Yes, there were a lot of criticism about the Eko energy design, because it was kinda boring, so that's why they change the design, and i'm glad a proper design is coming on board.

In every planned city - there are land reserved for something in the future - could be water-sewage, public parks, schools, hospitals name it. The land you see that are empty are mostly public utilities. These have also tended to be encroached by slum dwellers. All the Nairobi slums sit on public reserve land. Kibera sits on a forest, a dam and railway reserved land. Mathare sits on a valley - basically riverine - in Kenya - 50ms from the river is reserved but people encroach and build next to rivers -and we have had multimillion demolition.

In Kenya, when you subdivide any land, you donate about 10% to gov for public projects. Gov can then decide to put up a school or hospital or name anything on it. There are also land that were long reserved for future road, rails and all that.

Nairobi city has such reserved lands, land reserved for forests and animal parks. Go to any modern city - and you'll find such empty spaces.

What you have in Nigeria and Ghana are glorified slumpolis -not cities - where low-grade houses are jammed packed like sardines - with no provisions for public utilities, parks, and the works.

It tough to make a developing world city planned.
