The notion of Stron currency is not real reflection of thingsthings on ground

However it most impacts on foreign loans and imported goods, that's where the real change comes

Exactly

He needs the help more than anyone here.
Japan and S.Korea as your example for a currency debate?
Then you might as well include them in a ''slum'' debate grin

You make sense someway somehow,

But you were so passionate talking about the flaws of the Cedi,

QUESTIONs>>>1) is there any African Currency that is internationally accepted?
-----------------2)Is your currency accepted outside of your country?
-----------------3)Do you trade in your currency on the international market?

My problem is how you all like to make it look like ''CEDI'' only has a problem but all currencies in Africa have NO problem.

We all know some of the causes to our various currencies,
--heavily dependence on imports but less production.(dumping almost everything on us here in Africa)
--The Big countries determining the prices of our exported goods? ETC

So next time when we are discussing anything, lets stay within context and lets not mix apples with oranges.

If I say Cedi is of value than your Country's currency, its either you prove me wrong or shut up.
Don't generalize it and bring in points that even defeats your only analysis.
All the points you gave, does you currency fall short of them?? then WHY are you making it a CEDI problem?.

Mkenya2019:
The present day currencies are paper money. It's fiat money. It's no longer backed by gold reserves. It has no intrinsic value.
So a country can wake up and decide to print the "strongest" currency in the world - say 1000 dollar to 1cedis.
You give them like a few years - and that currency will be 1 dollar to 1000 cedis - if they allow it to operate in free exchange.
They can even go ahead - and forever peg it to a dollar - but that would require defending the currency against inflationary forces using forex reserves.

The cedis outside Ghana is useless. Worthless. What works outside our borders are global currencies - USD (the king), Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, maybe Japanese Yens and now the Yuan.

So for you to import anything - you'll need to buy dollars or any other global currency accepted. For you to fly abroad for education or medical need - you'll need to convert to dollars. For you (gov, individuals, companies) to repay international loans - you buy dollars.

So naturally the cedis will weaken - unless you're China or Saudi or Japans - with trillion dollars of forex reserve - and you can make your currency strong internally by keeping it weak internationally. This makes their stuff very cheap to import - leading to more forex - feeding the loop.

For the rest of us - if you try to defend your currency with your little forex reserves - you won't last long.

Maybe you can survive with your own rules if you live in Central Africa - with very little in international trade and business.

Therefore what is important for economy is A STABLE CURRENCY - this is part of the predictable environment that foster economic growth and sustainable development.

A stable currency is a currency that doesn't swing so much. A currency that stores values. Nobody want to wake up tomorrow like a zimbwean to find they now need 10 times the currency to buy a loaf of bread.

So you need a stable currency that doesn't depreciate or appreciate so fast against global currencies. Otherwise it will lead to inflation - price increases - will drive away investors - will generally lead to poverty.

The weakest africa currencies the last 60-70yrs without doubt is anything named Zimbwabwe, anything named KWACHA and anything named CEDIS.

This kind of negative feedback loop that plagues the CEDIS is hard to get out of - because many Ghanians and foreigners don't trust the cedis - so the economy become dollarized - people prefer to open dollar accounts - or to convert their cedis as quickly as possible to dollars - and try to store value. This leads to dollar strengthening...more dollar demands...more forex reserves are depleted. This weaken the cedis more.

Getting out of that rat hole is very very difficult. You should see Zimbwabweans now. It about getting people to trust PAPER MONEY.

They are just too dumb.
Why didn't they compare their slums with Japan and S.Korea?
Such a loose comparison.
Can they compare their countries in terms of
Social Interventions, Salaries, Developmental index, Good Governance,ETC with Japan and S.Korea too.??

gallivant:

What does Japan and Korea have to with it? Why not compare the poverty in Nigeria with Korea while you are at it.

Well you can put the zero's there since that is your problem.
Some of the old folks here still say the currency in the old way. grin grin

So compare it to your currency as well

Acadavah:

Ghana have removed those zeros but the value of real cedis today would have been(pic1) instead of (pic2)

Well, clown looks like you and circus looks like those who liked your schizo analysis grin.
The discussion is about CEDI and Naira and perhaps the shillings.
The value of these currencies reflect so much on the citizens and anything concerning these countries?.

And as dumb as you have always been, you used Japan and Korea as your basis of argument?
so why didn't you mention Japan and S.Korea when we were talking about slums in your country?

The disability in your thinking made you quote Japan and S.korea in currency strength and living standards to buttress your point,
but you forgot other factors that make living/life in those countries better than ours?
conditions such as Good Salaries, Governments social interventions, Developments, positive attitudes, ETC makes these Countries not fit for any Currency debate here. I never knew nigeria and kenya are on the same level as Japan and S. Korea?

But as for those who liked your juvenile analysis, I'm not surprised because they are too shallow in their thinking let alone analyzing and comprehending issues sensibly.

yaaawns!!! You are so boring undecided

Nigeria and Kenya are still better than your Ghana...

Kenya was Built by Black people and Owned by Black people. The Lands, Hotels, Banks & local Companies in Kenya are all Black Owned. It's hard to believe for a Mentally colonized individual but that's the exact reality. It's a Black Man's Capitalist world thanks to good education & the New Constitution that totally got rid of Colonial system in Kenya.

How do you explain the richest of people in your society not looking like you?....food for thought grin grin grin
