niyogeol: Wow Then why all these fuss about Learning Data Science |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by niyogeol(m): 9:25am On Jul 08, 2020 |
Nezzjnr:Guess it's over saturation. Demand and supply issues. People who did Data Science in 2017, 2018 were smiling to the bank as they were deciding which job offer to take. But not so this moment. Not even with Covid in the mix. Not to talk about the under the table black bojuboju things. |

In the practical IT world, having PhD means nothing. A company will rather employ a secondary school dropout that can code than an msc that is speaking English and theory up and down. Tell those friends if they really know what they are doing to get on freelancing sites if they will not start earning in USD. For IT related jobs, results are what determine your market value. niyogeol: 11 Likes |

niyogeol:One will think learning the course will fetch you a multi million contract easily The Competition is just too much |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by niyogeol(m): 10:28am On Jul 08, 2020 |
ojesymsym:I won't disagree with you. But the place of certificates and certifications exist in IT. And freelancing is a low hanging fruit but it sure takes time too to start earning big. I don't know if the Data Science or Cybersecurity curriculum contains coding since I am not in that field. Again, the story I painted is about Ireland. Are you in the IT space? |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by niyogeol(m): 10:38am On Jul 08, 2020 |
Nezzjnr:Multi million far o. It is more of a cliche. There is always a dynamic to courses. At the moment, it is more of software development et al that is selling. No body knows which will come next. Some will advice one to always go get the trending one. I don't share this school of thought though. Because paying tuition as an international student is not beans. And without making any return on the initial investment only to go ahead and invest further is not something I will encourage. Perhaps I am averse to such risks. |

Not a low hanging fruit bros/ sis. Freelancing/ remote jobs are prevalent in the IT space. Yes Data Science/ Analysis write codes especially with python. Go to indeed.com and see remote job opportunities. I think it is better to start with freelancing because it helps you to know what the industry considers important and most importantly to build your portfolio. As for certifications, they have their place after you have shown that you know what you are really, but trust us, we want to cram and pass to get certifications and hold as a badge whereas people, SME, want solutions to their problems. niyogeol: 7 Likes |

OgogoroFreak:In the notice, Fidelity Bank said on its HYSA, the new interest rate for deposits below N100,000 is 3.75 percent versus the previous 4.05 percent, while for N100,000 to N999,999, the new rate is 4.15 percent instead of the old rate of 4.45 percent. In addition, under the HYSA, savings of N1 million to N4.999 million now attracts 4.65 percent in contrast to the prior rate of 4.95 percent, while for N5 million and above attracts 5.15 percent versus the previous 5.45 percent. 2 Likes |

Good day Sir/Ma I'll really like to thank everyone who has contributed in one way or the other on this thread. It doesn't just serve as an investment thread but educational purposes too. I specially commend Sir Emma, Dexterous, AhiOnG for their words of advice and wisdom. There's a whole lot to be learnt from here. I have a question Sir Emma, you said something about looking out for Primary Market Opening and I want to start Money Market Fund, please can you throw more light on them As a Newbie, which of the investment brokers should I sign up? niyogeol: Data science and Cybersecurity have some form of coding in them. These fields especially Cybersecurity are quite large in scope. From IT audit to IT controls to Penetration testing, cryptography, SOC, network security, sys admin, security architect and many more. People don’t know but it’s not all of these branches that require coding. Some of them like SOC, IT compliance and legal etc... 2 Likes 1 Share |

spankyflex: They pay dividend regularly. For Equities generally or funds with offer and bid prices, the best practice which is rational anyway is to buy low and sell high. All stocks listed on the NSE needs a broker before you can buy online yourself or give a mandate for them to buy on your behalf except if it's a public offer in that case you don't really need a stockbroking firm. You can buy through any accredited agent to the offer which can also include banks. 2 Likes 1 Share |

niyogeol: AWS solutions architect Microsoft professional certifications Google cloud architect etc CISA, CISSP, CISM route - can be helpful too. OSCP Some of these are quite good, my advice will be learn the practical aspect of it and do small projects by yourself, create a website with the small projects. Have a networking lab at home (even if it’s just your laptop with many VM’s) learn something as basic as making VPN’s using VPS, learn about cloud, host a site on an old android phone or raspberry pi, learn the 7 networking layers religiously, take advantage of free tier AWS VPs hosting and attend their webinars to get free 25 USD credits get the certificate of attendance... join Cybersecurity learning platforms like Cybrary (Could help career wise too), learn the legal intricacies of IT security and all those ISO stuff... If you immerse yourself, and have one or 2 of this certifications you can have a better chance and even begin to understand more. The problem is there are no entry level Cybersecurity roles so you have to create that experience for yourself as you get some certifications. I like AWS certifications, because you can use the free credits to do some practicals on their VPS... So many other stuffs I cannot remember for now. 11 Likes 4 Shares |

Really? Are you sure it's not just theoretical competence they have? Forward-thinking minds with data analysis and cybersecurity skills are a hot cake, globally. Interestingly, they can start their careers with foreign coys right from the comfort of their rooms as remote workers. Skillfulness and results trump paper qualifications. niyogeol: 3 Likes 1 Share |
