I'm pretty sure(70%) nl runs on python already with the cherry.py framework u can check it out. Nl is lightweight, fast and best of its kind in nigeria. If at all nairaland needs improvement it should be in the frontend not backend. The backend looks ok. Nl opens on very low end phones which is more than u can say for most sites. Concerning ur slow django code try and reduce the amount of work ur server does on each route i can't help u much without access to ur code. 6 Likes |

ndiuelish: You are right with the cherry.py because when seun was active he talks about it all the time. I am going to reduced the SQL queries per route Do u know anything about wysiwyg editor like tiny MCE 1 Like |

codeigniter:tinyMCE is nice and it works on most languages but have used it with Javascript and python(django) and it is awesome. Nice interface and more plug-ins |

codeigniter:since u re using django u can try out any of- i)django-ckeditor ii)django-summernote iii)django-bootstrap-wysiwyg. I recommend the last option though. |

fortifiedng:From a user's point of view, I see no reason to do this. Django won't make the site any better than it is based on the way the site works. The site already works well and is fast enough. Except if there are new features and we've got a lot of backend logic that needs calculations, you don't need Django here. Besides that can be accomplished with serverless functions. Or if the site employs lots of programmers and they feel working with Python will make them more productive than ever. Except that, there is absolutely no reason to do so. |

"Switch" Imagine rebuilding the house u live in with Aronski blocks because they told u its secured, flexible and so on. I think we need to understand something here. Nairaland is an idea, to me it doesn't matter what your project was built with but what the IDEA is all about. As far as am concerned, more programming languages will rise and if we as developers are unable to build something innovative with what we have learnt we will keep on been the consumers... So the fact anyone has learnt Vue, React, Python or any language out there doesn't mean he/she can... 2 Likes |
