Two types of twins:
- identical (monozygotic) as in a single zygote splits into two (i.e. one fertilized ovum splits during the course of development).
- fraternal (dizygotic), as they are two separate zygotes (i.e. two different ova, fertilized independently). Technically, these are siblings in the normal sense, just that rather than 9+ months in between, they are just a few hours or days of each other (in terms of when they were conceived).

Conjoined twins happen when the zygote does not split completely, so there remain shared pieces, which eventually become shared organs, limbs, etc. They are genetically identical and always the same sex, since they come from the same zygote (one ovum, one sperm, with all the same chromosomes).

Considering how infrequently conjoining happens, I'm always amazed at the miracle of life. RIP to the pair.
