't they know someone who knows someone who has it or some shit like that. Really?? They tell me that Malaria has been killing over EIGHT HUNDRED THOUSAND people in Nigeria ANNUALLY. Yet in my over thirty years of existence in Nigeria, I have NEVER come across someone who died from Malaria. How much more COVID 19 whose documented casualty in Nigeria is still less than 500, while infections are still in the tens of thousands.

A close family member of mine contracted COVID and recovered. I did not have to wait until she contracted it before I believed in its realness.

I am sorry if you feel insulted by my comment, but if you are not taking precautions about something that can kill you or your loved ones, then the insult is a wake-up call that is perfectly in order.

I asked one of the doubters whether it makes sense for government to shut down its entire economy and lose massive revenue over a scam. He replied they are making money from it. Anyone who denies it is borderline illiterate no matter the level of education.

The prognosis isn't good. I suspect without a simple and super effective cure or vaccine very soon, many African countries that have poorly managed the pandemic will see an explosion in cases.

Burundi is a good example and should give one shudders

Lol, if its really deadly then multitudes of people that went for protests should be down now because of covid or maybe they are all asymptomatic?
You know i still can't wrap my head around thousands of people clustered together to protest in an epicenter.

Those people you mentioned in Nigeria might have died of other sicknesses, and dying in time of covid-19 might have been a coincidence.

Someone like Anthony Joshua, a big superstar was in the midst of a protest in a country that covid have been reported to kill over 20,000 people and AJ is not even tested after the protest.

I just don't understand, but i will say this to you believe all what mainstream media are reporting because they are being controlled. And we ordinary people can't really know anything, so it's not you that will say it it's real or not.

So many things are happening under the curtain.

Brother, the insult was generic and meant to demonstrate the utter lack of sense in such thought process. COVID 19 is not blown out of proportion, Rather it is UNDER-REPORTED in Nigeria. There are thousands of people living with COVID 19 who are not included in the daily NCDC reports. If people are not taking precautions about something that can kill their loved ones, then I'm sorry to say they deserve to be called dumb.

Are you minding these DUMB DUMB NIGERIANS. . I am a Doctor working in one of Lagos state hospital and I can't believe what I read on Nairaland. I am so pissed off and disgusted by the comments. I have never in my life believed that so called educated Nigerian can be so stupid, is there even brain cells in their skulls??. It's understandable when illiterates make some statements, but common?. How can anyone in their right mind call a bloody PANDEMIC a scam?

Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa. They are everywhere and travel hence coming in contact with people where the pandemic is ravaging is a very high possibility. Nigerians have died from the virus abroad, are they also scam??. We should even be worried if the NCDC figures are few because it means they aren't testing which is recipe for disaster.

Lastly, we health workers have lost colleagues. Some colleagues tested positive following exposure. If no health worker in Nigeria have come out to refute the claim that there's a virus and you are there screaming scam, you are the biggest FOOL. Nobody is paying health workers specially to lie to y'all. We aren't even getting the bonus the FG promised. We buy our PPE ourselves because we know what we are up against.

The politicians doesn't give a damn about you enough to shut borders or airports and inconvenient themselves because they want to steal covid-19 donations.
