Well, Covid-19 is not a death sentence. Many more Nigerians than the reported cases are actually Covid-19 positive. Majority are asymptomatic and many more recover with little or no medication. Deaths recorded are mainly people with serious underlying health conditions with compromised immune systems. Pls even if you believe you have a strong immune system, you can still contact & spread Covid-19 to people & loved ones around you. So pls take all the necessary precautions & stay safe. 6 Likes |

Vicvalentine: Really? Tell me about it. Let me tell you something. The reason Covid-19 has not killed too many people in Africa is because Africa has a very young population. Because life expectancy is already low at about 52 years. It has recently been shown that most infected in Nigeria are from 31-40 years old. If Nigeria had life expectancy of say from 74 in men and from 82 in women like many Western countries, deaths would have been high too. As people get older, on the average, they accumulate co-morbidity (several illnesses) including high blood pressure/cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, lung/airway disease and so on. These we now know increase risk of severe Covid-19 illness and death. I am not writing here as a novice. 5 Likes |

Dear Good people of Nairaland, please kindly take a minute to read. Earlier this year I got an admission offer from a school in US but my application could not be evaluated for funding due to late submission. I had to differ the offer till next year and will have to submit GRE score that was initially waived because of the pandemic to be evaluated for funding. I was told if i could write the GRE and score very high coupled with my good academic background I'm sure going to get the funding. I already saved about 50k for the exam until I was told I'll be needing an International passport for the registration. I inquired about the cost of doing that which was 17800 on getting to immigration I spent nothing less than 40k to get the passport done. Now I'm I've just 10k left and the cost of the exam is 60k. And the reason why I've to register now is.because there are not so many centers and if one does not register early enough (at least 3months prior) the scheduled date might not fit into your plan because of limited centers, and in my case my result must've been ready by December so I can be evaluated early enough when there would be more funding available and less competition. I was able to raise the initial 50k by going to site with Surveyors and work as an instrument operator but the whole pandemic issue has affected the availability of jobs already and I'm even still being owed. So, I'm pleading with eyes full of tears to any kind hearted person to please come to my aid and support my ambition. I'm very positive of acing this exam and getting a full funding. 1 Like

This NCDC is very calculative about the cases. Cos, the higher the rising in cases, the more patients discharge. It's well! Peace to the world! |

BAZ001: I'll answer some of your questions as someone living in a country that has been through some of the worst with COVID 19. When it comes to the Corona virus and being safe, one has to know that everyone within a house has to be safe all the time. One person going out is the same as everyone going out. Steady washing of hands and the use of the right hand sanitisers is also vital in the fight against Corona. Let's look at the so called mask in question, very few people actually have the right mask required to stop the spread of Corona. What a lot of people have out there are non P3 or N95 mask which are technically useless when used in a confined space with a covid 19 patient. Be safe, eliminate all but essential movement and not seeing that friend of yours will not hurt you in the long run. The Corona virus is real and should be taken seriously, however without the element of fear. 3 Likes |

martineverest: Covid is everywhere in Nigeria... If it's all over Delta, then it's all over Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Edo, Kogi, etc... The rule is simple: Test more, get more figures... Test less, get less figures, and vice versa!!! It's only a matter of time before you start seeing diminishing figures, not because ncdc has put a lid on the infection and spread across the nation, but because they have drastically reduced or stopped testing. This will remain the same across the globe. Corona is not going anywhere till widespread vaccination comes in... We need to get this straight, and maybe stop chasing shadows, pretending to be on top of a situation that has been out of our hands since April, and crack on with our lives and nation. 1 Like |

Echvfhb:Social deprivation, inequalities, poverty, and those things you mentioned lead to what? All largely lead to poorer health than the more privileged people. In effect a poor black person in America who has a chronological age of 40 might have a biological age of 60. When you measure his health indicators. Even after adjusting for genetic susceptibility due to ethnic reasons, age still plays a big role. You cannot honestly claim that a poor black American of 70 years does not have more susceptibility to severe Covid-19 disease than a 35 years old family member of his who lives same living standard. |
