One Taiwo Akinlusi, popularly known as Sir Tee among his football fans meet his untimely death on Saturday, when his head mistakenly touched a naked wire when he was coming down from the staircase of a plaza where he went to play football betting at Ile-Epo bus stop, Ejigbo.

An eyewitness, Mr. Abiodun Adaranijo, who spoke to DAILY POST, explained that while coming down the stairs after betting at the plaza, the unsuspecting deceased had touched a naked wire dangling with his head.

Adaranijo said he (the deceased) would have bent his head to avoid the wire but he did not take note of the clumsy dangling wires.

According to Adaranijo, it was not the first time Akinlusi would pass through the staircase and bypass the wire even on that fateful, due to his hurriedness to go back home after placing stakes, he forgot to bend his head to avoid the wire at the spot and mistakenly touched the wire with his head.

The deceased was said to be a footballer playing for Ejigbo All Stars FC.

His corpse was said to have been deposited in the mortuary at Isolo General Hospital.

The chairman of Ailegun Community Development Association ( CDA), Barr. Bimbo Olawale, who confirmed the incident, said it was unfortunate, saying the residents have been always warned to be cautious of their electrical wiring to avoid such incidents.

“We always warn people to be security conscious. We tell them that security include anything that can affect human life such as electricity in terms of wiring.

“The incident was an unfortunate one and we pray not to experience such again but we must always be conscious. The incident has affected the power supply in the community, the supply to the area has to be switched off but we have contacted Ikeja Electric to come and fix it.”

Owner of the property likewise the shop owner who may be responsible for the wiring ought to be arrested by now for negligence, why should a dangling naked wire be ignored?

Such kind of negligence is common in buildings in Nigeria. People will just connect wires anyhow. As far as the connection works, they are ok. They do not care to tidy up the loose ends. Don't be surprised that the thing has been there naked for weeks

Damn, safety is not considered something to engage in in Nigeria. Most electrical technicians don't believe in using insulating tape on exposed naked wire. This freaking tape costs N100 each, yet exposed cables are left that way! Even some kazeen auto electricians uses polythene bags to tie around exposed naked wire! If the car suddenly goes up in flames the village people are said to be the cause! Safety is often played with because no one pays the cost in the event of an accident.

In 1992, 79-year-old Stella Liebeck spilled a cup of McDonald’s coffee on her lap and suffered third-degree burns on her legs and her groin area. The burns required extensive skin grafts and eight hospital stays and resulted in $18,000 worth of lost income and medical bills.

She sued McDonald’s for the $20,000 but the company came back with an insulting offer of just $800. Liebeck hired an attorney and ended up winning $160,000 in compensatory damages and $480,000 in punitive damages.

The owner of the building should be sued.

What a country!

Naked electric lines dangling freely at headroom in Nigeria.
Same way some years ago, some guys went to viewing center to watch football. An electric line dropped on the roof of the viewing center and killed a good number of them just like that.

I don't think animals in some countries are exposed to stupid, deadly risks people face in this country.
Shame.

We don't value the sacred human life on this side of the planet.
In advanced countries, they follow safety guidelines to the letter, just to make sure nothing scratches your body, but here death dangles freely above people's heads.
Sometimes one wonders if Oyinbos and black people are made by same God.
Shame on black race.

It is not an unfortunate incident. It is negligence. The shop owner should be arrested immediately.
