I usually think about my family and friends. Then I think about all the craziness in Lagos, from danfo, arguing with conductor, climbing pole to fix light, the road side markets, funny incidents that I experienced, and I laugh. Sometimes I watch Nigerian news on my phone, just to hear the accent and see Lagos.

Then I think about my life before I came to Germany, my childhood, how I suffered, how I got my visa. My best memory is usually about what happened after I got my visa. How I felt, the day I was traveling at the airport, the first day I landed in Germany, my first months in Germany, then I go back to my life in Nigeria.

I tell you, it’s a great feeling. I just sit alone and laugh. Then I take a deep breath and say to myself “I’m here now, the storm is over, I can travel anywhere I want”.
Nigeria feels like a shit hole when you’re living there, but when you live abroad, you’ll miss Nigeria. You don’t wish to go back there but you’ll just miss the simplicity of life in Nigeria. The sense of humor and friendliness.

One story I never forget, is the day I got my admission letter after so many rejections. Then the day I was leaving Nigeria, how my family reacted, my experience at the airport. All the images flash before my eyes like a movie.

That's sad though. No matter how much I dislike Nigeria, I wouldn't want to renounce my citizenship.

It will be like I have completely destroyed anything connecting me to Nigeria. Basically I'll be a foreigner in my own fatherland.

Imagine needing a visa to enter Nigeria, I won't like that at all.

I'm not sure which section of the constitution it is mentioned but to renounce Nigerian citizenship will require the assent of the president. So effectively, you and your generations are Nigerians for life.

Another great memory is usually my NYSC days and job hunting. Walking around Ikeja with my CV, sweating under hot sun and wiping my face with dirty handkerchief, my face was so dark from the sun, drinking pure water on the road, then stopping at Ikeja under bridge to eat Eggroll and drink coke.
Then I compare my pictures back then to now. And I’m like “damn, na me be dis?” My skin has really changed.

Berlin in pictures. This is Brandenburger Tor. A very famous tourist location in Berlin. You’d normally find lots of tourists here everyday from morning to night. It is empty now because of Corona. It is also where most countries have their embassies.

The OP on the vietnamese thread said one can earn upto a thousand dollars monthly from the teaching job and cost of rent and living is relatively cheap so as an aboki village boy that i am I’m sure i can save $500
Danielhouston:

The money you’ve saved already, will finish in Vietnam before you get a teaching job. Even if you get a teaching job in Vietnam, you’ll pay rent and other bills and may not be able to save enough money for Germany. And even if you can save, it may take you years to do that.

When you leave Africa, you’ll realize that life abroad is not the same. Bills must be paid and so are taxes. Coupled with the struggle of surviving alone without assistance and how much your salary is. This is what I mean when I say low budget countries can trap people down. But I hope it works out for you. Good luck.

Everything is time. Some people have seen things in life though. It's a great thing things have improved greatly and you're in a better place. You've got a chance to work you way up there and THINK STRAIGHT. Na you fit go somewhere with headphones to relax. grin

From my experience, they are usually smarter than the Nigerian men. They are also very good at keeping secrets, that you’ll never know what’s going on in their life. You won’t even know when they get their papers.
You’ll just hear that the Nigerian lady you studied with, has moved to Cologne and later you hear she’s married with 2 kids.

There are lots of them dating white men. Not married, but dating. White men tend to love them, but I think it’s a fetish thing. The ones focused on marriage, tend to marry older white men in their late 30s and 40s. Some in their 50s. And the white men take care of them, financially. Especially those German men in Munich and Nürnberg with so much money.
Some Nigerian ladies here are only interested in Nigerian men.

The young white guys are not looking for marriage or to have kids any time soon. But they like to have sex with black women. You’ll hear them say stupid things like “I’ve never been with a black woman before, I want to try”. As if Black women are products you can “try” to see if you like or not. They objectify black women a lot.

If you’re interested in German men, you should know that they are uncircumcised. So don’t be shocked when he gets naked and the head of his d*ck looks like a shower cap. They don’t cut their foreskin. It’s a common thing with EU men.

So yeah, they date and marry white men and some of them would only be with a Nigerian man. If you’re a single Nigerian lady coming here, be open minded to other races and cultures. They don’t have to be German. There are men from all over the world, in Germany.

Even if your husband is from another EU country, you will still get a residence permit and be able to live and work in Germany.

You earn $1000 a month. How much is rent? Health insurance? Internet? Food? Transportation? Telephone bill? Leisure? What if you have to pay fine? Remember you still have to pay tax. All from the $1000. And you want to save money for German blocked acct that is €10,000. Ok ooo

E-scooters were legally approved as a means of transportation in Germany last year. There are rules regarding speed limits, safety, and don’t ride them on the pavement or places with pedestrians.

It has become a trend in Berlin and some people just want to ride a scooter because they can. They’re not going anywhere, they just want to have fun. You can buy your own scooter, though it’s expensive. People have accidents on that thing and it annoys me. Infact, it annoys everybody.
If you want to offend people in Berlin, ride a scooter and park it anywhere.

Those scooters you see on the streets are customized from certain companies. You cannot steal them. They have trackers and even if you steal them, you cannot operate them without an App. They only work via app, which you can use to unlock them.

There are also cars and bicycles like this in Germany. An example is Car2go. These are cars you see on the street. You can only unlock them from the app, pay, and drive them. The car opens after you’ve activated them online. When you get to your destination, you can park them anywhere. Someone else can drive them from there. Everything you need is in the car. This is great for people who want to drive but don’t have a car.
You can’t steal them either.

Please Daniel, did you get work experience in Nigeria before travelling to Germany? Does having work experience in Nigeria give special leverage when searching for jobs in Germany?

Thank you. I hope people get inspired and know that they can achieve anything they want, no matter who you are and what you have right now. It is possible.

I was bullied all my life by family and friends, dem beat me tire, they even called me a snail because I was so slow. But my behavior was a result of the bullying and abuse. My parents said I would never amount to nothing. I’ve seen hunger, I’ve cried. There were days I would wake up and wish I had died in my sleep.

It took me 2 years of planning to leave Nigeria. I saved every naira, got information, and never gave up. I got rejected by 27 schools and never stopped trying. I didn’t even know anybody in Europe but I knew I would survive.

I was 26yrs when I left Naija. Now I’m 32+ and I’m a man of my own. I pay my bills, travel the world and can do anything I want. All the people that bullied me, now they look up to me. Nothing happens in my family unless I give my opinion. That “snail” has become a leader, by God’s grace. So I hope people reading this can know that they can do it. Whether abroad or in Nigeria.

Instead of spending time on Linda Ikeji blog arguing and cursing Bobrisky, use that data and time to research how you can achieve things. I will do my best to share all the information I can with you guys. Thank you and stay positive.

Really inspiring. Thank you for this...

There is this religious African girl in my building and she’s so annoying. I don’t know where she’s from because I’ve never spoken to her but I’m guessing she’s from Nigeria or Kenya. She disturbs the entire neighborhood with her loud prayers and she prays 4 times a day.

I’m all for practicing your religion and I pray too, but this girl is something else. You know how they pray in Mountain of Fire? That’s exactly how she prays and she’s very loud. You can hear her from your kitchen. When she starts praying, anything you’re doing will be disturbed.
She starts by playing guitar and singing loudly for 20 minutes, then she starts shouting “Jesus, Jesus!!” and the prayer has not even started yet.

What particularly annoys me is that she prays when everyone is sleeping. I have to be at work at 8:30 and she starts praying at 5:00 am. She disrupts my sleep, even with my windows closed. My flat is directly under hers, so I suffer it more than others. I need my 8 hours of sleep.
The neighbors have tried to talk to her but she does not listen to anybody. They have made legal complaints to the Landlord and I’m sure she got some letters.

My neighbors are mostly young people and they don’t like to call the police on any one. But I know one day, they’ll get enough of her and call the police or take her to court. She thinks Jesus will save her from legal troubles, she will soon learn.
don't even make the mistake of including kenya in your guessing.

Its 99% sure, shes a Nigerian. I also have some couple of neighbours(girls) like her in my crib.

I call those type of people FANATICS!

Keep up the good work bro.

Technically, you can't denounce your Nigerian citizenship except the president grants it I guess.
So Nigerians are among the people allowed to have dual citizenship here.
I stand to be corrected tho.
