komekn: You are one 'very rational poster' on this thread. In fact, late CDS Alex Badeh made this point very clear ... about the futility of sealing or closing the northern borders. The borders are just too vast to police. 1 Like |

Odunayaw: A Maj Gen cannot be dismissed. The worst is a demotion to brigadier and retirement with benefits. The humiliation is enough punishment. No nation keeps a 2 star general hungry. That is a national security breach !!! 2 Likes |

Tobiloba2407: Guy,, am not your level in anything. I bet you, If you meet me outside, you may not even lace my boots. Now, to answer you crap. Even presidents have been executed, but does that make it the norm? No. Only the president can dismiss a Maj Gen and that would rarely ever happen. The worst is serious demotion and retirement. Hope you have learned. 1 Like |

Generals and even presidents have been executed in mainly coup plots and failed coups. Never in a civil democracy. Military regimes are brutal governments, so they don't count. |

Reason why US has not been able to seal its border with Mexico completely is a political issue. Congress isn't ready to release funds for completing the Wall. The current uncompleted Wall isn't even continuous. Israel has border fence and it solved majority of it's security issues China has and it was effective. In fact several countries have border walls longer than Nigeria's northern border so why can't we do it?. The goal isn't to STOP but to REDUCE to the bearest minimum all illegal entry and exit and it can very much be achieved. In fact it will be far cheaper than the cost of the hazard not having the wall will cost. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Border_barrier 2 Likes |

We should just die the idea of sealing up our borders, it is impossible the cost is not only abominable, it is ridiculously expensive. The money we will use in doing that will be used to equip our military. The best we can do at the moment is to use technology to monitor our borders. Drones, Cameras can be used effectively, we should as a matter of urgency double up on recruitment, and equip other agencies such NIS, NCS, Civil defence to enable them properly discharge their constitutional duties, the pressure is too much on the military especially the army because they've being doing the job of other security outfits. 1 Like |

The disgrace , dishonor and demotion in rank is more than enough. Officers value seniority and rank a lot. Right now he is in limbo Until the COAS signs off on his dismissal papers and then the President affirms, He is in a hell of a place . There is no guarantee as to when he will get those benefits Time will tell. |

Whyem15: Isreal is not a good example they have been in a state of war from inception if not right from Biblical days. Add to that the continous contention with Palestinian or if you like Philistines from day one and it seems will be indefinitely. The land border wall is not more than 500 miles in addition they have deployed some of the nest technology known to man to keep it under continous observation. Nigeria is country that it seems cannot afford to properly kit it's soldiers. Our combatants are going around in soft skinned pick up trucks. We should consider the USA border wall is projected to cost over $22 billion. Essentially even if Nigeria could we don't have the money. Finally, walls can be compromised tunnels built under them, climbed over or holes made in them nothing is guaranteed. . |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by komekn(m): 9:40pm On Jun 16, 2020 |
ugo4u: There is a saying a picture says a thousand words. The picture you posted was a M1151 HMMWV which is the armoured Humvee. So bit of a contradiction from you. Why would anybody want a soft skinned pick up in a hostile war zone ❓ But to answer your question l would want none of them both of them are a liability. Buy if l had to make choice it would be the Toyota. The Humvee is very heavy and slow bigger and a much easier target. Mali lost near 50 troops a few days ago when Jihadists ambushed them. Why don't these ISWAP affiliates never attack French convoys. There is something to be learned here in asking the question WHY. 1 Like |
