you are right he wasn't hyped normal regular updates were given about him.

what prompted komekn to harshly criticize Osimhen was his initial invitations to the SE at the beginning of rohr's reign as coach. he was feeling the boy was invited on sentiments not appreciating that the boy was a special talent who performed fantastically and creditably at the u17s and u23s respectively. like i argued that time every country now and then fast tracks it's special talents into their national team even when they haven't hit stardom. cameroon took an unproven samuel etoo to france 1998, england took theo walcott that hadn't kicked a ball in anger in the premier league to the 2006 world cup in germany. if those countries benefited from such decisions and heaven did not fall down i coul understand why komekn was bellyaching over a few invites to assess the boy.

Why I am so enamored with Starboytwo 's post on the aftermath of Osimhen's resurgence and his new crown?

1. the prestigious Marc Vivian Foe award is awarded to the best African talent regardless of age in Lique 1.
Starboytwo: "...this guy will be Africa's representative to battle, Mbappe, halland and other Top young striker to rule the world in the coming season.."

Starboy for one did not say he is better than Mbappe et al but will be Africa's representative to battle (considering the award is giving to best African in Ligue -- very apt.

2. On the back of a very fine debut season in Ligue 1
Starboy: "...he is only behind mbappe, ben yedder, and tied with almighty NEYMAR for goals in the scoring chart.."

Starboy based his assessment of Osimhen on goals ("rolling with the big boys" ) and spoke factually. No exaggeration spotted.

3. Osimhen's performance in Ligue 1 considering his age
Starboy: "..for a 21 year old striker, he bagged 20 last season... this season before the break, in a new and much bigger, tougher league, he's bagged 18 already and 4 assist....

Starboy made reference to Osimhen's previous club/league and how he has done well even in a bigger challenge. FACT

4. Osimhen's recent exploits with SE
starboy: "my guy has 4 goals in 8 cap for the GREEN WHITE GREEN"

What is more to add? in fact I endorse this post 1000 times. It would pass any fact check again and again.

Chriskels is right. Osimhen was hyped. And I was at the lead in talking up Osimhen's potentials even before his 2017 journey at Wolfsburg began.

And I can take you all way back to 2016 posts where TheGoodJoe and I had a couple of discussions where we pictured Osimhen as the lad who will be leading the lines today for us ahead of Iheanacho.

I recall predicting in 2016 that Nacho may have to make way for Osimhen in the No.9 role. I even had Isaac Success in the convo then. I said I see Nacho's future in the Super Eagles as the man behind the striker or one who could play alongside another. But in Osimhen we had a striker who we believe can grow into the player that will make that No.9 role his for years.

What is happening today has been analysed by TheGoodJoe and Myself. And I am sure a few others chipped in.

Chris, you are on point. In convos held as far back as 2016/2017, we always had Nwakali and Osimhen in the conversations about our future/long-term Super Eagles lineups. We talked up their immense potentials multiple times. That is what they call hype is it not? So why are they now saying we never talked Osimhen up? Lol.

I recall our calling Osimhen, the little Drogba. I was at the forefront of this again.

Even when Osimhen scored his first Professional career goal for while resurrecting his career at Charleroi... I remember I had to log in to come celebrate that first goal wildly. But several didn't understand why. Today, I believe they do. They called it hype then... And now they deny we hyped the boy? Hahahahahaha

Even on Chukwueze, I recall your update on the possibility of him getting promoted to the first team very soon but even before that the likes of BascoVanVeli had made a bold comment about us capping the lad at senior level already even while he was at Villarreal B. His argument was that we don't have a player of his kind in the team and we probably haven't had such before even. A left footed right winger. Basco felt he was ready even at that time.
Ofcos I agreed but I took the cautionary route so as not to raise so much alarms. But as usual some didn't agree with Basco.

Then ofcos your update dropped of a possible first team promotion for the lad. I remember we were all following his development at Villarreal even to the point where he got them a little close to promotion to the Segunda I think.

ChrisKels:

What did my post read? I clearly stated Chuks wasn't rated as much as Osimhen until his debut, when you wanna talk about hype, the players that were hyped in here pretty well were Nwakali and Osimhen not Chuks. Post AFCON Chuks wasn't hyped, he was rather praised for his exploits. Like we didnt call Osimhen Drogba and Lewandoski abi?

We kept talking about him even when he was at Wolfsburg. We maintained he had the huge potentials to turn out good for us just as we do with Nwakali right now.
I remember even Tbaba1234 posted a link to a video of Osimhen's run and finish in a training session at Wolfsburg. We reacted to it and affirmed the kid still got it despite the struggles. We believed. We kept up the hype.

You call the one we do now with Nwakali hype but it was the same thing we did with Osimhen back then. So Chriskels is 100% on point. You guys just don't know or maybe you don't remember.

This is why I laugh everytime una dey throway the word "hype" in here. Lol

Do you know how many top scorers of the U-17 WC since 1985 go on to be world beaters? Not very much I'm afraid. But look at Osimhen today.
In life, you make your own company and beat out your own path. Auba did it and Osimhen looks on course too.
Besides, Enyeama had a wonderful career. Gervinho also played top level and is still active today.

TheLoneCitizen:

Of the last 10 winners of this awards, only One, Aubameyang, has remained consistent at top level.

4 of them have played for Arsenal.

To be honest, Osimhen is not in good company.

Listen man. Don't let anyone here try to color your statement or make you not say your mind as you feel it or make you limit your sense of optimism on the lad. You are free to say whatever you want about our lad Victor because he has justified over and over and over again our early hypes on him and very early predictions on his talents and growth.

And Victor will not only be Africa's rep... He will be in the same convo with those guys you mentioned. In fact, he already is in the same convo. A few experts reckon he is the fastest striker/forward alongside Mbappe in Ligue 1. So my good man... Talk on. Fear not. Victor is one of your starboys and a little praise done with genuine consideration for the talent in question doesn't hurt. grin

Starboytwo:
his quality was never in doubt... Victor Osihmen...

HYPE or whatever you call it, this guy will be Africa's representative to battle, Mbappe, halland and other Top young striker to rule the world in the coming season, he is only behind mbappe, ben yedder, and tied with almighty NEYMAR for goals in the scoring chart... first season already rolling with the BIG BOYS

Yes!! Here is another. Starting in goal and I hope he gets a clean sheet. He's had it rough but I know we got a talent in this guy if he just gets his bearing again.

He faces a side (Spartaks Jurmala) that has at least five Nigerians. 3 are starting for now. The other two or so are on the bench.

I was so crazy about Nacho's finishing until I watched Osimhen. I have not seen a striker wrap his foot around the ball when shooting like Osimhen.

With Osimhen coming in, I opt we play a similar system to Enrique's Barcelona. As Guardiola puts it, a Machine made up of excellent forwards.

With Success, Osimhen and Iheanacho, setting up as Neymar, Suarez and Messi. All forwards with brilliant goal scoring records.

A big lie. The hype on Chuks began long before he even faced Barca and Madrid. The hype on Chuks began when he was at Villarreal B with the likes of Chriskels, BascoVanVeli and me talking him up. Even Tbaba dropped some positive comments on Chuks.

Most especially after he did this with Villarreal B about two years ago...
