Wonder why it took this long.

Foreign companies should never be allowed any form of monopoly in Nigeria.

South Africa would equally not allow such!

Very welcome development
What they can't do in SA, they take us for granted and continue making so much money that they take back home.
Never knew Startines was owned by NTA, let's promote our own.
HITV came and we all switched, guess he could manage his success, and went off.
Not only them, mobile networks also, data is becoming so expensive

Ending DStv Monopoly is good but do we have competent investors who can compete with them & offer such service? Let us remember HI TV dat failed

Anti business Nigerian govt.

Dstv subs in Nigeria are the lowest in Africa.

So the only reason, they put the law was because of startimes a govt company.

They want to collect things for free without paying.

Socialist government, that is why this country will be forever poor.

You cannot reach a conclusion without facts.

You obviously are oblivious of the wickedness of dstv.

Stop talking about what you don't know.

Toyin Subair took a loan from GTBank so he could outbid DSTv and pay for Premiership rights which he eventually go but could not sustain because his business model had a lot of openings which allowed revenue to leak but instead of plugging them he was busy forming big boy and spending money on irrelevancies undecided

True!
I still have a useless Hitv decoder in my sitting room with about 10 months subscription which I can't use. That Subair guy went away with so many subscribers money and he is walking free.

one third of their entire subscribers resides in Nigeria. It's not like they're not making Money. This was the same way MTN was exploiting Nigerians till their monopoly was broken

Do not be decieved. The real reason behind this is not because of NIgeria. Perhaps they are asking for higher egunje from MultiChoice or demanding for outrageous bribe that the company cannot afford. There is nothing without alterior motives in Nigeria.

I don't believe this

That was what we thought until Glo changed the game

Multichoice is having a field day because they don't have a strong competitor

If telcos could do, DSTV can

After all, they both offer 24-hour service using electricity

Telecoms are far richer than cable TV.

Once u pay ur monthly subscription on cable TV u won't pay anything again.

The reason why cable TV can't use pay per view is the exact same reason why telecoms companies cancelled monthly unlimited subscription. And changed it to data instead.

If cable people employ telecoms strategy of pay per use PR per view, cable TV would become too expensive. Imagine u buying credit for your cable and once u turn it on it starts counting. Do u know premium channels like bbnaija and football stations credit on them would be higher. Before u know it just like how right now 1gig is almost like 100mb, u would be spending money for 1month sub on 1week cable TV credit.

The govt won't see anything wrong with it cause it still means more money for them while they carry out the wishes of Nigerians

Their content is terrible!
The picture quality is poor!
The local movies are endless repeats.
The foreign movies are endless repeats!
The only current content comes from AIT ,Channels and NTA news.
The only current sports are the German Bundesliga and the Europa league.
And before you counter me I have the dish and pay for their premium content so I know what I am talking about. While I agree DSTV is also rubbish without the premier league and are ripping Nigerians off because I also subscribe to their compact plus bouquet Startimes is certainly not a good alternative at all.

Your analysis is baseless , selfish and also completely out of order without human feelings.

What exactly has multichoice contributed to the development of the industry. Always known for charging arbitrarily. Its a south African business where their xenophobic population bahaves like animals on other people business and human lives.

If Nigerians have reacted to their senseless killings there won't be anything like dstv etc again.

Again, in this period where most country's economy are struggling to make up, they are busy strategizing on price inceament.

The Sam thing they did with MTN when they came until GLO bursted their bubble .

If they can't put people on pay as you go , they can as well get out of our country.

They are not welcomed any longer.
Ani of what use is a cable TV that refuses you to what your local news channels.

It will surprise you to know what profit they have been declaring since they came here.
