I haven't been to the bank since the breakdown of this virus, I had to go today because I had no other choice.
I left home around 10am with a female cousin of mine, and got to the bank before 11am. The bank is a GTBANK, I actually got to know it's the only branch of the bank that is operational in the whole city. It is understandable when I met lots of crowd outside.
We heard we had to pick up numbers so we met with a security that gave us our numbers in succession. Since it is GTBANK, of course we all stood outside, packed like sardine inside the sun, I have seen some banks provide chairs and canopies for their customers but not GTBANK o.
Now I know the reason why some people are being sceptical as to whether the virus is really here or not, or whether it is really as bad as they make it seem to be.
...over hundreds of people were packed outside, body touching each other, facemasks worn on the chin, yet these banks doesnt feel it's totally illogical to not maintain social distancing outside the bank but call in 10 people after every 40 minutes.
Come and see adults fighting each other because of numbers, even the security men sef dey do joro, they'd carry their known people inside and leave the rest of us hanging.
After standing for over 4 hours I eventually entered o, customer service area sef no social distance, few staff were available to respond to huge number of customers.
If Corona virus dey true true and it is as bad as they claim then all of us for don get this thing. In as much as I dont want to be a part of people saying there isnt Corona virus, I think this thing isnt as bad as they make us believe. Imagine if one person already has that virus, what would be the fate of the rest of us according to NCDC?
Over 200million citizens and a test of like 150k has only been done. Isnt that a joke?
I dont know if these banks are plain stupid or they are following a irrational laid down protocol, but it doesnt make sense. You dont crowd people outside and practice social distancing inside.
Many bank branches should open up, this will prevent a lot of customers from going to just one branch when the others are opened. That way social distancing can be practised better because security will have less customers to deal with.
I went to the bank healthy and now I'm back home with headache, even as I type this. Na to take drugs sure pass now.
Make God dey save us.
Please share your pathetic social distancing stories.

Those people were not jampacked because they doubted the existence of the virus; they came to withdraw money to EAT at all cost! Have a nice century.

Picture would have gone a long way. Come and see what is happening at Lagos North East. This same bank treats people like thrash. I went there around 9am on a particular day and left the bank hall 6:55pm. Even at that, I didn't succeed on what I went there for.

It's really sad.

while I fault the bank for not providing canopy and chairs for the customers, I want to say that there is little or nothing the bank can do to the customers outside their premises.

Nigerians are stubborn and it's almost an abomination to follow simple guidelines and directions. Most people on that supposed queue want to enter the bank for issues and transactions that could be carried out on ATM, Online banking platform or calling the online contact center.

I have witnessed where someone insisted that he wants to collect his money on the counter even when the sum could be withdrawn via the ATM.

I just hope Coro doesn't vex for us, people wey go die due to negligence or plain stupidity plenty!

This is about the lies of social distancing especially in a coutry like Nigeria. Isnt it hypocrisy to jampack hundreds outside for hours only to call them in bit by bit?

This is the crux of the matter. Lagos is a stunning example. Do your banking on the Island in VI or Ikoyi and meet no queues at all for ATM or even going into banking hall.

Meanwhile, most banks on mainland are war zones as the OP described. Main difference is that folks on the Island are pliant and progressive. They have embraced online banking that frees one from needing to visiting the bank. They are comfortable using POS and online payment platforms.

Contrast with mainland where many want to visit the bank to transfer or withdraw 2k. They dont trust POS and remain disinterested in online banking or even electronic short code transfer.

It really is a tale of two worlds.

My candid advice to you is just go and open account with zenith or standard chartered ( if in lagos) and activate ur app, token, internet and ussd code. Also collect your Atm.

U can open the account online sef.

GTBank is dead to their customers this period, just go to any of their social media handles lately, you'll see customers replying any post with insult and they still don't care. They're just the worst performing in this covid era.

As if I should cry recently I went to renew Atm (after going earlier b4 6am to collect no).

Their yeye security men will b insulting their customers and allowing small girls ( that can't stand to greet me on a normal day) to be shunting the numbering.

-Its already trending that like they've problems and are just using covid to mask up.

I used them as my main company bank b4 covid. Agh! now these magas don't collect cash n cheques, customers can't deposit. Guy sharply I migrate zenith. And I'm cool for now.

GTBank Corona pass covid sef!
Tuehhh!

the bank must lead by example in observing the covid guidelines and protocols, banks doesn't have the capacity to enforce people outside on safety precautions, it is the duty of all and sundry.

Bank can find a way to enforce social distancing amidst their customers outside bank premises.

Its like that everywhere.

Nigeria has no regards for their customers or clients.
Especially all these firms here in the country. One thing they dont know is that they need our money and patronage to continue being in business.
See most of oir banks are mean and wicked to their customers.
What prevents them from changing their car lot to a sit out kinda. Providing canopies for shade.
It wont even cost them upto 100k per branch. But nk.

Everyday we keep lamenting on how bad the government is.
Hmmm, if they give some of us chance to rule this country ehhhhh. Na die we just dey.
We are all wicked and corrupt and unjust in this whole nation.
Yes, 95% of us are .
