Indeed, The Greater Casablanca region size is about 1,117 km² and over 58% of the city is developed , what percentage of the so called "Greater Nairobi " is developed ?
Casablanca, has good city planing, good roads and wide spread development , but Nairobi does not have all dis
Its called the Greater Nairobi metropolitan.
Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project is under the State Department of Housing and Urban Development in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development. We have so far implemented the project in the entire metro-wide I guess Nairobi metropolitan is Bigger infrastructurally and population wise.

According to NamSip report.

We also have NaMSIP which supports the growth of the Nairobi Metropolitan Region (NMR) into a world class African metropolis through the design and implementation of critical urban services including transport, storm water management, street lighting and disaster management, sanitation and solid waste management.

The project is implemented in collaboration with five County governments which comprise the NMR namely; Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado and Murang’a. Other key partners include the Athi Water Services Board and Kenya Railways.

I know you're here to also learn English.

Integrated slum - is like Nigeria -you saw the Banana video - you find the apartment the bungalow then mansionette then informal settlement.

Nairobi is different. Apartment in one place. And not only apartment. But say 10 floor apartment in one area. You will find an area for 4 floor apartments. Of the same standard fixtures...low finish 10 floor apartments..in one single zone.

There are ZONES - and any building approved must meet the criteria.

Nairobi has order. Slums are confined to one area. That is why they are larger. The rent is 5-10 dollars a month. These are informal settlement illegally built. It's not for lack of money that they are not being developed. It's because it's public land and will be demolished eventually.

Next are high rise apartments with single rooms. These 8-10 floors. For example Nairobi Pipeline. Rent there plays around 30-50 dollars.

There are many such high rise apartments in Nairobi.

Next you go to still 4-10 floors of apartments with 1-2 bedrooms. Likes of Umoja estate. Rent climbs from 50 -200 dollars.

Then nnext you go still to 4-10 floors apartments with better finished - rent move from 200 -300 dollars

From then you start having mix of bungalows and maisonettes - going for 300-500 dollars.

Then LOCATION start to matters....as rent goes beyond 500 dollars.

And by time you're in rundas, karens (canadassmiley - rent can go as high as 5,000 dollars a month.

The point is nairobi one huge integrated properly slumpolis..you don't need videos sometimes to know that, just logical reasoning like the ones I highlighted is a enough to paint the gory image of Nairobi even before stepping foot there..

You don't need a data source to know a slum. Please. Look at KANO for example of slum city. The entire city is one big slum. If you were researcher - how would you to to Ibandan - and start couting slums - not slums - the whole city is one big slum.
Danielnino00:

Up till today, none of you kiberans have been able to drop any data or source that shows that Ibadan has the biggest slums in Africa or whatever...

Everywhere you search "biggest slums in Africa" or " biggest slums in the world " ,you will always see Nairobi and Kibera..

Ibadan isn't entirely an urban area.

It's a very big landmass made up of villages, towns and the city centre...

The rusted zinc roofs may make it look ugly, but it isn't a slum...

The same applies to Abeokuta..

Nairob metro has only two forests - and one animal park. Located in Nairobi city. The rest are farms and cattle ranches that have been developed.
Just30:
In between them are large jungles so the actual built up area is very small

Nigga don't even bother..I didn't read all that...you are not paying me to read up your emotional rants..
Like I said, you don't need to sweat it out before you know that nairobi is one mighty slumpolis sitting on edge of Nairobi river or whatever..

94% are poor.
Unemployment is super high.
Job layoff keeps increasing and people are to pay monthly rents amidst this job loss and unemployment.
90% are living on rents amidst unemployment..
Houses are very expensive.....
There is zero presence of affordable housing..
61% and still growing are eventually forced to relocated to slum and source out a means of livelihood thereby ballooning slums and creating new urban slum within close proximity to the city centre...

Now that's how to reason..a perfect recipe for an integrated slumpolis city.

Ibadan and Kano aren't entirely urban areas .

So you concluded Nairobi has small built up area based on what. Nairobi (including the metro) built-up area is 6,000kms.

I have given the Nigerian peddling the lies facts - and he has not rebutted any.

Nairobi city boundaries were defined in 1963 - that was Nairobi built up area.

Nairobi then was city of 300K. Nairobi has grown beyond there to a metro of nearly 8-9M people.

Nairobi City was long built up. Maybe by 1990s - there was not any much new land in Nairobi.

And Nairobi City has been expanding VERTICALLY - people are demolishing houses and building up. HIGHRISES don't just develop for the love of it.

You can see it in Upperhill, Kilimani and Westland - those were residential areas turn CBDS.

Now Nairobi city has also expanded HORIZONTALLY - to more than 60kms in all the many directions - other places approaching 100kms.

Outside Nairobi city borders - now the Nairobi Metros were large European cattle ranches and coffeee plantations.

After independence - Africans mostly in groups bought these cattle ranches and coffeee plantations - and those have been subdivided into real estates.

Most of these ranches were 100,000 acres large. They have been subdivided and sold as plots or into large housing estates.

So since the late 80s - Nairobeans have been expanding to Nairobi Metros - buying those ranches - and converting them to real estate.

What we call Nairobi city or County are boundaries of 1963 because after long tussle during 2010 constitution - it was agreed that districts of 1963 be the basis of devolution. There had been lot of new "funny" districts created all over

So we went back to 1963 - 47 districts - and they became counties - with those borders as they were.

Just30:

BUILT UP=Developed. I can say the 40Kms radius is completely built-up or developed (Nigeria speak). Btw 40-60kms - you can describe as peri-urban.

From Nairobi center to Kitengela is nearly 40kms - completely built up.

From Nairobi to Thika is 40kms - completely built up.

From Nairobi to Tala - is completely built up.

From Nairobi to Limuru - is completely built up.

From Nairobi past Rongai to Kiserian - 40kms built up.

Btw 40-60kms - it about 50% built up.

Btw 60-100kms - it about 20% built up. Kajiado town is 110kms from Nairobi. Nairobi is extending all over there. Nairobi is now moving Past Kenol in Muranga. Nairobi is moving past Konza city to Salama. Nairobi will soon join up with Naivasah dry port/Suswa...Ngong to Suswa plots are being developed.

Unlike Lagos that is expanding in one direction - Nairobi is expanding in all directions - it has no water body

Nairobi is an integrated slumpolis..that's just a plain fact.....ranting from now till infinity wouldn't change shiit except you put in action to change that..
