Shut your hole.

How the hell did DSTV enjoy a monopoly all these years? So by your logic, before mobile operators were allowed into the country, you would have supported Nitel as the sole communications provider?

As much as I dislike the present administration, this cannot be one of such reasons. How can a govt that is going to end a monopoly and ensure fair pricing be anti-business?

Be consistent, fair and objective with your criticisms. Public discourse perhaps remains the only way we as people can atleast try to inform ourselves objectively. If we fail at having reasonable discussions, what hope do we have as a people.

Anti business Nigerian govt.

Dstv subs in Nigeria are the lowest in Africa.

So the only reason, they put the law was because of startimes a govt company.

They want to collect things for free without paying.

Socialist government, that is why this country will be forever poor.

If not for sport DSTV will be nothing in Nigeria.

There's more to DStv than sports. More people subscribe to watch Big Brother than any sport channel in Nigeria. More people even subscribe to watch The Johnsons and Basketmouth's My Flatmates

Don't mistake viewing centre addicts for genuine DStv subscribers. DStv will run at a loss if the management expects individual subscribers to cough out 15k monthly to watch Supersports.

something is wrong with you... You can see why we are being ripped off because of your thinking. A market as large as Nigeria shouldn't even pay up to what we are paying relative to other country's population and theit subscribers

Telecoms are far richer than cable TV.

Once u pay ur monthly subscription on cable TV u won't pay anything again.

The reason why cable TV can't use pay per view is the exact same reason why telecoms companies cancelled monthly unlimited subscription. And changed it to data instead.

If cable people employ telecoms strategy of pay per use PR per view, cable TV would become too expensive. Imagine u buying credit for your cable and once u turn it on it starts counting. Do u know premium channels like bbnaija and football stations credit on them would be higher. Before u know it just like how right now 1gig is almost like 100mb, u would be spending money for 1month sub on 1week cable TV credit.

The govt won't see anything wrong with it cause it still means more money for them while they carry out the wishes of Nigerians

Admittedly, you raised some valid points.

However, assigning high rates to certain channels when they go on per-pay-view would not change anything. People will have to decide whether to watch them or not.

After all, there are DSTV boutiques that don't show football matches and other key channels, but people still subscribe them because those are the ones they can afford.

I still maintain that Multichoice is ripping Nigerian viewers apart because they have no competitors. Necessity is the mother of invention.

The average Nigerian mind is dumb..

Dstv data is public

South Africa is dstv biggest market

All these nigerian saying govt this and that.

Govt can not reduce or increase price of good and services only the market can.

A govt like nigeria will make businesses run away from the country.

The masses are infact dumb, thinking govt will solve Tv issues for them

Infact if possible, they will want govt to reduce prices of under wares in the market.

In my opinion I don't think our govt need worry themselves on matters such as this. Dangote is there enjoying monopoly what are they doing about it, yes its an indigenous company but we can't rule out the fast that he is enjoying the biggest monopoly in Nigeria.

And if I may ask, what type of market structure do we run in Nigeria? Is it capitalism, socialism or mixed.

So in the case of dstv all govt need do is encourage Nigerians to invest in that industry and give dstv good competition, which in the long run will reduce cost.

Startimes and others are not in the competition at all, the only company that tried was Hitv and they lost it along the line some years ago. And that leads to the question why are Nigerian owned companies are not sustainable? Is it that we as Nigerians lack entrepreneurial skills or we lack Managerial skills? One of the above must be true.

Govt of Nigeria should pls concern themselves with more pressing matters and move our great nation forward.
I stand to be corrected.

Nollywood tv
Africa movies channel (AMC)
Africa movies channel series (AMC series)
Ebony Life
Wap tv
Oga e too many can't mention all.

Lol Wap TV? All the above channels are no match to ROK1, Africa Magic Urban or Showcase.

No Startimes Channel will ever show you a movie produced in 2020. You won't even see a 2019 movie. They don't have that privilege.

Television is not a necessity. You watch what you can afford. That's why DSTv has different packages to suit different economic stratas. The DSTv is even doing well in such a harsh economic climate as in Nigeria where there is epileptic power and multiple taxation. Not to mention bribes they must pay for renewal of their local license and bribes that the national assembly must have been demanding which necessitated this probe in the first place. DsTv should be left alone. You chase them out of the market, we will all be left with Chinese mediocres like Startimes and no reputable multinational will want to enter the market again. Nigerians just hate good things.

Their content is terrible!
The picture quality is poor!
The local movies are endless repeats.
The foreign movies are endless repeats!
The only current content comes from AIT ,Channels and NTA news.
The only current sports are the German Bundesliga and the Europa league.
And before you counter me I have the dish and pay for their premium content so I know what I am talking about. While I agree DSTV is also rubbish without the premier league and are ripping Nigerians off because I also subscribe to their compact plus bouquet Startimes is certainly not a good alternative at all.
Fine if you talk of repeating content they are both on the same level.
I disagree with you on the picture quality, because the StarTimes I have is crystal clear. I bought StarTimes TV and it came with a Sim like phone Sim card to be inserted into the TV and I don't use decoder. And for the sport I said it earlier that is the only difference. Which is what you are try to say now.

Are u aware that Nigerians pay the cheapest rate in the entire Africa.

If u are a business man just by looking at this policy u would know that on the Kong run it would back fire, whether then or now, businesses will look for a way to beat the system. To your surprise u would be doing pay per view, and the sub would keep going up, u won't know when u would be paying same amount u used to pay for all channels just to watch 2channels on pay per view.

If they told u 15years ago when mobile phones were that u would be finishing 1gig in hours u won't beleive but its happening.

Thats how u would sub 2k pay per view on dstv to watch a football match and after the football match u would find out u only have #500 left.

Or u would sub 5k pay per view only to come back and find out your child used half to watch cartoons...

Its not feasible

Pay per view should be Implemented and if they are not ready to abide by our rules they should leave. In south Africa they operate on pay per view, why can't they implement same process here? Abeg am tired of hearing same news every time without any action

South Africa does not do pay per view.

They have a packages system similar to Nigeria, and even at a higher cost.(DSTV compact in SA is N9,100 naira. In Nigeria it is 6,025 NAIRA).

There are fewer DSTV subscribers in Nigeria than South Africa yet we pay LOWER prices than South Africans.
Stop looking at the massive population. Most Nigerians are dirt poor and can not afford DSTV.

DSTV is a GREAT deal for sports and general content. The problem isn’t with DSTV. The problem is with our shitty currency and that most Nigerians are poor.

HITV came and we all switched, guess he could manage his success, and went off.
Not only them, mobile networks also, data is becoming so expensive

Startime is owned by a Chinese company, their headquarter is in china.startime is also in other Africa countries like Kenya, Zambia, Kenya etc.

HiTV was frustrated out of business by DSTV using Nigerians and Nigerian banks.

No, HiTV frustrated itself out.

They made the mistake of thinking that Nigerians got cable for football, so their offerings apart from football were weak.

Also their subscriber base was not strong enough to pay for Premier league and Champions league rights.

HiTV messed themselves up. That's why Startimes (its' competitior) is well known for taking on what they can support.
