Is that fourth slot automatic for Spain and England? I know they are the top 2 leagues worldwide and in Europe but I think their 4th place teams has to be involved in the playoffs at only the later stage(s). They don't begin with the rest of the bunch in the playoff rounds. I think they come in at 3rd round or so before the last round that determines who make the Group stage proper.

Okay Dan. I just checked. You are right. All four are automatic. Same with Italy and Germany. That could mean France's top 3 are also automatic (will have to confirm that too). Other teams from other leagues battle it out in the UCL playoffs for group stage slots.
