AdoChel:Yes sure! That new rule is still intact. You don't need to get a hard-copy of the i-20; once schools get the idea that have to state which teaching format they are adopting for fall 2020 on the i-20, they will certainly issue another i-20 to you. It can be done within 2-3 days, and you can use electronic copy to apply for your visa. 3 Likes |

mayDtolu: What if it's a decoy for schools to open during fall semester in-person instead of online. I think Trump wants to reopen at all cost and that's what majority of his fans want. If schools don't reopen in-person int'l students will transfer or leave the country and schools will lose funds invariably. So see this policy/threat in an objective way. 8 Likes |

It doesn’t have to be US of A There are many other options. A country can decide what to do with foreigners at any time. Everyone can always look at things and decide what’s best for them. The same UK that doesn’t allow students stay before now allows them to have work permit after studying. That’s an option and many others. Canada is there. Australia is there. Germany is there. Ireland is there. Anything can change at anytime especially when in a country that is not yours or that you don’t have permanent residency yet. Policies upon Policies Who knows the next thing that will change or the next country that will change?? All the best to everyone as they make their decisions. 1 Like |

Yes to other options. That is what I keep preaching. If and when Trump wins in November, he can and will likely change as many things as possible. Maybe this period is for everyone to reflect and decide what they want. It doesn’t have to be a particular country. One should be open to options. No amount of curse or anything can change things to your favor all the time. UK in the past didn’t want students to stay back after studying, now they want them. Other countries want what they want. Nigeria wants what it wants Policies change from time to time. Don’t be rigid and insist it must be a particular country so that frustration doesn’t set in. This advice is particularly for those yet to come in to the US. By the way, saw that attached image somewhere and feel like putting it here waynee2baba: 3 Likes

@Greenskittles How good was that website you shared for grading Gre-essays? Was it very close to what you actually polled in your real test? |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by sonofakin: 2:31pm On Jul 07, 2020 |
You can keep preaching till eternity. Most people chose a particular country for a reason. Most are potential graduate students and are adults that know the options available to them. They have heard about UK, Australia and Canada, Estonia and Germany, Turkey, North Cryprus, Scandinavian countries and the likes. Some are so desperate that they try five countries at a time. I can apply to a UK university today with my undergraduate transcript, WAEC result and paper reference letters and get an admission offer in 5hours or 3days. Very easy and less tedious. But we still go through the pain of writing GRE, GMAT,TOEFL and the likes to get to a US school. All for a reason. Everyone knows where they came from. Millions of dollars are awarded to Nigerian students in funding every year, you won't get that in any other country. I am sure you are currently enjoying some of their benevolence. My point is that it is not as easy to ignore US as you are presenting it to be Eniolakiite: 26 Likes 1 Share |

Yes I know the full funding is why many come to the US but really if one won’t get returns as expected like staying back to work and all with the way policies are changing, no harm having options. Things are changing. It is because of the pain we pass through to come here, that pain exactly should have rewards and with the way things are changing, it might not be like before. Having options and backup plan is important. Not easy to look away from US. But also important to plan well and have options. Frustration can easily set in. All one’s efforts shouldn’t come to a waste if more policies come up. sonofakin: 2 Likes |

Eniolakiite:It is nice you're advising them to consider these options--and that is chiefly because you're in yourself. If you are still in Nigeria and grappling with the uncertainties, and other frustrating stuffs, you'd have seen things differently. First, the focus on the US is because of its generosity in aids to international students. We have been on this road before, and I think we settled the matter once and for all. None of those countries you mention support international students as US invest in them. None! You mentioned Germany. How many people were getting German study visas before the pandemic set in? I have students who could not get appointment due to "crowd or too many application"--which is a systemic way of saying: "We are not giving more visas, do not apply!" How many Nigerians will Australia give full funding as you got from Austin Peay (maybe with minor deficit, cause I remember you contacted me before you get your visa). Check those countries you listed and see the difference compare to the US. Policies always change, and true, people must not be rigid in their pursuit. What makes you think Germany, Australia, UK, Canada, and others cannot change their own policies, too? Also, the funds required to process things can be heavy and burdensome. The US, in my view and based on experience, is still one of the most affordable countries, with better opportunities--which is why you chose to go there yourself. What I am saying? Time changes, Nations change, politicians come and go, pandemic came and will leave, but your dream must remain solid--or else, you will miss fulfillment later in life, and regret for not shooting at your ideal target. If anybody here wants US, I would like to advise them to keep US as option A , and if they can afford to process other countries, they should put that as option B. There's nothing wrong with the present US in the sense that the world itself is experiencing shakes and era of uncertainties, I also do not see Trump as a threat to dreamers who wish to study and work in the US. He's a politician, and it is in the nature of politicians to be temperamental and fickles. The politicians now making policy that students who study in the UK can now stay and get work permit, can change tomorrow, reversing the policy. You see? That is life for us when our own Homeland has refused to grow, and neither you, myself and other Nigerian youths are ready to demand for change that hinges on making this decisive demand. It is well. I strongly believe the US is going through a transitional phase; things may get better or worse--and we must say that for those countries you mention. Nowhere is certain my dear! But no matter what, one must hold unto his/her dream! I hope your school is not going 100% online in fall, or else, Nigeria is waiting for you 27 Likes |

I pointed out that any country can change its policy at any time. And I really wrote that one should take this time to reflect. I have friends back in Nigeria affected by this change. I have family and friends here affected too. USA tops in scholarships and funding. I always say that on my Twitter and youtube. My advice is reflect and decide. You can still choose US. At the end of the day, each person to his or her own. The last sentence tho Well my school has stated going back on campus months ago. And students affected here, i have some already considering transfer to schools going on campus. Let’s all hope for the best and be positive but pls its good for us all to always reflect from time to time. Things are changing fairheart: 2 Likes |

Thank you so much I keep telling people here to also have Canada PR as an option. I know students who finished from US, got Canada PR and used it to apply to jobs in US. And again they can still work in Canada. Everyone should reflect and decide. People have Canada PR and still work in US. People enter here for phd or masters and are already planning their Canada PR. I’m all about one’s effort not wasting. You can get your fully funded education in US and still get Canada PR. Let’s spread our tentacles pls. Any country can change their policy tomorrow again oh sonofakin: 6 Likes |

HoluwadareY: This one is a dreamer o, walatali. How will this proclamation by ICE help USCIS that is about to furlough a major amount of its workers reopen embassy? This proclamation has just thrown more uncertainty into the whole school, F1 visa and everything related to it. And international students are the only students that need i20, so there will be no i20 priority over any other subset of students 2 Likes |

I wanted to share this.. If you’re a woman particularly planning to come to US for stem or tech related field, I want to advice that you plan to apply to Grace hopper celebration of women in Computing program, the scholarship is by anitab.org It’s done annually. I am part of their scholarship recipients for this year. There are many benefits of that program. I heard about it when I was still in Nigeria so I’m putting it out for others to know about it too. 14 Likes 2 Shares |

sonofakin:don't mind her. I have a full ride undergraduate scholarship which includes a free laptop for this fall 2020 session. I should just leave it and go to Canada. She herself is there on a good scholarship offer. I hope she sees what we've been trying to say since that Trumps policies are not pro-americans but purely anti-immigrant and xenophobic. 4 Likes 1 Share |

kilankoazeez: Everyone that has sense by now would have known that anything this administration does now is a reelection strategy. You want to force schools to reopen at the expense of elderly professors that are likely to die at Covid-19. Go and see the mutiny Georgia Tech professors are brewing against in-person classes How will school react? Most schools like my school will smartly switch to hybrid and shey ICE will be in their office and know what percentage of student are really doing the in-person part of the hybrid. USA right now is a game, the best players will come out top 2 Likes 1 Share |
