A japanese can live in Japan without ever seeing or knowing the price of dollars and will be very comfortable till kingdom come. If USD varnishes today maybe because somehow Taliban manages to bomb the entire USA,the japanese wouldn't even notice because they can get almost all they want locally, with or without dollars. Their currency might be triple digits when compared with USD,but what matters is what it can buy without an intermediary currency playing a part in the littlest process to sell that produce. 15 Likes |

Maybe I really do not get it and I am not ashamed to ask, 1) What parameters was used by you in saying Jpy is one of the weakest in the world? 2) What are the first 5 based on (1) and last (5) 3) Where does a Country like Lebanon stand in this regards? DexterousOne: 1 Like |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ojesymsym: 6:37pm On Jun 24, 2020 |
All these things you listed here are some of the strengths that I know JPY has, so that is why I am curious to know how it is one of the weakest in the world. It is not as strong as the USD I know but how is it one of the weakest in the world is my own personal concern. Canadian dollar is not as strong as the USD yet you cannot claim it to be a weak currency. Theconglomerate: |

A person in the far east like say Indonesia,Taiwan,Philippines etc..will pick the yen 100 times before the dollar because all what he might need to buy to be comfortable in life is found in japan and he will pay cheaper logistics to bring it to his country rather than buying from America with dollars. Does that mean the person is stupid or should have picked the USD instead? No This is what will soon happen to all these shitholes surrounding Nigeria the moment we fix infrastructure, start producing fuel and free up the markets with little government political hindrances. When some of you compare Ghana to Nigeria,I honestly think you are mad,no offense. This is not patriotism but simple reality. Na because of steady light abi wetin 11 Likes |

ojesymsym: JPY is the 4th strongest in the world. Lol! He doesn’t understand what he is saying. The fact that he said JPY was weak, I corrected him, he came back and said JPY “used” to be weak... Shows he doesn’t understand what he is saying. Theconglomerate has not said anything to validate his point about “JPY” being weak. Strength of a currency is not measured like that. If it was like that, CNY won’t be among the top. The equation is not X = 2Y. The question is, is (x1 + x2 + x3 +.....) = 2(y1 + y2 + y3 +....) ? 2 Likes |

invariably, $1 = $100+ (106.80yen) It may interest you to also not that the value has largely been like that since 1986 Theconglomerate: |

ojesymsym:It may also interest you to know that they found the true value of the yen to usd in 1986 Why would you devalue when you have everything going on great for you and no pressures or expenditures to preserve your currency? |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ositadima1(m): 7:16pm On Jun 24, 2020 |
An interesting way to estimate true exchange rate. Take for example samsung galaxy s10 plus, this phone should have the same functionality anywhere and so same value irrespective of location right? It costs about $600 on Amazon and #315,000 on Jumia. If I divide 315,000 by 600 I get about 525. If I am to neglect transportation cost differences I can say that $1 is worth about #525. Anyway, The Economist did same with McDonald's burgers which they called Big Mac Index. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Mac_Index 1 Like 2 Shares |

ositadima1:Shey you now see why I said naira is overvalued and artificial na. It is one thing that is drawing this country back. Everyone keeps buying things at the government's expense. If we can eliminate stealing and review the naira as Emefiele is doing currently,Nigeria will boom! We will have so much local and foreign reserves to fix all we need to fix in this country I swear. 1 Like |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by ositadima1(m): 7:28pm On Jun 24, 2020 |
Regarding the yen vs usd comparison, I think that exchange rate alone does not measure wellbeing of the economy. You also need to factor average earnings of the citizens of that country. A cleaner in Japan can buy a new Toyota sedan after saving seriously for 3 to 4 years, same in the USA. A cleaner in Nigeria cant do that in the next 15 years. 4 Likes |

NL1960: That's not even the issue On a nominal basis GHS is bigger But I'll give you two practical examples There is the bread I like to buy whenever I am in Ghana I really like it for the unique taste That bread costs 5.5 GHS the last time I bought it. In Nigeria That bread will not sell above 3.6. 3.6 is even too much The yoghurt i like to take costs me 12/14 GHS depending on where I buy it In Nigeria The same yoghurt will cost me the naira equivalent of say 7 cedis I have been trying to make this point clear But some here are not getting me The exchange rate (nominal) does not mean much And cannot be used to gauge the health of an economy in isolation That is why I brought the Japanese Yen example Ghana Cedis and South African rand is stronger than the JPY But Japan as an economy big pass the entire continent GBP is higher nominally than USD But I'll rather hold USD than GBP So the person who brought the currency argument to discredit my choice of choosing to rather invest in Ghana than Nigeria is using the wrong metric 2 Likes |

DexterousOne: Do I need to quote your statements? |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by GonFreecss1: 9:23pm On Jun 24, 2020 |
DexterousOne: You can use the words “exchange more for” not “weak” A government devaluing a currency that has more 000’s in circulation doesn’t make it weak relative to another it’s actually stronger than. The Ghanian currency might exchange for more naira doesn’t make it “weak”. Nestle exchanging for more Dangote doesn’t make Dangote with lesser value. And if you still don’t get it, take a look at the arrangement of “crypt0” on coin market cap. Don’t use “Nominal value” to cover your blunder. Exchanging for more doesn’t mean weaker. 1 Like |
