English language doesn't necessarily mean teaching. English education settles the matter of teaching but English graduates teach as well. There are fields like journalism and communication which covers editing, article publication as well as many others. There is literature and phonetics as well. I suggest you learn phonetics it pays like craze besides you know need to be a permanent teacher. Assuming I know this thing I for no dey science I swear but Science rocks!!!

Truth be told I ain't a student of English just a Regular guy. A guy wanted to speak with my sister but she refused because she doesn't speak to strangers and feels it is confidential. The truth is that if you want to make it in English you must be versatile. Please learn how to use Ms Word,Excel,Ms Suite,Publication and a bit of Statistics. It will be an added advantage. This skills will help you when you will want to switch to journalism. I have met many English students and many cannot type efficiently not to talk of the rest. English is not about manual method. Education is evolving so should you. When you have this skills you will be Indispensable.

Advanced English composition has been the most challenging course under language stress. There are other challenging courses under literature stress, but it's usually caused by Lecturers method of lecturing. When I gained admission, I thought Phonetics and phonology will be the most challenging course, however, it's now one of my favourite course.

English is a very good course, I study English and currently in 400l. Concerning your question, you can major in literature or language, I majored in language so I don't really know about literature. In language u can major in pragmatics, sociolinguistic, phonetics and phonology stylistics and many more depending on your choice. I bet it with you if you develop and work hard on yourself in this field you are far better than mass communication student that only carry their course name on head. And beside English is more lucrative that if you are sure of yourself.... see you at the top.

Advance English composition is where you will be taught how to Proofread, edit books ,articles etc, how to write report,minutes,long essay, correct grammar,etc.
