This is Malaminta. Operation Commander, Civilian JTF, Damboa LGA, Borno State. One of several civilians who fearlessly picked up arms and joined the military in fighting Boko Haram at the battle front. He died yesterday when the terrorists attacked Damboa. RIP.

Deterrence bro! If tank is used effectively, it can deter terrorists from attacking an area it is deployed in. It's gun can be used to take out bokoharam's guntrucks kilometers away and save lives of soldiers. There are many different ways tanks save lives.

Why do you guys subject us to these kinds of BS? You are posting rubbish and you think you are making a point.

Do you know how tanks work?. How easy are they to use against fast moving insurgents who move very close to your positions.
Have you studied the vegetation and terrain?. You think it is desert?. No it usually is not.
There are sparse forests, 6ft high sahel savanna shrubs, winding roads, hills and valleys.
The enemy has suicide bombers, the enemy holds civilians as human shields. The enemy sometimes disguises as Nigerian Army soldiers just to get close.
To load a tank, fire and reload is at least 10secs, how does that help when the terrorists dismount quickly, hide and start firing RPGs?

There are so many interesting dynamics to fighting insurgents that absurd simplification should never be made.

The Nigerian Army is buying new, ultra modern, high grade hardware but the focus is far more than Boko Haram

I don't engage with caustic and vitriolic rhetoric spewed from the gutter.

Even with all that you still failed to give just one LIE.

Until you have washed your mouth of all the filth and gone back to school to learn civil behaviour, you will only have SILENCE.

You think you earned a right to civility with the repeated senseless lies you spew here?
You think you have the right to pull out shit from your anus and plaster it here? like when you said NATO declared A10 not fit for purpose till I showed you where they specifically asked for it?

Didn't you lie the A-29 experiment has lasted for 7yrs?

Or when you lied that the F35 was a CAS program when it was actually a JSF program?
You are lucky im in a good mood!!

No point chronicling your lies, the right question you should ask is; have you said any truth lately?

Take your lies to a coffin shop, if you can't present the facts, shut the fvck up!!

No he is not making a nonsensical proposition.

In Monguno there was one MK 3 Vickers MBT which has a fairly modern, fire control system, a laser range finder and it's 105mm gun is stabilised it can shoot on the move.

It's tracked and over the rough terrain it is probably faster than a rickety gun truck, which it can easily run over and squash.

The terrain is Sahel savanna, the Vickers MBT has higher (3 meters) elevation and obvious night and day magnification as well as thermal sights. That means all round spatial situational awareness.

It's fire rate albeit it is manual loaded is about 10-15 rpm. It's range is 5km at 2km you are talking 100% accuracy. It has a coaxial mg as well as a 12.7 mm HMG on the turret.

It's armour will protect from Rpg7's and HMG fire.

Essentially what that means that one Vickers tank has the capacity to take out 20 gun trucks and chase them down, a HE 105mm will turn a gun truck to mince meat.

So if used tactically on the move with right positioning it should be able to take out 10 gun trucks in 10 minutes or less. And clear out any foot soldiers with it's machine guns.

Boko have nothing to contend with the Vickers MBT. Even if they attempted to use a SVBIED it will not be able to get close enough before being blown away.

Using the Monguno situation it should give you in the hands of trained operatives overriding advantage.

And if you are talking Sahel savanna then the MBT wins every time. When you add supporting troops and other armoured assets Boko can not contend.

although I wasn't around in 1985 but whatever arsenal they must have fielded has become obsolete in today's war compared to the calibre of armour we have in our inventory now.

Am not sure drones and reconnaissance aircrafts were in existence then

That's not exactly true particularly with ground assets. There has not been dramatic change.

First most ground assets can be upgraded and modernised to meet current standards. But in reality there has not been huge changes.

With regards to ECOMOG that started in the 1990's to the early millennium.

What has probably changed is advent of the MRAP and precision weaponry attached to armoured fighting vehicles and other armoured vehicle platforms.

5 Humanitarian Workers Kidnapped By Boko Haram Beg Federal Government Come To Their Rescue

Four humanitarian workers and a security guard, abducted by Boko Haram terrorists earlier this month, have appealled to the federal government as well as their respective organisations to intervene for their release.

This was contained in a two minutes and 37 seconds video clip released by the terrorist group on Sunday.

The video showed the humanitarian workers from Action Against Hunger, Rich International, International Rescue Committee and a staff of the State Emergency Management Agency urging the government to do something about their release.

In the video exclusively received by Daily Trust, all abductors were shown sitting on local mats begging the authorities.

"My name is Abdulrahman Babagana. “I am the camp Manager of SEMA in Monguno. “I left Monguno on our way to Maiduguri but they captured me on that day and we came to their base.

“Now I am in their hands.

“I am begging the government to rescue me from this plight. “It was June 1st we encounter them and as I am speaking, it is June 21st.

“Please, come and rescue me,” Abdulrahman begged.

AStaff of Rich International, Abdulrahman Dungus, said: “On my way going back to Monguno, we were caught by this army called the Khalifa on the 8th June.

“I am appealing to my organisation to do whatever they can to get me out of here,” he begged.

A private security guard, on his part, said: “My name is Joseph Prince. “I am a staff of Alje Security Organization.

“On my way from Maiduguri to Monguno for an official assignment on the 1st June 2020 as at 11:37am, we encountered Khalifa soldiers and they captured us and of course took us to where we are now.

“As I speak to you now, today’s date is 21st June year 2020.

“I am still in their custody.

“I am requesting that my organisation should please rescue me.

Thank you.” Ishaiku Yakubu, a staff of Action Against Hunger, an NGO in Borno State, said: “On the 8th of June 2020, on our way going back to Maiduguri from Monguno, we were caught by this army called the Khalifa.

“They brought us here and actually we don’t know where we are.

“I want to beg my organisation; Action Against Hunger, to do something about me to see how I can be released, ” he pleaded.

Another captive, Luka Filubus of International Rescue Committee, based in Monguno Local Government Are, said: “On 8th of June, I left Monguno for Maiduguri and had an encounter with Khalifa soldiers.

“They captured me and brought me to their base.

“As I am speaking with you, it’s 21st of June.

“So, I am appealing to IRC to come and rescue me from Khalifa soldiers.”

Daily Trust had reported that suspected Boko Haram insurgents abducted four persons, including three humanitarian workers and a soldier along Monguno/Maiduguri highway.

OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE: AIR TASK FORCE OBLITERATES BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS’ STRUCTURES, NEUTRALIZE SEVERAL FIGHTERS AT WARSHALE IN BORNO STATE

1. The Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has dealt another decisive blow on Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in the North East of Nigeria with the destruction of several of their structures and neutralization of their fighters at Warshale in the Northern part of Borno State. This was achieved through air strikes executed on 27 June 2020 as part of subsidiary Operation LONG REACH after credible intelligence reports as well as days of aerial surveillance missions established that the settlement was being used as staging area to launch attacks against friendly forces’ locations and surrounding civilian settlements.

2. Accordingly, the Air Task Force dispatched a force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets as well as an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft to engage the location. The NAF jets scored devastating hits in their multiple waves of attacks resulting in the destruction of several structures in the settlement as well as the neutralization of some of the terrorists.

3. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, commends the ATF for their dedication and professionalism. The Defence Headquarters equally urges them to intensify the air offensive against the terrorists and all other criminal elements threatening the peace and security of our beloved country.

Baptism of fire .
This became known as the MINIMAH doctrine
the infamous incident whereby Soldier's army wives at the height of the dark days of 2009-20014
demonstrated outside the barracks that they didnot want their husbands being sent to the N'East
LT. GEN ( RTD) Minimah took a couple of days off to relax and then coolly informed everybody that if that incident ever happened again
He would personally flog the wives with a koboko and drive them out of the barracks
There were no more incidents
The ARMY then informed all prospective soldiers they are not looking for job seekers
and first call of duty will be the N'East.

For DSSC it's more of having good PR, and longevity because mostly you're there to practice your profession and not core soldiering e.g Medical Doctors, Lawyers, engineers etc.
As for SSC/RC it's a combination of many factors infact you have to be brilliant to make any headway as one have to go for lots of courses, and pass them. Unlike DSSC that promotion is almost automatic the RC/SSC have to earn same since they're mostly found in the teeth arm of the service, they have to sit for exams and pass to get promoted.

Falsehood magnified. The NA is actually buying tanks for offensive purposes against highly defended Boko Haram positions. Pls can these stories about shooting 155mm shells at 'technicals' moving fast and winding to evade shells. We have all seen Vickers MBT in action against Boko Haram. They actually captured the tank and left it behind because they could not operate it. They have also captured a number of Sagiae "tank killers" and have fielded them often. How did they capture the tank?. They mobbed it with suicide attacks and presumably climbed aboard in the heat of battle.
Take it from me, sinpers are far more effective against insurgents than MBTs. When they hole up or mass in hundreds with technicals coming in a line along a road, maybe there is the case to be made for an MBT but in a wide level field engagement with shrubs and tall grass, you can't take out technicals fast enough.

Thank versus technical....a modern tank with modern fire control would destroy 5 to 6 technicals in 60 seconds, trust me if the bht loose that many vehicles in so short a time they will turn around or halt their advance....a mbt is even more effective at destroying technicals than atgms..... tank guns are even more effective than atgms....because tanks guns are faster and more accurate. .....if a atgms crew and a tank sight each other, the tank would win, the problem with our tanks in the north east is lack of situational awareness, and the crews are gotten by surprise and run away, also lack of practical training, actually shooting moving targets either actual shooting range or realistic software, so even the tank crew don't have confidence in their ability, if they can't hit technicals how do they hit tanks, against popular belief, tanks are very very fast, compared to wheeled vehicles off road.

You don't even need sabot rounds, any kind of round with high explosive warhead would do the job
