tonididdy: To be honest, your attack was very unnecessary.. You can express your "displeasure" without the aggression... A brief dash to AliExpress would have shown you that the shipping cost of such models is the main albatross.. The lowest shipping cost I saw was beyond 22k using the regular AliExpress standard shipping .over 90% of the offering attracts hefty shipping cost.. You could see an offer of 12K with about 74-150K shipping cost... Perhaps, as a shipper like you insinuated, this is a window for you to use your expertise and ship in these "smart" models at competitive rates to break the "costly" trend. 4 Likes |

Please who can help with the right connection of this SPD... I will be connecting the SPD between the PANELS and CHARGER CONTROLLER. The problem I am having... is were will the positive and the negative wires of the panels be in the spd, and, where to connect the earth cable. Please check picture below for easy understanding.. Kindly send a rough sketch or detailed explanation (If you can) on how to connect it... Thanks everyone...

terrymason: The Uc of this SPD is 48V. Except if you're using a pwm cc with no series connection of panels, you may exceed the rating. It is not designed to carry over voltage for noticeable duration. Uc of SPD to use should not be lower than Voc max of your cc. |

mank1234:What's the way to connect from the panel to the SPD... Positive and Negative wire. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mank1234(m): 7:35pm On Jul 13, 2020 |
terrymason: Positive of panel to + of SPD and then to cc. Negative of panel to - of SPD and then to cc. PE to earth. |

ojesymsym: NOT sure its worth the stress, the main challenge is getting a suitablly sized dc compressor, and control system, the project is akin to attempting to convert a manual transmission car to automatic , its possible, but at what cost/labour? 2ndly, the difference in consumption btw dc and ac freezer isnt usually much.. 50w or 60w for 200ltr size |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ceaser: 8:17pm On Jul 13, 2020 |
earthrealm: I don't know of any 200L freezer that consumes 50w or 60w. Maybe 70 litres or 58 litres freezer sha. I don't even think DC freezer is that low, else they won't recommend 2 units of 250 watts panel and 2 units of 150 ah battery for adequate backup. The least by 200L will be 100 watts. Meanwhile, the vendor I expected the inverter freezer from disappointed on delivery after two weeks of deposit, so I demanded my refund and got it from another who had in stock, albeit at a higher price - 5k550 more. Nameplate rating is 115 watts. Just begun the monitoring about 3 hours ago. Not yet impressed cos the wattmeter recorded 165 watts for over 2 hours now from an initial 107 watts 5 minutes after start-up. When it starts, it begins at around 170 watts and befinns to drop over the next one minute or so to around and fluctuates between 107 watts~120 watts. Put in some water. After about one hour it's at 158 watts. Now approaching 3 hrs it read 165 watts. Hmmmm. So like I said, I'm not impressed yet. I hope it does not disappoint o, otherwise na to begin look for buyer. 1 Like |

mank1234:See the picture attached... no negative or positive terminal... "Out and In" terminal have continuity when tested with multi meter... so as PE and PE terminal... that's what confusing me. cc: ceaser earthrealm mctfopt.

terrymason: The out and in would then be the positive and negative...not sure why they labels it that way. You need to figure out which of the label is positive and which is negative. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by terrymason(m): 9:13pm On Jul 13, 2020 |
ojeysky:When I use my multi meter to test the continuity... it was reading that both out and in are connected together. |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by mank1234(m): 10:07pm On Jul 13, 2020 |
terrymason: Let's wait for guru to give proper explanation like ojeysky said. But if I am to attempt base on your continuity test, I'll say it is used in a grounded DC system to ensure that when there's lightning the voltage at the point of the grounded conducted does not go beyond 48V. In order words the surge energy on the grounded conductor is shorted to earth. DC grounding can be positive grounding or negative grounding - positive or negative is connected to ground. This is usually done only at one place - either at the battery or at the solar panel or at the CC or inverter and not at multiple locations. Most DC installations in Nigeria is ungrounded and hence the device is useless in such places. Edit - Niyi pls come and bail us out. |

ceaser: Lolz.... I doubt if he was saying that a 200L freezer consumes 50W or 60W. I believe he was saying that the power consumption difference between an AC & DC 200L freezer is around 50W/60W. In other words, if a 200L AC freezer consumes, say 200W, then a 200L DC freezer probably consumes 150W 1 Like |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by earthrealm(m): 12:08am On Jul 14, 2020 |
mcTrinity: yup, exactly, i recall the lowest someone reported here for a dc freezer is about 70w, either 185ltr or 200 ltr, and i know the normal ac freezer of that size consumes about 110w to 135w @terrymason, this your spd is a bit strange, looks like el cheapo chinese . guess no manual came with it?. maybe use the product name and google. most spds are connected in parallel, ie both neg and pos cable are terminated on it....then a PE at the other end. me i no understand this IN and OUT. 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by essegis(m): 4:07pm On Jul 14, 2020 |
terrymason: If I'm to answer this. SPD is not connected the way you are thinking it should. I have queried why that is so severally but have been made to see reason its in its operation. You will require dedicated bussbars for this your SPD. While the "In" is connected to the positive bussbar with the other panels positives the "Out" is connected to the negative buss. Definitely you choose one or loop both PE for your ground. Still confused? Look at the attached pix for the normal wiring of a combiner box. Hope this helps.
