That barbing salon can also land him in a loss making position via low patronage and expenses on diesel. The higher the risk the higher the return. Fixed income investments have low returns for a reason. Lets always bear that in mind.

I pity those that will derail, I keep saying I don't want too much money, maybe that's why am poor but I don't care because I am comfortable. if you need big profit then take more risk. Tbills is for us now, 4% is cool, still the best we can afford so keep your excess profit investment, I love Tbills for now.

Fair enough

But still

You still need to take an element of risk....
With a part of your income anyways

An unemployed graduate who won a lottery of N2 million, will do well for himself using 50% to 75% of the money for business than putting 100% of the money in a fixed income..

We were discussing on a WhatsApp group yesterday, a banker of about 15 years opened a bar some years ago.
The business was generating revenue but his workers didn't make the business to be profitable. It was the money he made in fixed income that he used in settling up the bar. He has closed the business and booked his loss.

He is now fully into the stock market and fixed income. And uses some of his funds to ship second hand cars from US and Canada, refurbishes and sells them in Nigeria.

Low patronage, because of Covid 19 a lot of people cut their hair at home. I have not visited the barbershop in 3 years.

Very easy to give myself a skin cut

Investors will always make investment decisions that are proportional to the level of their risk tolerance.

However, global economic dynamics necessitates a continuous review of investment portfolios so as to make required divestment decisions in order to cut losses and maximise returns.

In my honest opinion, being overly conservative and risk- averse is a big economic flaw!

That is a JAMB question .

It has to do with laziness of going to the barbershop every Sunday evening.

You see

There is one thing I always say

Maybe it's because of my background as an igbo man..
That makes me see things this way...

But what i always say is...

One do not jump into business

You dont just start business......

There is always a learning process you have to go through if you want to have a fair shot at success in your chosen business, be it apprenticeship (nwa boy and internship is the same btw grin cheesy) or years of personal devt and research
And maybe even both

That's why it worries me when I read comments on NL that go this way

I have 600k I saved up; what business do you advice me to do

And people will start dropping suggestions

And the person takes a dive

And more often than not

Loses his money.

Its just my view that we need to shift our perception of this business / entrepreneurship talk we have in the Nigerian space

Being overly conservative and risk averse is highly risky and destroys value

N4 billion in cash, will lead to value destruction in 10 years. If you are very conservative, get your annual expenses for 10 years in cash and invest the rest in income generating and value appreciating assets

With N4 billion, N1 billion should be able to comfortably handle his expenses for the next 10 years. The remaining N3 billion should go into investments

Let me tell you real estate and portfolio Investments are the best for corporate guys.

Where will an assistant manager in a bank have time to run a bar. He either resigns, learn the business and face the business full time. If you can't do that, it is better buying properties at good prices or doing portfolio Investments

Well, different strokes for different folks.

Do know, however, that it's even easier to grow N4b to N40b with the right investment knowledge and risk appetite.

God forbid it that He will entrust N4b in my care and I would give to the 'federal' gofament of naijayria in return for a miserly 4% per annum.

Olorun maje!

My curiosity is why would one neglect mutual fund to invest in today's treasury bills at this ridiculous rate? Some naira denominated mutual funds as at today are on or above 7.5%
