NTA has 30% share, while the Chinese has 70% share and run by the chinese. To be honest apart from premier League is DSTV better than StarTimes?
ive been wondering why startimes can't get epl?
cos after dat i don't see a fvcking difference.

Its a lie,
Startimes is not owned the Government.

DStv have been looting our hard earned money by giving us programmes that are not relevant, and also this programmes we do not even subscribe for yet they charge us exhorbitant fees for the programmes.

Nigerians subscription rate is the highest as compared to other countries in Africa, they are looting us dry. They should do PAY PER VIEW and let us see who gains and who doesn't gain.
I was enjoying Football matches at a lower rate on Hitv before it crashed, only for Dstv to increase its subscription fee because they are the only subscribers for it. The Duopoly is a welcomed development.

sexylassie2:
Anti business Nigerian govt.

Dstv subs in Nigeria are the lowest in Africa.

So the only reason, they put the law was because of startimes a govt company.

They want to collect things for free without paying.

Socialist government, that is why this country will be forever poor.

Fine if you talk of repeating content they are both on the same level.
I disagree with you on the picture quality, because the StarTimes I have is crystal clear. I bought StarTimes TV and it came with a Sim like phone Sim card to be inserted into the TV and I don't use decoder. And for the sport I said it earlier that is the only difference. Which is what you are try to say now.

I don't think we need this back and forth.
I subscribe to Dstv and I subscribe to Startimes.
Dstv are rogues and they are ripping Nigerians off. I agree 100% but Startimes are far far worse. The only High definition programme is the German Bundesliga hence the very poor picture quality.
The African movies on Startimes go back to the beginning of Nollywood and are on constant repeat.
I hope the Nigerian government does something about Dstv monopoly but taking Startimes as an alternative is to take this country backwards.
Startimes is an inferior model of Gotv.
Startimes is definitely not the answer to the Dstv imbroglio and I say this with all sincerity.

I guess it’s time for DSTV to bring pay per view. Charge N500 per match.
Those of you that are whining about the cost, you will pay much more for pay per view.

Jokers! DsTv already 10 steps ahead of this dumb government. That's why they won't be renewing exclusive rights for EPL, Champions League etc. So they will just about break even at worst, and at best, they will still out perform all the competition. How many years down this line and NTA upon all the govt money and backing, is still a useless station and network that nobody wants to watch.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I tell you! a useless government that couldn't support hitv , tstv to break monopoly want to use constitution amendment,

no matter what!!! no firm should have monopoly of anything to 200 million people

Stop talking about what you don't know.

Toyin Subair took a loan from GTBank so he could outbid DSTv and pay for Premiership rights which he eventually got but could not sustain because his business model had a lot of openings which allowed revenue to leak but instead of plugging them he was busy forming big boy and spending money on irrelevancies undecided

Mr Subair also never had enough of a subscriber base to pay for the rights.

I watched HiTV. Apart from football, and its Nollywood channels, its offerings were weak. And apart from football, it had poor offerings in the way of sports

Idiots!!!!

The Chinese are waiting and perhaps lobbying the government to do this. Then you are stuck with Startimes and their useless content.

Next thing to enjoy premium content, youd need to stream then and your internet expenses skyrocket. Youd realise you were better off with Dstv!!!

Nigerians pay the cheapest subscription rates for Dstv...simple

How are they ripping you off? Have you bothered to find out how much cable + sports packages cost in any sane environment ?

Dollar dropped from N200 to N380 now and you expect DSTV package costs to still remain the same as it did in 2014. On what basis?

She is

*DStv Compact costs N6,975 in Nigeria, equivalent to $15.50, while the same package costs 140GHS in Ghana, which is equivalent to $25.45.*

*In Kenya, DStv Compact costs KES 2,455, an equivalent of $24.55, while the same service goes for R359 ($21.11) in South Africa.*

*Also, in a financial report released by MultiChoice Group on Wednesday, South Africa has 43 per cent of its subscriber base and generates 66.35 per cent of its revenue, while Nigeria generates 10.89 per cent.*

*It further showed that a profit of $617.69 million was generated in South Africa with a trading margin of 30 per cent, while Nigeria did $329 million, 100 per cent less than what was realised in South Africa.*

Read between the lines.
Nigeria accounts for about 10% revenue while SA accounts for 43%
But in profits, SA profit is just twice that of Nigeria instead of x4. Nigerians are being ripped off. Low subscriber base but very high profit to customer ratio

NIGERIANS ARE BEING RIPPED OFF

I've have Dstv, Gotv and Startimes, but I must confess that Startimes doesn't give value for money like Dstv. That's what the FG should make a priority. That customers always get value for their money.

I have lodged a complaint at StarTimes Facebook and Twitter since Monday and no reply till now.
That is unlike Dstv. Their Customer service and reception is far better than Startimes. I guess it's for a reason

You just be high on your own urine! What about the bastards give us pay as you view? Is that too hard?

Now they are saying it's not possible in Nigeria market. Kind of makes me shiver because many years ago, that's what MTN said about per second billing until Glo forced their hand.

So it's a cultural practise for South African companies to be rippers.

If you're a Nigerian, I will ask for a DNA evidence.

If you're a Zulu, don't let me find you.

They either want to codedly pass a message to Multichoice to come play ball OR They just want to torment ordinary Nigerians with false hope.

Correct!!!

Ha ha ha, watch Europe football? Millions of Nigerians living in Nigeria but wish they are living in Europe through watching Europe football.
Nigeria of the 1980s used to have stronger football clubs than most of Western Europe, until those in political power in Nigeria but against Western civilisation destroyed Nigeria's soccer.

The problem was that from the early 1990's, football in Europe became heavily monetized. (Italy was already leading the way in the 1980's)

In 1992, in the UK, Sky TV bought the rights for English football , beating out Itv and the BBC. As a result, copuled with the establishment of the Premier league, money flowed into football.

The money paid for better stadiums, better facilites, better training, and better players. Satellite tech became much better, allowing matches to be beamed around the world., and allowing viewing rights to be paid for.

This meant that the quality of the game in Europe improved a lot.

Nigeria? The problem is, we never had the equivalent of a Sky TV. Our football has never had access to the funds that the European game has. As a result, no money for facilites, training, even to buy better players self. As a result, all our good players went where the money was.

(As to if our football teams were better than European teams....the jury is out. But suffice to know that until 1994, when our national team had a significant cohort of foreign based players...that's when we qualifed for the World Cup. Before then, we went nowhere. )

Why wont your DSTV agree to Pay-as-Go tariff as is the case in even their home country if indeed they want fairness in business. So Nigerians should be ripped up by every tom, dick and harry just because our leaders don't care abi?

Personally i would rather have a South-African company than a Chinese company despite the animosity between our people. But we have 30% of Startime, so if the quality is not too different, the government could try to push it into the market. But not until we are worth 50% of the shares. If our governments are serious, no foreign company should be allowed into our market unless a Nigerian or group of Nigerians has at least 50% of the shares. But we may need to have locals dealing in the same stuffs, this is seldom the case. Our matter hard. grin

Go check the contents of the packages! Then compare with what is obtainable in Nigeria!

Nigeria is being riped off!

I think Nigeria is the biggest Customer of Dstv . I stand to be corrected!

With the money that has been made in Nigeria, Dstv should do Nigerians better!

I was talking about this few weeks ago with an African friend..

The man has showed you we pay the cheapest rate for the same content , and you are still saying we are being ripped off??

Look, DSTV is not the problem, the problem is our rich men don't want to invest in a similar company that would do the same as DSTV. That's why we have a 'monopoly'

Kenyans and Ghana pay more than we do for the same packages. If anything., DSTV has been too nice to us self. Otherwise, we would have been paying 30000 naira for premium self.
