Nominal GDP remains the gold standard. The dollar is very good barometer of the health of the global economy. The Wallstreet wizkids respond quickly to changing the economy before the IPP guys come later in 3yrs for their postmortem. The GDP calculations will come a year later...but the currency changes are almost immediate.

I know you're looking for consolation but South Africa's economy is going to the dogs. This year Egypt will overtake her.

The rand is depreciating for nothing.
