I usually don't do reviews even when I get a high end phone but I just have to do this.

I've used iPhones and Samsung phones. My last being the S20 Ultra, one problem I have always had was battery as I'm a heavy user and no matter what I did to conserve battery nothing just works. Mind you, S20 Ultra has 5000mah battery but it barely gets through the whole day. In fact the most screen on time I have gotten on it is 7hrs 30mins on FHD screen and medium battery saving settings.

After the sad battery experience I decided trying Xiaomi, I got Note 9s of 5020mah which has completely blown me away in terms of battery life. I have been trying to run it down literally but I can't. I have been surfing the net, watching movies still I can't run it down. I intentional said I won't charge since yesterday morning....... Guess what? I still have 45% battery left which will last me the rest of the day.

Screen on time is over 8hrs already meaning I can still get about 6hrs SOT.

Overall these phones don't compare to Samsung functionalities but I'm beginning to think Samsung makes wack battery or they fake the capacity.

In Samsung's defence, the high refresh rates and the QHD display is guilty for the battery backup, that is why they over compensated with the hefty battery.

Anyway welcome to the family and enjoy your device.

Ensure you disable WiFi and Bluetooth scanning. Search Scanning from settings to do that.

I think i agree with you about the battery of Samsung and I feel they do it deliberately... Initially when you purchase their phones their batteries are always decent but within few months of usage you will notice drastic changes and I have always been unlucky even when i change batteries they never ever last. I have used two different Samsungs that had my battery counting down like a timebomb.

I disagree with you. When it comes to tweaking and disabling bloatwares and all that, I have been doing that since galaxy S2. I never missed any Samsung flagship since then and I can tell you to leave out the QHD and high refresh rate drama, it simply doesn't cut out. I will put it on their optimization as batteries drain on standby with no app or process running on backup.

Replacement batteries for Samsung has always been a headache for a very long time now. During my Sammy days it was war, except you resort to ordering lemon batteries from foreign e-commerce websites.

QHD and high refresh rates affect battery life, you can verify it yourself. If watch battery drain tests, Phones with 60Hz panels lasts longer than those with 90, 120 and 144Hz respectively.

For a practical. If you have a phone with switchable refresh rates switch it from higher to lower and notice the battery life.

I have tried all that out. I pointed out settings was put to FHD, I even went down to 60Hz, I disabled all bloatwares, went full black theme, set battery on medium saving...... Yet nothing reasonable. I belong to XDA forum where I've seen my SOT is normal compared to others.

My question is, does the midrange Samsungs with FHD screens and lower refresh rate last this long?

If the processor is less power hungry you get longer lasting battery. Then optimization and UI is another huge factor too.
