While we keep waiting for our dear country to become better, they're many people adding to the sorrows of young Nigerians. I met this person claiming to be offering writing jobs yesterday on nairaland and I contacted the person. I asked her to pay me N5 per word but she mocked me and said she'll only pay N1.3 per word. For the sake of having a work experience on my CV, I agreed and she gave me a topic to write on. I'll post all what I wrote here. After which the person claiming to be a married woman starting saying I did rubbish, this is not how to write and before I'll say jack Robinson, I was blocked.

Don't know if that person is truly a woman or not but I wrote up to 1148 words articles and I wasn't paid. This happened yesterday. Here's the phone number of the person +234 813 547 9257 and as at yesterday, she claimed to be the wife. So I'll be posting my article here, pls send and tell me what's wrong with my writing

One of the advantages of e-commerce is that it has a decrease startup cost. Starting an E-commerce website on WordPress won’t cost you anything more than N50,000 if you’re doing it yourself and nothing more than N100,000 if you’re paying someone to do it for you. After that, you can start a low-budget advertising plan on Facebook and customers would begin to come in. If you were to buy a shop and start selling items in it, you’ll spend up to millions of naira before you can accomplish that. E-commerce is cheap to start and cheaper than most physical businesses. You also have the option of selling on e-commerce platforms which would cost you nothing other than the capital you used to pay for your goods.
Another advantage of e-commerce is the huge income it generates. Many of us must have heard of platforms like Amazon, eBay, etc and the huge income they generate annually. This is because people are always looking for items to buy and they undergo risks daily to purchase those items. Of course they’ll have to move out of their comfort zone (home), get a taxi or enter their car and head to the market. Also, they may fall prey of scam as they may end up buying a fake product that looks like the original version. Many people are tired of that and that’s where the opportunity is. Once you have an E-commerce website or sell products on an E-commerce website, people from every state and country would come in daily to buy their favorite item and they’ll have a bit of trust on your platform since they find original and best-quality items on your website. Isn’t this good news to your business and your pocket? Of course it is.

How to venture into E-commerce as a Nigerian
Finally, we’re here. Now that you’ve known so much about e-commerce in Nigeria, its time to show you how to venture into E-commerce as a Nigerian:

1. Carry out a survey: This is the most omitted step people fail to take before starting an online business. The first thing you need to do is to carry out a survey around the area or country (In this case Nigeria) where you want your e-commerce business to operate in. Type out a series of questionaires listing things like “Would you shop online instead of going to the market? What kind of products can you not buy online? Can you wait a few days before receiving a product you pay for?” Asking people these things are never optional. You need to know what the people who’ll become your potential customers thinks about e-commerce before you begin. You only need to ask them to give you a honest review on your questions and many of them will.

2. Know what to sell: Of course you need to come up with a list of things you want to sell and how often people purchase those items. You wouldn’t want to start selling something people don’t like or don’t buy often. As a quick cheat sheet, you should only sell products you’re sure will have 5000 sales per month.

3. Create your business: Now that you have all the necessary data about what the people in the area you want to start your business likes, you can go ahead and create your business. Having worked as a web developer in the past, I’ll advise you to use a good web host like Namecheap or HostGator and a web builder like WordPress. Those platforms are the complete package and they have all what you’re looking for. But if you’re not familiar with WordPress or just want something way advance, then you can pay a web developer to code an E-commerce website from scratch for you. This may costs you a little more as coded websites are more expensive and takes more time but it sure would never run into millions.

4. Join an E-commerce platform: This is pretty much the easiest way to start e-commerce in Nigeria. Instead of going through the stress of owning your own e-commerce website, you can actually join an already established e-commerce platform like Jumia, Konga, etc and sell your products there. Yes, those big platforms will actually allow you to post and sell your products on their website but you’ll have to pay an agreed percentage (Depending on the platform) from your monthly profit. If this is okay by you then hurry into it and start making money. Note that the state you’re living in may affect your business as platforms like Jumia requires that you live in Lagos before you can sell on their platform.

That’s all you need to know about how to venture into E-commerce as a Nigerian. You won’t have any regret starting an E-commerce website in Nigeria as people always go time to time to search for their desired product online. As long as you have a tight internet security which is available for cheap and sell products that people love, you’ll definitely succeed in e-commerce.

This was one of the reasons why I hung my boots in doing writing gigs.

I've seen the worst from Nigerian job suppliers and I'm no longer writing for them, ever again! They will want to totally and comprehensively quench you, exhaust you for a mere 1.3naira per word which is even a miracle as it is hard to come by.

They'll correct, edit, criticize every letter and punctuation mark. For how much ogbeni? If you want such a thorough work you should as well increase pay cut? Otherwise, go do it yourself.

Right now, I'm fixated on getting a laptop and finding my way to collect jobs on Upwork and other international freelancing websites. Oyibo clients there are more sane, rational, polite and good payers.

There was nothing ill in the way OP addressed his clients. He even added a titled sir to every post he made as far as I read. That was very formal and respectful of him. You wouldn't even see such exaltation from me if i were your writer.

You clients exalt yourself too extraordinarily, forgetting you are mere mortals not worth more than dangote nor above God. Take a break, go to Upwork and observe how oyibo who pay way higher wage than you guys, discuss civily and express their expectations in a calm and lenient tone, even when there are corrections to make.

I spoke to whom I did not based on this altercation but from my intimate knowledge of him.

Plus you highlighted an interesting scenario I also did. Communication goes along way in customer clientele relations and I can boldly say too many nairaland employers are rude. However rude communication shouldn't be meter with less than tact communication to not entangle issues. In the end, it's better people observe whom they work with. Personally, once I notice character flaw in any employer of any kind. I cut communication and terminate work with such an employer. It's a thing to look out for. But the pseudo God status many employers exude when interacting with them is at best resolved by either walking away or communicating intelligently with then without further making things bad with less than proper communication
