Even this kind of positive thread to celebrate a person's legacy is degenerating into tribalistic fights. What is wrong with you guys? |

I remember 'The Palm Wine Drinkard'. One of the chapters in the novel is "THE LADY MUST NOT BE BLAMED FOR FOLLOWING THE SKULL AS A COMPLETE GENTLEMAN" If God says you will be great, you will be. Imagine having just 6 years of education and he did not see that as barrier yet he wrote books and got them published. He also was an associate at University of Iowa. Wow! 1 Like 1 Share |

tot: Most of them have nothing to actually live for... They are largely jobless, penniless, and a bloody nuisance to people around them... Nairaland gives them a platform to act out their failed existences as humans!!! Do well to pity them!!! No progressive, well paid, and fulfilled young person in this advanced age indulges in tribalism or bigotry!!! Fact!!! 3 Likes |

I read one of his books, The Witch-herbalist of the Remote Town, in my teens. I remember wondering at the book's poor grammar, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Now that I know better, I realize the lesson here: our stories and folklore do not need to be grammatically correct - as long as the reader/listener understands the storyteller and enjoys the experience. 1 Like |

obyrich: You posted a bigoted comment then turn round to accuse another of bigotry? Very stale trick. So when Yoruba elites were traveling to Europe for education, your own people were fleeing to Yorubaland? Yet a tribe that looks up to the Yorubas lament daily that they are being envied? The economic refugee had a requirement for service which was rendered by the lad. It was no philanthropy. The young lad sought employment and was paid in tuition fees. So you mean it is the laziness of the parents that many Igbos from the village are sent to the city to be trained by their townsmen? 2 Likes |
