And @OP I'm not in position to tell you how to spend your money òöó,,, But I'd say you had better use the money to get a landed property that is if the money isn't really mend to get a "CAR" as you've stated, Coz a Car itself is a liability, and it gets to wreck in due time when there is no proper maintenance""""
God bless "U"

I planned to pass by but had to respond to this thread.. 500k is half a million naira, and there are PLENTY options in that budget. The only issue will be selecting the RIGHT OPTION.

I’m not a car Guru, but I’ve owned some over the years, and out of maybe love for cars, youthful exuberance or business mind, I’ve driven some, (and experienced 5 as my own).

Here’s my 10 cent.

1- Stick to cars with cheap parts & easy to fix mechanics: common cars that you are running away from are your best bet because sellers have their parts everywhere base on demand. With 500k budget, u don’t want to be requesting for parts from china!!! Do you?

2- please compromise, right now delete your love for a particular style or particular car. You want to buy logically- that is : an affordable practical car, with less issues. Not buy emotionally: that is- the kind of car you like, or you feel it is good!

3- shell out some change for an auto expert, usually a good mechanic. It s your first car, you know almost nothing yet about it, and buying a lemon car is far more easier than reselling it , or worse managing it !

4- know the budget, usually before buying car, TAKE YOUR TIME, know the cars that fit you budget, and choose the one slightly higher than your budget (let’s say 700-750k) then bargain down. You’ll be surprised. Also to know gross worth.. i use jiji to check price (may or may not actually by from there) i just check. Be careful with online markets also (overly priced, trust issues, avoiding buying car theft).

5- cars that may fit your range :

MOST MANUAL cars between 2000-2007. (Sold my hyundai elantra 2009 uber registered for 800- very clean).

Incase auto is your choice, please pick from

-TOYOTA
-GOLF
-HONDA (civic/city only).
-Hyundai (check for ac issues)
-KIA (check for electrical or AC issues).

Cars to avoid,

HONDA (accord series)
Most NISSANS
Ford and other cars.

I hope this is of help.

Good luck buying.

It is best you save more money or look for a loan and buy some Toyota. Toyota cars are best, bro!

Car gurus in the house please kindly help me suggest which car would fit my budget,
I am actually planning to buy my first car as my family is growing big and moving from point A to B is becoming stressful for us, hence I decided to get a very good & sharp Nigerian used car with a budget of 500K max.

I want a car that is very durable, reliable, fuel efficient, cheap and accessible parts, meanwhile I don't want Toyota or Honda as they are too common on Nigerian roads & I also believe they re not the only best car options we can get. Though I am looking at Nissan Almera 2001, Nissan primera 2000 to 2002, VW Golf 3 and Mazda cars from 1999 to 2002 models.

Please kindly help me as I need your car expertise to decide which car to go for ASAP.

Thanking you in advance

Thanking
get a neatly used 1997-2000 Mercedes C180 or C200 thank me for the rest if your life. It was my first car too and a total joy no headaches. You can also look at the very beautiful 2002-2003 Nissan pathfinder 3.5ltr v6 ( big. Used... I can lay my life down to vouch for the economy and reliability of both cars.

OP whatever choice you're about to make please stay away from Ford cars unless you have nine lives.
Its electrical components/sensors nags alot and the resale value is very very poor, that is if you're lucky to get a buyer.

Okay i didn’t clear the air lol.

Accord is actually a good car, infact i prefer Honda designs to toyota (Yes, i said it!).

But for a first time car buyer, whose maintenance culture is not balanced yet and a very strict budget, Accord series with 500k would be EOD , Babyboy, or clean bullet. And the two former may take some money for repairs and maintenance for a starter,

Gaskiya.

I’ve used Civic, and ACCORD.

I may be wrong tho, please input.

Like i said i am not a car guru, but judging from car owner perspective. Always consider how easy your car is to fix?

So question is how many auto repairers are actually good with VOLVO? Now.

Plus their reliability index is low.

If you are a new car owner or low budget, pls stuck to cars that almost anyone can fix to avoid stories that touch!
