Martial is an SS at best. In a two-man attack he could be devastating because the actual 9 would occupy the opposing defenders.
In a 3-5-2 or on the left side of a 3 in a 3-4-3 he would be a potent weapon.

The dude is also lazy and has an annoying (at least to United fans, it's beautiful as an opposing fan ) penchant of disappearing in games.

For Man Utd to get to the next level they need to look for someone else as a 9. Not Martial. Martial and Rashford like space they can run into and ribble, as a 9 you will barely get that because 2 defenders will be on you.

Yes Sanchez was fast to cover up in the first frame. But Rashford controlled the ball poorly. He could still have recovered tho but he didn't even try. He could have made himself big and put himself in between Sanchez and ball. Sanchez would have had to go through him to get the ball and na penalty be that. Either that or Rashford goes on to score(maybe ).

I think most coaches have this hubris of wanting to prove something. OGS, I think, has made it his personal project to make sure Martial works as his number 9. I don't want to believe OGS isn't seeing the obvious weaknesses of Martial and why the guy just can't be the one leading the line. Martial hardly win 50-50 aerial contests, he wants the ball at his feet but doesn't exactly have the physicality to turn on defenders, they end up tripping him at safe zones, far away from the 18 yard box, he hardly commits defenders in dangerous areas. These are beyond obvious to everyone but coaches always have a stubborn streak which they stick to. I hope for all of our sake, this project gets better for us all, it's not just about scoring goals, Martial should be getting more involved in games and ruffling up defenders.

The issue with Man utd is that they are not sure if they want to be an attacking and possession side or a defensive and counter side

There are players like Bisakka James and Fred who are suited to a defensive game which is why they look very good when they play any opponent that brings the game to them like Citeh in games like those Pogba cannot be hustling to be chasing Citeh players all over so everyone will blame Pogba in games like that

When you face an opponent where you have to attack like yesterday you will see the limitations of these players cos Bisakka won't have much defensive tackles to make but will be required to join in attacking build up which he is lacking at. The same Bisakka that was like motm vs City in the 2 league games where his strength neutralized Sterling will look useless

James who had space to run into will have less, and Fred whose energy and workrate will be useful in counter will now be required to use his brain to create play
