Kwanza:
A mild drama occurred on Tuesday in the Senate as the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, exchanged words with the Senate Committee on Labour and Employment and Productivity and those of the House of Representatives over innovative public works job creation programme meant to create 774,000 unskilled jobs.

Trouble started when the Minister was accused of lopsidedness in the process of recruitment of the 774,000 persons across the country’s 774 local government areas.

The lawmakers accused Keyamo of failure to carry them along.

After Keyamo was accused of lopsidedness in the process of the recruitment, the lawmakers called for a closed-door session.

But the Minister said he was invited for public hearing and not closed door meeting, adding that he will not say anything unless there is media presence.

Keyamo, while briefing the newsmen after he was walked out the Committee Room, accused the lawmakers of planning to hijack the process of recruitment.

According to him: “They started mounting pressure to me to bring those that will be recruited from state to state. They want to me tell them how the programme will be done from state to state.”

“I said you can’t direct me how to do that because that is taking over the power of the President (Muhammadu Buhari). You can’t accuse me of lopsidedness issue publicly and close the door.”

“I did not insult them. I only insisted that we should do it publicly. They want to direct me on how to do it. They can’t direct me.”

Our lawmakers are the highest paid in the world yet no remarkable achievement since inception of democracy in 1999, no reasonable law has been made, all they're interested in is either to pad the budget or highjack available jobs for themselves. Npower was highjacked by them and they want to do the same again can't they create jobs with their jumbo allowances? or is it a crime for them to create jobs in their constituencies?

The minister & lawmakers need to resolve this issue amicably.

While it is true that lawmakers are not normally supossed to recruit, the fact that they approve the expenditure gives them the right to seek clarification & answers...

Go back and read the report again.

Keyamo did not attempt denying them any clarification and answers.

Yes, he accused them of trying to hijack the process because they wanted the session off camera, why? Why behind closed doors.

This is entirely different from "refusing to clarify and answering questions". This is never the bone of contention, stop trying to create a reason for them because they have none. Keyamo never refused to answer any question and clarify any issues. He only insisted that the session should be public so every one sees and hears it, but the crooks wanted it behind closed doors.

Must the situation be viewed from your own perspective?

The whole scenario has varied components, plots & sub-plots, so I see no reason why you are insisting I go in your direction.

I picked on the perspective that interested me. That Keyamo was ready to answer their questions does not remove the fact that he felt the NAss were only trying to hijack the recruitment.

That said, NAss are crooks but so are the Executives. They are all trying to gain one-upmanship in their game of deception.

Gosh!!!

What's it with you chaps & this seige mentality of its it's not your view then it's not right?

You are viewing it from ulterior motives by NAss, that's fine. Can't I also view it from the perspective of arriving at having a common ground?

Come to think of it, has the executive truly justified the expenses on its social welfare programmes this far?

Where was keyamo's indignation when NAss was approving executive loans behind closed doors?

You have every right to view it whichever way you want and I am not contesting that. The way I see it, if they wanted to arrive at a common ground, they should not have invited him to a public hearing. After failing to publicly humuliate/intimidate him they then wanted to move to a close door session. As, the minister has pointed out, the role they want to play in the exercise does not fall within their purview.

Glad we agree on that.

I do not question the NAss having ulterior motives, however, the Executives are not exactly saints either...
