Now that the party is down.

This wasn't a bad performance except the result.
For first in a long while, we were able to pass the ball around for long periods in the game. A long period that ended with a glorious chance Auba should have converted for a 2-1 lead.
Kolasinac also practically gifted them the equalizer.

Arteta has got this club playing the Arsenal way again, it's not yet obvious, because he has awful personel to work with currently.

Our entire backline is not EPL standard and we need total clear out come season end. Kolasinac is not a footballer and for a bulky guy, is too injury prone and can't be relied on.
Mustafi is always a second away from a blunder, Martinez (God bless his soul) saved his blushes today many times against Kane.
Luiz is a clown and obviously cannot coordinate a defense. How exactly can Luis be there and Tierney was the one picking up Toby to mark. A better defensive commander would notice the disparity in size right away and assign taller player to mark Alderwereld.

Holding and Chambers are average and worst still, too injury prone. To be serious in this division, you need durable and less injury prone players who can at least play up to 34 league games together. The last time we came close to winning the league, Mertesacker and Koscielny were an ever presence in our backline. You need that stability. Unfortunately, our current backline is full of substandard and worst still injury prone players.
A total clear out is in order. Kolasinac, Mustafi, Chambers,Sokratis and Holding have to go.

Arsenal should forget talks of buying a DM or an attacking midfielder, we should go all out to buy a statement Defender, a coordinator to marshall that defense, Upamecano comes to mind, we should put all our budget into getting him or his type.
Get Marlang Sarr on free from Nice to play that left CB, let him rotate with Mari.

Next season CB options should be like this :

Saliba, Marlang Sarr, Mari, Luiz, Upamecano.

Work on team cohesion next season.

Playing without Europa league distraction next season might yet be a blessing in disguise. Finishing strongly this season could have as well pappered over the cracks and meant that many of the current dead weights are retained in the name of false dawn.

While it's normal to feel bad about how this season turned out, we should not lose focus of the bigger picture.
In Martinez and Leno we have two dependable keepers, we just need to get them good defense in front of them.
Saka came into limelight this season and Ceballos totally bossed that midfield against le celso and Co. Lacazette scored a beauty, hopefully we keep him and Auba for next season.
Pepe already have his first season done with, we hope he understands this league better now and that the good player we know that is in there can come to fore next season. If you want to know how difficult adapting to a new league and team is, look at Hazard in Madrid and Griezmann in Atletico. This is life football and not Football manager.
The skeleton is there, Arteta will just have to work on it from down (defense) up (Attack).
There will be no miracles or quick results here, it's going to be a painful and slow process, more so with Kroenke not being one to help out financially.

Gbam!!!
Guys are over flogging the result Despite the anticlimax in result. Game play and stats shows we’ve significantly improved from Emery. Gone are the days we were consistently bombarded by shots and getting bossed in midfield. FFS despite MOU’s bus we still had 5 shots on target.
It’s Spurs away and guys making it seem we are expected to win every game is over optimism. Even City with all its form lost to Southampton, Chelsea got trashed by fxking Sheffield.

Talk like this is one of the reason arsenal is a useless club, fans are quick to accept faith by looking for one stupid positive.
Same result and set of players since wengay days, that match was 200% winnable but some set of useless souls at the back did giveaway.
Why is luiz is playing or offered an extension?
I'm sure the stupid board will sleep on ceballos matter and loose him to another club
THE FACT IS THIS CLUB RECYCLE MEDIOCRITY OVER AND OVER AGAIN EVERY SEASON.
Some spark of brilliance and then fade away, how can I tell my unborn kids xhaka, luiz, mustafi and kolasinac are fvcking professional with big wages

dude coming from where we were and the Covid break drowning some of the momentum we had in January I’ll take the performance till the transfer window. Even Pep couldn’t win the league in his first season despite having a summer transfer window.
The play has improved to what we had and that’s what I’m currently concerned with, it shows Arteta is doing something right. with a good transfer window and consistency there seem to be light at the end of the tunnel and results will come.

It is too late to apologize............................................It's too late.
Wenger bred a whole generation of Assanal fans that were always happy with top 4 and nothing else. He and the owners used the new stadium to do boju boju for their policy of endorsement of mediocrity.

That is why when Gallas came to the club he sat down crying in the middle of the pitch, tearing his jersey and "pint", pulling out the grass from the roots when he saw how soft and uncaring the players in the club were.
Guess what? The fans turned against him 100% instead of asking questions.

A whole generation of Assanal fans have been brought up celebrating mediocrity and finding silver linings in every defeat. Any Assanal fan who is less than 25 yrs now can't understand the spirit of people like Adams, Keown, Parlour, Vieira, Gilberto Silva.

No one is talking about winning league but having the same useless players is fvcking waste of time.
They were very comfortable yesterday until David luiz and kola happened.
Why?
Just a simple backward pass these professionals can't

That’s the point I was driving at and not that I’m comfortable with the result.
Game play has improved though we still have areas to work on, particularly concentration in defence. I can live with that knowing that it is fixable and Arteta has TW to fix that. At least I see what he’s trying to do.

The goals we conceded no pain you reach me cos they were just too easy and it was totally down on individual error and not the tactics or team play.

Since the restart ..Spuds have managed only 11 shots on target in 5 gamesm.Today they amassed 9shots on goal…With (wait for it)37% possession..

They’ve only scored 2 goals against West ham..They registered no shot on target against BOURNEMOUTH..But today they not only managed to get 9 shots on target…thay score 2 goals against us…

God bless you, This is where everything stems from, but we're not allowed to touch Wenger but Ebening.

What you pointed is the reason why the Sanchez,Oxlade and others left.

You're not allowed to be crazy at Arsenal, Everybody cool fine London sexy boy.not aggression, rigidity and zero fire in the belly. I just wish my boi ends up at somewhere like Atlectico, where he can grow/learn better and turn his madness to something useful like them Diego Costa.

We're gradually sliding down and some are still seeing useless positives.
Were there not better positives from Emery's first year? But what became the end of the team, Arterta started on that note and where's he now?
Which manager will manage trash for long? It will surely be ending in hoping/excuses and tears.

Still can't surpass the 8th Emery left us with, is Arteta to be blamed? For me,NO. The ogas at the top should clear away and not extending some yeye contract and invest big time.

Few weeks ago, it was the midfield with Issues, now everybody is pointing to defence they felt is getting better, whilst I maintain the attack is still blunt and midtable standard.

Rubbish. Awon Werey oshi

Because Spurs have been defensive and faced defensive teams.
Secondly they had 7 shots on goal not 9 and they had more corners.

Lastly my assertion is independent of Spurs game performance but how we performed relatively to EMERY’s era we’ve improved take it or leave it. You are talking 7 shots on target against Spurs away while we had 5 despite parking the bus. when I can show u stats where we faced almost 20 shots and could hardly respond with any under Emery. It gets even clearer when u consider he inherited same squad.

We are not there yet, but if Arteta keeps getting things right and gets his TWs right things are bound to change significantly. You guys should read my posts to understand and not to reply.

Xhaka who is supposed to be the leader, oldest serving and everything matured professional in Arsenal's midfield, Sadly lacks all the qualities listed above.

Since his arrival in 2016, we've failed to make top4, he plays the most and one of the major reason our build up is slow, this is who the Academy and young players look up to.

I knew Emery will fail when he had him in plans and Arterta will also the moment he blocked his transfer.

Good luck with your midfield general.

i agree with the list, though unless we are getting two DMs one in the mould of Coq and another in the mould of Cazorla.
If we are getting 1 DM it should be in the mould of Coq to partner Ceb. Xhaka should stay as a squad player.

Torreira should stay

Hopefully it dawns on those who haven’t realized that Pepe was never a £72m kind of player.

Infact, the PAL forward line is overhyped for the way they play. Auba’s not an effective winger, Laca’s inconsistent and Pepe isn’t great. Saka imo. I also feel our midfield will never reach its full potential with Xhaka in it. His attack and defense are nothing special and his strength is for games where there is space to operate.

I would also not sign Ceballos because even though he’s good we need a more adventurous CM to partner the DM imo. AMN to me could’ve been a very good CM if only we spent time to develop him. He would’ve provided some physicality and darting runs from midfield.

That is why we need to sign Partey. Our defense was poor as usual. Harry Kane and Son just cruised through anytime they wanted to. I’m still longing to see the back of most of our CB’s. Poor showing today and Spurs looked there for the taking.

Copied#.

It’s Spurs away and guys making it seem we are expected to win every game is over optimism. Even City with all its form lost to Southampton, Chelsea got trashed by fxking Sheffield.
In as much I understand your points, but mostly your point reeks of mediocrity(sorry to say). Man u beat man city home and away, but we shouldn't expect to beat Tottenham at their home?. I remember the years whereby we beat Tottenham home, away and abroad, but now, we should be thinking otherwise. Our game play have improved, no doubt, but ystdy, Tottenham were there for the taking, I don't see why we should be happy losing wen we can win. What's the difference between yesterday's game and Wenger's latter years whereby we play so good and still lose, yet console ourselves about how good we played. Also, we shouldn't be comparing our results with Chelsea, man city or any other team. That Southampton was strong last week doesn't mean they're not there for the taking this week.

I was one of the optimists going into this game iamoyindamola is a witness to that. Saying I am happy with the result and content with mediocrity is a slander on my reputation on here. I am grossly disappointed with the result.

But If you read between the lines of my post you’ll find I’m looking at the team from the perspective of manager influence. If you ask me, Again I’ll say Arteta has improved the team considering what he inherited. Let him get a TW and Preseason cos there’s absolutely nothing much he can do about Kola, Mustafi and Luiz playing right now unless you want him to enter pitch.

A topic on who should we let go out of our current midfielders

Dani ceballos stay

Xhaka stay

Willock stay

Guendozi leave

Ozil leave

Torreira. leave

AMN. leave

A reply from a fan culled below...

I agree with all the above except Xhaka. To be effective in the modern game a good defensive midfielder MUST have the following skills –
ability to turn quickly with the ball on both sides
creativity, vision and leadership
good in the air
athletic ability and speed
ability to shield the back four and tackle
ability to dictate pace of play
Ever since the departure of Alex Song and Francis Coquelin this position has been vacant.
Why should torreira leave when he far better than xhaka
This is what we saying, pampering mediocre players

How everyone thinks Xhaka is a DM baffles me. He plays there doesn't mean he is. It's like saying Auba is a winger.
