Alani Bankole: Stop Imposing Wrong Candidates On Nigerians by JosEast(m): 6:35am On Jul 02, 2020
A foremost Nigerian businessman and politician, Chief Suarau Alani Bankole, described imposition of candidates by political parties as the bane of Nigeria’s politics and therefore asked the leading parties in the country to stop the practice in the interest of the populace.

Chief Bankole, who is the father of a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, spoke yesterday in an interview with Daily Trust in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He noted that parties often imposed “wrong candidates” during elections, leaving the voters to choose between “two evils”. He said, “Imposition of candidates has become the bane of Nigerian politics.

It’s so bad because it’s nearly impossible to win an election without belonging to either of the two main political parties. So, people believe they should put their own people there for their own benefit. Whereas, it won’t be out of place to expect somebody when he gets to power to do certain things for some people who supported him, but at the same time it should not be at the expense of the public.

“I think what we should be talking about in Nigeria today is to stop imposition of candidates so that we chose popular candidates within their own parties to enable the electorate have choice between good candidates, because if all the parties impose wrong candidates, the populace will have no choice than to pick one of them, and that one may not be good.”

Way to go. One godfather will just be annointing cronnies into office for his selfish gains and the rest of Nigerians would be hailing them. Its bad for our democracy.

Chief Alani, where is your Son Dimeji?

He can't even win a councillorship election in Adigbe alone.

When they said power is intoxicated , please never argue.... Dimeji is a very big reference case

The dad was too gentle to correct him while Mom spoilt the son's future career by being over protective and over possessed...

Direct primaries should be constituted in the law, the Godfathers have gone a step ahead to grip political parties producing candidates from its members, thereby restricting peoples choices...

This guy still dey nija, the way he was wailing that time, u will think he had fled from Nigeria... But he said the truth, the reason governors steal so much is because once the godfather has been settled nothing will happen... He had to steal for himself and for those that put him in power without a ounce of fear of the electorate.. So he very right in his opinion

well said..
on how I see tinubu for APC and Atiku for PDP.
I go put my vote for a very different candidate.
even if I loose, I would feel justified that I didn't contribute to the country's growing calamity.

the likes of Fayemi, El-rufai, Amaechi are worthy presidential candidates for APC.
while tambuwal, kwankwaso, umuahi are much better for the PDP.

I for add wike to PDP.
but his hooliganism turn me off.

where was he when his son embezzled billions?...why didn't he complain?

typical attitude of Nigerians: they will only complain when corruption aren't in their favour, but when it favours them, they either remain mute or defend corruption
