what is wrong with you? The A29 clears a whooping 165 m in a second and you say a proficient gunner can strike it, which gunner biko? Do you think BHTs and ISWAP have guided aircraft guns? Asides that, the A29 rockets have an 8km range which gun will they use to hit that distance? Even Russia is still developing an AA system of that range.

Informed by the interview she gave, the discrediting of the military by her husband, the situation in the NE, would it be wrong for the military to take her in for questioning (not interrogation ) on what she knows in order to get a wider picture of what’s going on before releasing her?

Remember that above the majority here you seem to imply that Bokoharam’s terrorising is competent and Nigeria’s soldering is incompetent, which means Nigeria is facing an existential threat. Under what circumstances do you believe that the spouse of this soldier is beyond questioning as a female and mother?

Guy just talk dat u hate the A29

Low risk deployment.

When allied troops call for immediate CAS they send in F35, F16 and if their is the time the A10 but not the experimental A29.

It's the Afghan airforce that uses them not the USAF.

The value of something is intrinsically linked to the price. My issue is functionality against price and best value.

In general the NA needs at least 1500 multiple armoured platforms which include MBT's, IFV's, MRAP's, APC'S, LAV 's., etc as well as 50 UAV's to have complete 24/7/365 situational spatial awareness over areas of contest in the NE.

Among many other things required.

Lengthy they may be but far from the facts I disagree.

You have a narrative and you look for the rhetoric to support it, not a substantive deduction but an emotive one.

With regards to the A29 my view is underpinned with the question of " best value and most effective use of scarce resources." $600 million for 12 turboprop aircraft that will take 3 years for the first aircraft to be delivered and 6 years to complete the contract. When we are fighting a existential insurgency is IRRESPONSIBLE at best.

On the contrary you have made completely delusional misguided deductions. You and other claim this aircraft is the best COIN attack aircraft. But that's opinionated balderdash.

But you don't substantiate your position opinion with anything beyond very weak conjecture and assumptive emotive led opinions.

But back to you tell me one item that is UNTRUE and not Factual
.

You must appreciate that opinions are not facts but they should be underpinned with some knowledge and or substantive rational.

Faulting the military higher ups doesn’t quite cut it. Even the puff puff seller by the roadside can opine so. Sorry. Now he’s thrown his family into disarray for nothing.

You know the top speed of the A29 and you know the noise a turboprop aircraft makes giving you much more early warning.

Do you think the Boko guys will be waving welcome flags. I don't think they have very accurate and proficient gunners but they could get lucky considering the number of gun trucks with HMG. And that will be a $38 million➕ aircraft turned to rubble.

Hopefully the pilot will not be captured and used for murderous bloody deranged PR.

They are buying A29's for the Afghan Air Force but the USAF uses F35, F16 for CAS even more than the A10.

Where exactly is the US using F35s to chase insurgents?. Pls don't misuse the term CAS. What we are doing against Boko Haram is not what we probably will do against a conventional force like the Chadian army.
As for the US and using F16s against ISIS, there was a time ISIS stupidly became a conventional army. I believe that was one of the few times the US used F16s to counter terrorists but only for the range and maybe flight over contested airspace. A29s are just the right platforms for high tech, cheap and high precision delivery of ordnance against hidden insurgents at the current time.

The A29 Tucano is marginally bigger, has longer range and a bit more maximum take off weight.

Both aircraft's have the same engine model: Pratt & Whitney Canada (PWC) PT6A

OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE: AIR TASK FORCE DESTROY TERRORISTS’ LOGISTICS BASE SCORES OF FIGHTERS NEUTRALIZED IN A DEVASTATING AIR STRIKES AT TONGULE, BUKAR MERAM IN BORNO STATE

1. A Boko Haram Terrorists’ (BHTs) logistics base has been destroyed and scores of their fighters neutralized in another set of successful air interdiction missions executed by the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE under the subsidiary Operation LONG REACH. The air strikes were carried out on 25 June 2020, at Tongule and Bukar Meram in Borno State after series of surveillance missions indicated a resurgence of terrorists’ activities at the 2 settlements. Accordingly, the Air Task Force dispatched Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets to engage the 2 locations.

2. At Tongule, where recent credible intelligence indicated frequent convergence of BHTs, about 35 terrorists were spotted by the NAF surveillance aircraft in different parts of the settlement as it vectored the fighter jets to attack the target area. The munitions from the jets hit designated areas within the settlement, destroying some structures and taking out many of the terrorists.

3. Similarly, at Bukar Meram, a BHT logistics hub on the fringes of the Lake Chad, the air strikes, which were carefully timed and executed in multiple waves for maximum effects, resulted in the obliteration of designated portions of the terrorists’ facilities. Several of their fighters were also killed in the process.

4. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, commends the ATF for their dedication and professionalism. The Defence Headquarters equally urges them to intensify the air offensive against the terrorists and all other criminal elements threatening the peace and security of our beloved country.

You are being emotive with pre- conceived notion, but you have nothing to anchor it upon.

Everything you have said is assumptive but birthed from your imagination absolutely nothing factual and or substantive.

In Afghanistan check how many USAF offensive CAS engagement have been carried out by F16, F15, F35 and then the A10. Then add to that list by the USAF the A29 in this regard near ZERO that essentially NONE. I haven't included UAV's and the ubiquitous Apache that all insurgents dread. We are talking mainly fighter aircraft.

With regards to Syria and Iraq the USAF use predominantly the F16, F15 and F35.

Back to your opinionated proposition in the bold. How did you arrive at that deduction

1. A29 is not cheap if you procure at $40 million operating costs become irrelevant. It's like buying a Ferrari and wondering about the cost of petrol.

2. Delivery of precision ordinances is not the exclusive preserve of the A29. It's like saying my TV is HDR with 4K. In today's world every modern combat aircraft is precision capable.

3. On the issue of cost, we always consider opportunity cost, what other platforms are available and at what cost. Numerous and better and cheaper.

If the USAF, it's high value partners as well as NATO are not using it as the front line aircraft in the fight against insurgency.

Then how did you arrive at the FANTASY that this is creme de La creme of aircraft in COIN.

Indeed the USAF have been carrying out this experimental research and appraisal of light attack turboprop aircraft for over 11 not 7 just years as l had earlier stated. The USAF have not been able to arrive at consensus opinion to adopte these experiment aircraft yet. It means your inference is not well though out.

However, if you had based your opinion on the experience of the South American nations like Colombia and Brazil who have been using the A29 in a limited COIN and attrition warfare it would have more weighting but still far from conclusive.

I am sorry that's not true.

A good number of have become so advanced they have face recognition software.

To release footage of people heads getting ripped off and body parts strewn across the ground is just too gory. It then results in negative PR.

But below a Turkish UAV in Syria used to take out some alleged YPK fighters that Turkey calls terrorists. You can clearly see thier faces indeed the number plate could be read. This the level of precision night and day that can be deployed.

Going by your logic the same principle will apply to helicopters because they are loud as well.
The Pilot and WSO would have seen and engaged the target before they (BHT in gun trucks) scan the skies, acquire and engage the A-29.
The A-29 has has guided rockets which can be employed at stand-off range.

Even with dumb rockets, the FLIR AN/AAQ-22 will automatically track targets.
While AA gun in the hands of BHT remains a potent threat to any airbone aircraft within range, the risk can be mitigated
by acquiring and engaging at range.

In all the A-29 is a potent angel of death if properly utilized tactically by your war planners in the NE theater.

PS: The only cause for alarm in the deal should be the unreliable and unpredictable nature of uncle sam.
If you piss him off or he changes his mood, he can and will render the A-29 impotent.

I particularly like the Apache.

However, what happens is that you may fly high and on approaching the area of contention you drop altitude and at that low level you really can't hear until I'm almost on top of you.

It really depends on the mission and how much stealth you need.

Considering how many missions that the Apache has carried out in very hostile territory under heavy fire, very few have been shot down. They are also very well armoured as well.

Guided rockets require a an additional weapons system, there are different ones. I am not certain the A29 has that. I know they don't have ATGM's from some of the contract details released.

It looks like the NAF have an aircraft not neccesarily combat with ISTAR capability giving back situation awareness and target acquisition information to the pilots.

It could be anything a twin engine turboprop at a higher altitude, etc

This is from operation Serval that was over 5 years ago. I remember it because a number of VBCI were damaged but troops survived.

It's bewildering to me that only 41 French combatants have been lost since Operation Serval and now operation Barkhan. That's in 7 + years of deadly engagement in this region.
