Presidency Should Be Ceded To The South-east To Heal Civil War Wound- Olarewanju by Showbby28: 7:39am On Jul 14, 2020
A frontline politician and Nigerian Professor of Sociology, Yemi Olarewanju has stated that to bring closure to the Nigerian civil war, the next president of Nigeria should come from the South-Eastern part of the country

Speaking with newsmen on Sunday night in Lagos, Professor Olarewanju, stated that “Fifty years after the civil war; fifty years after the Igbos rightly or wrongly believed they have been marginalised and persecuted in Nigeria, it is morally incumbent on the rest of Nigeria to make concessions to them for the land to be healed and the negative perception addressed”

He however emphasised that other geo-political zones in the country will be needing a detribalized Nigerian of Igbo-extraction to occupy that position and has identified Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as a man that meets that requirement.

According to Professor Olarewanju, “The current Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Dr Orji-Uzor Kalu has acceptance in all the geo-political zones of country and is widely perceived as a bridge between Northern and Southern Nigeria. He is an astute Business man with interests in shipping, aviation, oil and gas, publishing and the banking industry. His track record is there for all to see”.

“He is quite different from most of the people parading themselves around as political leaders in the country. Most of our leaders became rich by dipping their hands into Government coffers unlike this man that was already rich before joining politics”

He further stated that, “You cannot talk about Nigeria’s return to democracy without mentioning the name Orji-Uzor Kalu since you cannot talk about our democracy without the formation of the PDP”

“I attended several meetings in his residence in Lagos during the formation of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in 1998. I saw a man who was committed to the unity of Nigeria. He did not just commit his time and effort but his resources to the formation of PDP and the emergence of a South-Westerner as President”.

“The N5 million for the registration of the party was provided by him. He gave Gen Olusegun Obasanjo N100 million naira to fund his presidential campaign and also made the first N500 million donation to the party”

“He was funding most of the activities of the PDP at the formation stage. Everybody that came for meetings in his residence in Ikoyi collected transport money from him at every gathering. It was only Atiku Abubakar and Yomi Edu that never took money from him”

Asked if the Senator’s recent conviction would not count against him, he responded that his recent acquittal by the Supreme court actually counts in his favour.

He reminded Nigerians of various leaders who went to prison in the past and later became Presidents. He mentioned former President Olusegun Obasanjo and incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari as some of the people that went to prison in the past.

In his words “Even Joseph went from Prison to the Palace in the Bible. I bet a lot of people in and outside the corridors of power in Egypt at that time believed the false accusation levelled against him by Potiphar’s wife before his conviction”

“Orji Uzor Kalu was already a billionaire before he became Governor of Abia state so I wonder how they say he stole their money”

“Joining politics was a set-back for his business. He lost his airline, banking license etc to politics. In fact, he would have been richer if he did not join the murky waters of Nigerian politics”

“Nigeria has done great disservice to this man. To think that they jailed him for some political reasons based on some funny calculation for 2023 is the greatest injustice that could be done to any man”.

“But I would like to thank the 7 justices of the Supreme court of Nigeria that saw the injustice meted to him by the High Court and found the courage to nullify his conviction”

“Governance is about managing human resources as well as the economy so we need people that are business oriented to come and run the affairs of this great nation”

“We need someone that has a track record of growing businesses from scratch and not people who became businessmen by stealing money from the government”

“I think Nigerians should ask this man to come and run the affairs of the country. The people from the Eastern part of the country should compel him to throw his hat into the ring and come and rescue this great nation.”

Concluding, the Professor of Sociology stated that “In 1998, Nigerians agreed that with the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, there was a need to heal the wound in the land by ceding Presidency to the South-West. We should as a nation do the same for the South East. They have not tasted power since the return to democracy in 1999. It would be morally wrong for any other zone to contest against them in 2023”

Crap!!!!!

If you want to talk about dirty.
Orji uzor Kalu is the packs leader....

Arthur Eze said it well yesterday, when he said Igbos lack cooperation....

No foreign tribe makes money in igbo land.
Even an Anambra indigène is considered second class in Imo state, talk less of people from other non-igbo extraction.

Igbos need to get it right amongst themselves first, before they can start the healing process then contest and win the presidency.

Untill then, no one is going to hand over presidency to igbo tribe and even if its handed over, that won't heal the civil-war wounds.

The campaign for Orji Uzor Kalu has begun. They want to prop him up against Tinubu, divide the APC South and take the party's ticket. For PDP, it's either Atiku or Tambuwal, so the game plan is that the presidency is going to the North again.

Honestly, I'm apathetic to Igbo presidency for some reasons.
1. Any Southern president will always end up like Jonathan. The Northerners will use covert and overt means to put him on a leash.

2. An Igbo president will still want to do more for the North just to be in their good books, same way GEJ did but they will still never be satisfied and will boot him out at the slightest excuse.

3. You want to make Orji Uzor president but you had to rubbish him first, humiliate him, jail him and still turn around to release and celebrate him. All in an effort to ensure he sees them as his saving grace.

4. If these guys truly want to ensure an Igbo president emerges holistically, don't we have more capable hands that can offer excellent governance? But no, they want someone who has baggages they can always use to blackmail him.

5. When they claim they want a detribalised Igbo as president what they mean in essence is that they need an Igbo man that would be loyal to the cabal. Someone who will not upset the rotten system.

Igbo president without full restructuring will never heal wounds.

Power is not given. Power is taken. Any igbo sitting on his ass and expecting Nigerians to drop the presidency into his lap will wait forever. Buhari you all called a dullard worked and schemed his way to be the president. I expect the igbos who claimed to be exposed, experienced and enlightened to come up with a better strategy in order to get the rest of the country to their side instead of cashing in on the civil war. I lost a grandfather in that war too.

Someone should drum it into the thick skulls of pdp and her supporters that that "Igbo must be president" prevarication isn't selling to anyone with hindsight.

We all know the plot- a plot for APC to cede power to pdp on a silver platter.

Why cant these idiots simply say something as simple as PDP must cede their party's ticket to an igbo man? Would the heavens collapse if they do? cheesy

Stop uttering garbage!
No foreign tribe makes money in Igboland? Honestly, lack of exposure has really messed you guys up real bad. FYI, there are lots of other tribes including foreign nationals all over the East making money. A Yoruba man lives in my compound. This man has been living there even before I moved in. According to him, he has lived in Owerri for over ten years and executes government contracts. This man is wealthy! Come to Douglas road here in Owerri and see hundreds of Northerners that have lived in Owerri for decades, many of them were born here and they speak Igbo fluently. I have a Togolese friend who is a building contractor and he often tells me that Igbos like giving him contracts because they trust him.

When I was living in Aba as a kid in the 90's, there was a certain Alhaji Labral who lived in my street. Dude was rich and drove fleet of cars. It was during the reprisal riots against killing of Igbos in Kaduna that made him to flee because lots of Northerners were killed and he got Intel early enough to escape.

Anyone who is in Owerri and listens to radio would know of a Yoruba man called Akintola AC. Dude is quite popular in auto mechanic and you should know that someone who runs daily radio advert is cashing out seriously. Again, if there is any phobia against Yorubas as you all always claim, will he be bearing Akintola AC as his business name?

Remain in your little village and be saying rubbish while the few of your brothers who are smart enough to compete in the East are cashing out seriously.

The question you should rather ask is, how many of you can withstand competition in business?

How many of you can pay higher rents?

How many of you are adventurous?

That would have been a noble idea.
But as it stands today, it will be an uphill task to cede the number one seat in the land to S/East. The best that can happen is to give them the Vice Presidential slot. My opinion though.

Politics is not a game of emotions it's a game of smartness and intelligence.
It's not a game of emotional blackmail.

You have to go for what you want and work very hard for it, you don't expect Presidential ticket to be given to you on a platter of gold, you have to work for it.

If Igbos want to be President they should balance their political game.

APC will not give its ticket to an Igbo candidate and the PDP that Igbos have been devoted to for years won't give its Presidential ticket to an Igbo person.

Igbos you want to be President?
Work for it, stop all these emotional blackmail, blame shifting, foul crying and bitter politics.

I rest my case
