CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Daniel let out a full breath after wearing the surgical outfits. (surgical facemask, shower cap, surgical gown, and surgical hand gloves).


"Nurse Lina, get me the ANESTHIC" he said. The chubby nurse gave him the anasthetic. He injected it into the patient's body through an intravenous (IV) line in her hand, she fell asleep almost immediately. Daniel made an incision in her abdomen and placed the donated kidney inside, he then connected the arteries and veins from the Kidney, it would make blood flow through the new Kidney.


He attached the kidney's ureter to her bladder to enable her urinate normally (The ureter is the tube that connects the kidney to the bladder). He carefully stitched the cut abdomen, with steri-strips (thin paper like strips).


Daniel removed the face mask and signaled the nurses to pack and prepare the patient for the recovery room. He pulled the gown and when he noticed the nurses stared at him in silence, he smiled at them and said "The surgery was successful, we did it again" the nurses smiled happily and went about their business. Daniel left the theatre after pulling the gloves and the shower cap. He walked down the hallway and the patient's mother ran to him asking questions.


"Calm down, Ma, the surgery was successful" he smiled.


"Thank you Jesus, thank you doctor. Can i see her now?" the old woman who would be in her early fifties asked.


"Not now. She will be wheeled to the recovery room where the Hospital staff will monitor her vital signs until they are sure she is awake and stable, then after that, she will be transferred back to the ward where you can be able to see her" he explained meticulously.


"Okay, like when will she be discharged?"


"Even if she feels great after transplant, of which many people do, she needs to spend a week in the hospital. Her new Kidney may start to clear waste from her body immediatly or it may take time, but don't worry, since the donor is her relative, it will work quicker" he reassured her.


"Thank you very much, doctor, God bless you" she muttered.


"Amen. Before she gets discharged though, I will prescribe some drugs for her and also tell her a lot of things to do for the next six months" he scratched a spot on his face.


"Okay, doctor, thanks" she nodded in affirmative.


"I will leave you now, take care" he squeezed her shoulder slightly before walking away.



He hummed softly as he walked down the hallway towards his office, he smiled at the nurses and continued walking.


"Doctor Daniel" the chubby nurse from the theatre called out to him. He stopped and waited for her to get to him.


"Have you taken the patient to the recovery room?" his face held no expression.


"Yes, am just coming from there" she replied.


"Okay, that's good. What of the woman in ward 5? any improvement yet?"


"Oh yeah, she is really improving, the last time i went to give her her medication, she was asking about you. I told her that doctor Stanley had taken over her case, she was a bit sad though" she chuckled.


"I will go see her one of these days" he smiled, turned around and continued walking.


"People like you, doctor, you are a nice man" she said walking with him.


"Lina, am a doctor and my work is to save lives, so i need to be nice and cheerful to them" he smiled at her briefly.


"Can we do it again?" she asked abruptly.


"Do what, again?" he stopped, staring squarely at her.


"Our imaginary date that never happened" she chuckled.


"I don't really know, but i will get back to you" he muttered walking away, again.


"Okay then, take care" she said and stopped. She watched him till his retreating figure disappeared.


Daniel entered his office and walked straight to the shelf, he took a file from the uppermost top of the shelf, he opened it and copied a number from the file to his phone, he closed the file, dropped it back on the shelf and went to sit on the armrest chair. He dialed the number and the person answered at the first ring.


"What? were you waiting for my call all morning?" he teased.


"Why will i be waiting for your call?" the person at the other end scoffed, even though Daniel didn't see her, he knew she scoffed.


"Well, you picked up almost immediately i dialed your number, like you were waiting for me to call" he chuckled again.


"You wish. how was the surgery?"


"It went well, i just got off the theatre and am so tired, i feel like i have been hit by Dangote's trailer" he yawned.


"Sorry, take some painkillers and you will be fine" she chuckled.


"How was your night? i thought about you all through last night" he grimaced.


"What are you saying? stop saying things out of tiredness"


"Bari, i want to see you again, would you like to go out on a date with me?" he fondled with his tie.


"When?" she asked.


"Tomorrow, it will be a dinner date"


"Okay, a date it is then" she cackled.


"Take care, i will see you tomorrow" he smiled.


"Alright, bye" then the line went dead.
