Your PHP version does not support the way the array was declared

Try this instead

$this->db->update('xc_site_settings', array('value' => strip_tags($this->db->escape_str($this->input->post('site_name')))), array('config_key' => 'site_name'));

although there was still many errors from [], but i manage to use the same array() to solved it all.

I am finding this hard to believe, that array syntax is supported by new PHP version. You may need to reinstall your PHP or you messed up with settings. array(); was the original PHP syntax but a new syntax was [] declaration. It was introduced in PHP 5.4

And when I requested your PHP version you said 5.3 and 5.5.

Both interpreters cannot be working same time. Set the 5.5 as default interpreter.
I still advise to not to modify your code yet, you may break things if you weren’t the one who codes it.

oh, i tested it on 5.5 and 5.6. i move to 5.3. all the same isssues.

it has been fixed with the array()
all the parts that i encountered error. i use it to change.
