COVID-19: People In South-East Don’t Believe Virus Exists – Dr. Sani Aliyu by valentineuwakwe(m): 9:47am On Jun 23, 2020
The Nigerian government has revealed that most people, especially in the South-East region, do not believe in the existence of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Sani Aliyu, National Coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), while addressing the press on Monday, said at least 60% of the people in the region believe COVID-19 is a scam.

He also said that some states denying the existence of the virus were putting their citizens at risk.

“There’s also significant disbelief in the danger and impact of COVID-19, in parts of the southeast where we did a recent survey, 60 per cent did not believe that COVID-19 was an issue at all. We clearly are not taking the pandemic seriously enough,” he said.

The PTF called on citizens to challenge those who appear in public places without their face masks.

“There’s partial to total non-compliance with face mask and physical distance in protocols by the public as earlier mentioned by the DG NCDC,” he said.

He lamented that many people only wear their face mask either to avoid being harassed by security agents, or when they are compelled to do so.

It's a perception widely held by so many accross Nigeria and not particularly the south east. Such perception is fueled by the fact that there is little or no transparency on how donated funds have been spent so far, and there has been little satisfaction from the public on why those acclaimed to be positive are hardly given expert clinical management or treatment on arrival at the isolation centres and yet they recover. Infact some of them openly protest against being neglected without proper care. There is also the notion about figures being inflated by the government to decieve donor agencies, and many persons don't understand why u should lock them down totally when u aren't optimizing testing, providing any palliatives nor stipends for their survival, thereby predisposing them to loosing their means of livelihood, with no alternative to survival in sight. To make matters worse, politicians are holding rallies and moving about, some without adherence to covid 19 guidelines. In all we know that the severity of Covid 19 in our country seems less when compared to other parts of the world, but over the years Nigerians have lost trust in their government and that's why they don't trust whatever you churn out

Many of us that have suffered nigeria version of covid 19,no longer fear the small boy called corona.

Truth be say fear catch me when i experienced many of the symptoms of coronwa.

If you have not suffer your own corona, try and suffer it so that you will be free from fear of coronwa.

Dr Sani Aliyu from Kastina reporting about South East.

Aboki can not do without talking about East.

You want them to believe it by fire force so that u will lock them down.
Here in Abuja big transport companies moving to southeast/south south like Peace motors, GiGM, GUO, Edegbe Line etc are not working because of d inter state ban imposed by FG cos if they ever transport people FG will close down d company.
This is d major reason why transport fee to East nd South is very high now cos only private drivers secretly do so
But go to Mohammed International Market Mararaba nd see all transport companies moving to north in full action. They are transporting people as if there is no inter state ban.
Go there u will see Gombe line, Yankari transport, Yobe Lines, Borno Express, Gombawa, BLuewhale etc in full action.

Same country, different law

bad...he should stop marginilizing and tribalizing the general problem of Nigeria...the whole populace do not believe on Nigeria kinda covid again and we all believe its a scam simply because of the way the f.g and this ptf team chooses to handle and control it...stop picking on the few so called 5% of southeast region after the f.g sidelined them in giving palliatives and cash transfers to only his northern people,
if i may ask, what about the northerners dt never believed our covid from the start even when d whole country was in lockdown going by that show of shame they displayed in abba kyarie funeral, or was it the southeast locals dt were always caught floating interstate borders hiding and smuggling themselves with cows..

Cross river and kogi are proofs that we can and should have fought Covid-19 like malaria.

Years from now, we'll still be counting our loss in this fight we adopted.
