No wonder my Father often spoke glowinglying about the man[Aikhomu].

Yes, Adm. Porbeni was Flag Officer Commanding East. That was in the days when the Nigerian Navy had just two operational Commands. Long before the creation of the Central Naval Command.

I've heard of a certain Admiral Koshoni. Patrick Koshoni.

Admiral Ntarko? Never heard of him. Could that by any chance be Vice Admiral Nyarko? Murtala Nyarko? His wife used to be a teacher at one of the naval schools in Ojo.

About the partying, those guys sure know how to feast. smiley

Do you remember a certain Ebitu Ukiwe, sir? He was de-facto VP under IBB before Adm. Aikhomu. Briefly. Remember?

Sorry it was a typo. Koshoni was the CNS from 1986-1989 and Admiral Nyarko took over from him. Nyarko later became the deputy chief of defence staff. Scroll up, I wrote about Ebitu Ukiwe when I wrote about order of precedence above.

I guess I missed that. Eyes must have strayed.

I will definitely look it up.

Thanks.

You know my father had to wipe his eyes correctly the day he saw Nyarko campaigning on TV for the first time? He was running for the Adamawa gubernatorial seat at the time. The old guy just couldn't believe it.

Yeah, and I figured it was a typo too. But I wasn't going to jump into conclusion about that. Had to be doubly sure.

He's the man who never did anything for his community or so to speak. Is that the kind of man you like to admire? grin

My dad said that people in Aikhomu's community had vowed to burn his house in the village when he leaves office. My dad died before Aikhomu left office. He said that Aikhomu refused to provide water or electricity in the community, instead he built a giant mansion there and they had promised to burn it down. A week or so after he left office they burnt his house and Aikhomu ended up living in Apapa, Lagos. I knew the family very well (knew his children too).

Though he did do a lot for football and sports in general.
his hometown has a federal teaching all because of him.

The hospital was already existing before he became vice president. Just before he left office they issued a decree to convert it into a federal teaching hospital. The name was basically changed from Otibhor Okhae Hospital to Federal Teaching Hospital, Irrua.

it is a known fact na. Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, is situated in Idumebo community, Irrua, Esan Central LGA, Edo state. Aikhomu is from that community.

He is the reason Edo has a second federal teaching hospital.

Remember federal character rule?

You are just trying to downplay his role in converting that mere health centre Otibhor Okhae to a full fledge federal teaching hospital, that's not fair.

is this your proof? When I asked you to prove what you said, I expected you to show me a picture of Aikhomu commissioning the teaching hospital. Instead you're typing local government location.

Amin is one to talk, someone who promoted himself from major to His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, CBE, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular". He also proclaimed himself to be the "King of Scotland". Amin promoted his uncle from the rank of lieutenant colonel to the rank of general and made him vice president. They are all the same.

You heard wrong. Babangida is not a field marshal. There has never been a field marshal in Nigeria, although the president, by virtue of his position as commander in chief, is considered an honorary field marshal.

The chief of naval staff, Augustus Aikhomu, being decorated with his new rank of rear admiral by the head of state, Major General Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chambers of State House, Dodan Barracks in 1984.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the person sitting there is Ibrahim Alfa.
