Anti business Nigerian govt.

Dstv subs in Nigeria are the lowest in Africa.

So the only reason, they put the law was because of startimes a govt company.

They want to collect things for free without paying.

Socialist government, that is why this country will be forever poor.
despite sub is at lower rate in Nigeria, Nigerian don't have opportunity to view due to power outrage issues in Nigeria. Others countries that pays higher sub enjoys pay by view privilege while Nigerians don't enjoy so in the nonshell if DSTV can introduce pay as you view then we can pay higher sub but with current power failure issue in Nigeria we can't subscribe for increment in their sub. Shikena.

Dstv subs in south africa is way cheaper and during de pandemic they got freebies but over here its increment. Robbers called investors.

In my opinion I don't think our govt need worry themselves on matters such as this. Dangote is there enjoying monopoly what are they doing about it, yes its an indigenous company but we can't rule out the fast that he is enjoying the biggest monopoly in Nigeria.

And if I may ask, what type of market structure do we run in Nigeria? Is it capitalism, socialism or mixed.

So in the case of dstv all govt need do is encourage Nigerians to invest in that industry and give dstv good competition, which in the long run will reduce cost.

Startimes and others are not in the competition at all, the only company that tried was Hitv and they lost it along the line some years ago. And that leads to the question why are Nigerian owned companies are not sustainable? Is it that we as Nigerians lack entrepreneurial skills or we lack Managerial skills? One of the above must be true.

Govt of Nigeria should pls concern themselves with more pressing matters and move our great nation forward.
I stand to be corrected.

Exactly.

My Bbrother you are so wrong!

Go check the contents of the packages! Then compare with what is obtainable in Nigeria!

Nigeria is being riped off!

I think Nigeria is the biggest Ccustomer of Dstv . I stand to be corrected!

With the money that has been made in Nigeria, Dstv should do Nigerians better!

I was talking about this few weeks ago with an African friend..

I am a Ttourist! So I know what I am saying!

TSTV that was pirating other people's content?

TSTV that was making promises they could not keep?

TSTV is the reason why TSTV failed. Government support? They had it. Lai Moh'd was even offering them five year tax relief self.

Television is not a necessity. You watch what you can afford. That's why DSTv has different packages to suit different economic stratas. The DSTv is even doing well in such a harsh economic climate as in Nigeria where there is epileptic power and multiple taxation. Not to mention bribes they must pay for renewal of their local license and bribes that the national assembly must have been demanding which necessitated this probe in the first place. DsTv should be left alone. You chase them out of the market, we will all be left with Chinese mediocres like Startimes and no reputable multinational will want to enter the market again. Nigerians just hate good things.

Nigerians want things for free, or want government to control prices.

I'm no fan of Obasanjo, but one thing I'm thankful to him for is that he did not listen to those who were calling for price controls in the GSM sector. If he had listened to them, by now we won't have had home internet , among other things.

Many people don't even realize what is going on here. Buhari's Islamic government has been all out to frustrate and possibly close doing DSTV ever since they started broadcasting Big Brother Naija. That is their real grouse with the company.

Leave dstv alone .they are doing well and we like it like that.
Their content and packaging is good.
Can fg offer something better
they should leave dstv for increasing money for monthly subscription and monthly scramble of your subscription even without use but it is an abomination to increase Electricity Tariff and price per litre of PMS in nigeria ? You need sense upgrading nothing more.

I deal with online financial transaction, you know how much my bank deduct because of Firs and CBN target from me? this DSTV and GOTV increase subscription is still act of socialism?

Nigeria is poor because this govt is not faithful with their financial policies. they got enough money to turn things around but invested it on the wrong direction

just tell them to shoot all Nigerians so that they can be capitalist. nonsense

Lol. Everyone calm down.

In 2003 when Govt set out to first break the monopoly of DStv, it requested that d EPL excludes Nigeria from the rest of Africa and treat Nigeria as a continent or a separate entity from the rest of Africa so as to give the then up and coming Hitv a platform to wrestle feathers with DStv.

This meant that DStv had to pay first for exclusive rights for EPL in Africa then struggle or battle with Hitv for d rights of Nigeria. After Hitv collapsed, DStv had unfiltered access to the Nigeria rights.

Now, with the rising cost of the dollar, Dstv cannot keep up with that model of paying twice for a service and had to increase d price of their bouquet.

Despite this, Govt is still trying to break their back and they (DStv) are beginning to think it's best for them to pull out of the EPL Nigeria market.

The cost of getting this right is about $350million, the question is can the present Nigerian market easily generate this sum?

Me thinks the Govt is trying to promote a company somewhere, more like the hands of Esau but the voice of Jacob.

If you like bring jstv, bntv, kvtv and other TV, you can't compete with dstv, they have the cash, the infrastructures and management.

Nigerians thinks because of our large population it means money.

Nigerians are poor, a small country like Monaco few in number but profitable for businesses.

I prefer a small market with money than a big market like Nigeria with no cash.

Its a lie,
Startimes is not owned the Government.

DStv have been looting our hard earned money by giving us programmes that are not relevant, and also this programmes we do not even subscribe for yet they charge us exhorbitant fees for the programmes.

Nigerians subscription rate is the highest as compared to other countries in Africa, they are looting us dry. They should do PAY PER VIEW and let us see who gains and who doesn't gain.
I was enjoying Football matches at a lower rate on Hitv before it crashed, only for Dstv to increase its subscription fee because they are the only subscribers for it. The Duopoly is a welcomed development.

Personally i would rather have a South-African company than a Chinese company despite the animosity between our people. But we have 30% of Startime, so if the quality is not too different, the government could try to push it into the market. But not until we are worth 50% of the shares. If our governments are serious, no foreign company should be allowed into our market unless a Nigerian or group of Nigerians has at least 50% of the shares. But we may need to have locals dealing in the same stuffs, this is seldom the case. Our matter hard. grin
Bro you are very right, I may not like the way the Chinese run their biz and treat our pple here, but the majorits of SA people hate Nigerians passion. I schooled there, studied sound and film production even did my internship with AM Dstv. I dicided to let go of Dstv after the recent xenophobic attacks on foreigners, though still have a lot of South Africans as friends.
