I would agree with misfortune but not unfortunate.
Unfortunate is simply being unsuccessful and you can't be unsuccessful if small group of people who are at risk of dying of hunger are being attended to when need arise., I can as well put it as blessed country.
We are lucky because any remedies caused by misfortunes in Kenya will always hit global concern and hence reaching the headlines.
Misfortune can be described well in drought infested region like turkana.
That's just a bad luck, but the oil invention in that region also clears off the bad luck.
