it's just amazing seeing how quickly a good topic of discussion goes south around this streets. Yeah we know, we have different factions in the house. I mean like, una go die if all of us just discuss on a mutual ground every once in a while? Y'all should grow a pair jor. Take a chill pill. A very nice topic just got dragged into the mud. joshingjosh:On the operational side I will point fingers at our training institutions. Quantity seem to be the goal rather than quality these days. Same for Depot and NDA, imo the last set of quality officers graduated in 2016.The army especially is a mess with low discipline from the rank and file to even senior officers which points at leadership too. This current system cannot inspire any soldier to fight. 7 Likes |

joshingjosh: Most points raised by others are true and play key factors but one important thing we all aren't considering is the fact that a soldier will think more than two times before he throws caution away to attack terrorists recklessly whereas the terrorists are actually looking forward to die in battle, they've been indoctrinated to believe a great reward await them on the other side. No one won't flinch when being attacked by waves of terrorist who care more about killing you or die trying than protecting themselves. That is why the terrorists have high casualty rate on their side in any engagement with the Army. If it were to be a conventional military, the result would be entirely different. Another point is that the army is very slow in evolving to meet up with the dynamics of warfare today, they've been trying to catch up lately (super camps, Hescos, and others) but we are too far behind. So many other little things play important roles in the defeat of the army. Take for example, the Army as a whole has lots of bullets but a specific number is assigned to each soldier/unit daily, if you exhaust, they will definitely give you more but the process of requesting for too much time than you can have in battle, so such a soldier/unit will be conscious of the fact that they do not have unlimited bullets and since you are the one defending and do not know when the enemy will stop attacking, you might be economical with the use of your bullets. On the other side, the enemy attacking knows the duration it can attack for, he came prepared and has planned most of what he is going to do, when he exhaust his ammunition, he simply retreats. |

GeneralFarouq: This will always be an area of never ending contention on this particular discourse. Your background, environment, education and experiential competencies will determine your unit of measurement and therefore expectations. As a consequence what someone consider good, satisfactory and commendable. Will by someone else be considered ineptitude incompetence and comdemnable. In this regard the contention will never end. Because there are too many who start from emotive sentiment not the substantive objective measurement of issues. In a nutshell the Nigerian problem. When a Governor repairs a dilapidated road, we commend and eulogize him that's mediocrity. That's what is at play here, low self esteem and low expectations. 4 Likes |

Whyem15:This is a military that once denied an Air force officer that was captured by boko haram and later beheaded. Is also a military that told Nigerians no part of Nigeria is under the control of Boko Haram. I won't be surprise if they do what you wrote up there. The answer to the question you asked the COIN expert for me is that, Boko Haram do pick up the weapons of their dead colleagues when ever they are withdrawing tactically from an attack. 7 Likes |

Whyem15:Moreso, I'm sure BabaOwen never notices the other arms recovered. If 10 terrorists are killed and the list of arms is like this; 3 Ak47s, 1 AAA gun, 1 RPG, 1GPMG etc, one can deduce it takes 2 guys to man the AAA, 2 others are manning the other equipments listed. Meaning at least 7 guys are active. Using this analogy, equipments usually match more than half the number of dead Terrorists It's very irritating when lazy minds just try to raise dust here. More irritating is how they never seem to own up to their shits when superior reasoning is thrown at them. 10 Likes |

Jelal0007: Going back to your write up, its blatantly obvious you have no idea, knowledge and or understanding about the "GENEVA CONVENTION". If l sound insulting it's not intended but the context in which you use it, leaves me bewildered. How can you say use of RPG's and AA (HMG) contravenes the Geneva convention. Your approach is essentially making excuses for the inexcusable. For instance ; The bases are isolated, and as a consequence are unable to present a defensive and or offensive threat against Boko. By nature forward bases are always in isolated locations closer to areas of contention. That excuse is simply not just not plausible, doesn't make any sense. Equipment, MBT's, APC's, etc are not operational and unserviceable, that's not true. ls that why we see Boko using the same captured equipment. And then using arms captured to fight against us. Thats a whimsical excuse and baseless. To quote you verbatim " they lack coordination or discipline, they take advantage of numbers - - -" Are you suggesting that they Boko outnumber the NA. Those uncoordinated and indisciplined Boko Haram as you claim have held the nation to ransome for a decade and killed thousands. Don't ever underestimate your enemy my advice. Now go back to what you have written, review and appraise and after a cool drink or Coca-Cola have a smile and admit my observations are not anchored on IGNORANCE And if my language in my first post was condescending and insulting, l apologise, I guess l got a bit emotive. 3 Likes |

seankafor: Please read my post again, then read the one before it, I'm not the one antagonizing the military here. I posted that in response to his comment that the military has been showing disproportionate quantity of weapons captured to terrorists killed(he speculated that they are using it for propaganda) and I proposed to him that the military could do such propaganda without raising suspicions like he is having if they really wanted to, like the lie will be more believable if we are told they killed 100 terrorists and 100 weapons were shown as proof, they could easily assemble 100 guns from their amoury to prove that point. My inference was that it is very unlikely that all the statistics we've been seeing are doctored. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Some people on this thread have just chosen to be fool!!sh. I never sound rude to the person I quoted. A swine just mentioned me and used some foul words. When person reply now, one pikin go cry to the mods like a baby he is In the last 15-20 pages, how many times have we seen the Nigeria military capturing AAA guns? How many times have we seen pictures of the army capturing GPMG or RPG? Most of what we do see are just AK47 and bullets, go through the post and confirm yourself. We mostly see AAA when Boko Haram attack a military formation and they are struck by tnk shell, artillery shell or they are been bombed by the NAF. Anytime the military tell us they kill Fulani herdsmen in the MB, same things happen. There are more dead body than weapons. So I stand by my words, when there is a firefight between the insurgents and the military, is possible Boko Haram terrorist do pickup their dead colleagues small arms while retreating. If the military com like, make dem put 100 ak47 beside 7 dead terrorists, nah dem sabi If you think when Boko Haram is attacking with about 10 men, 4 do come with AK47, while the rest come with stones, catapult, axe, dagger and cutlass... Nah u sabi. As for me, Boko Haram have enough fire arms. This was just my own opinion to the guy I quoted. Abeg dey reason am well before you mention me in quotes. I have the rights to my opinion, if you don't like it, and you can't waka pass, you're free to drink sniper. If una like, make una like make una reply or not, I no go even read am not to talk of replying. 4 Likes |
