Hello good morning. I need a professional advice on health issues. An Anonymous is currently at the hospital due to ovarian cyst complications. She experiences periodical stomach ache so she went for a test and it was discovered that her left ovary has cyst in it. Now they are saying she has to go through surgery which is scary. I need a professional advice on what other things she can do. Thanks.

Here is the medical test result that has the terms:

PELVIC USS
- The uterus is non-gravid, with uniform myometrial echo-texture. It measures about 40mm in its AP diameter.
- The endometrial plate is intact and normal.
- However, a sonolucent cyst mass with internal echoes is seen within the right adnexium measuring about 60mm × 52mm in size.
- Left adnexium and Pouch of Douglas appear normal.
- No Fibroid is seen.

CONCLUSION
I) Acyesis
II) Right Haemorrhagic Cyst

You may help me send this to frontpage, thanks.

Do you know if she has had a surgery before may be for something else?.

There is no big deal in the surgery... She will pull through. She can also use herbs. I once dated a lady with serious PCOS as it is called.

She has to go through surgery. A good surgeon can carry out the operation which doesn't take long and within 3 days she is on her feet. Just look for a good surgeon

When you have done the surgery, tell them to look at what is inside the cyst in the lab. This is imperative. It could be follicular, cancerous, benign, or endometriosis. If it is endometriosis, just tell your friend to prepare for a life of multiple surgeries. I am not trying to be pessimistic, just being real here. I know someone whose cyst grew back 6 weeks after surgery. There are many pages on Facebook for people with ovarian cysts. So many. Some of them have foreign doctors as group members. You will get better answers from there.

Shouldn't you have sat down and discussed these things with the doctor already attending to her?
If a cyst is symptomatic or large as in this case, it has already qualified for surgery.
Surgery shouldn't be scary if the person doing has the required training and experience in that specialty.
I don't know what you really want, but if it's a medicine or herbal concoctions that will "dissolve" it as most Nigerians usually say, no trained doctor will suggest that to you.
The condition requires a surgical solution.
If you're not comfortable with the level of training and experience of the doctor or services obtainable in the hospital, you look for another one.
If that cyst ruptures, it'll become a surgical emergency with a bigger threat to life, and higher risk of complications during surgeries.

Nothing else to add
Your warnings on the herbal and ruptures is on point
Well done and thank you

My wife did same operation 3 years ago and it was successful, she needs attention of a very good surgeon

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story. Was it a private hospital it was done? How big is her scar and how long did she spend in recovery post operation?

...

Get a gynae opinion..

Typify pain.. Is it intermittent or constantly there..
What analgesia does she need

As it looks chronic... Duration of pain.
Menstrual pattern in relation to pain.
Any previous surgeries or drug allergies

No signs of torsion or bleed into POD is reassuring... From Scan findings

Aim for .... Surgery in good laparoscopic gynae hands + anaesthetist with regular electricity

Otherwise monthly injections if thought to be endometriosis with scan surveillance

.

How much is laparoscopic surgery in Nigerian hospitals please? Private and public.

I had a 50mm x 45mm hemorraghic cyst once and it resolved by itself after 2 menstrual cycles. They usually don't operate unless it gets really big as it could lead to ovarian torsion.

Please do not allow her to go through surgery, surgery is not the solution to ovarian cyst. Use (STC30) Stem cell therapy to get her permanently cured of cyst and fibroids. For more information about this product check https://www.nairaland.com/5989809/cure-over-200-chronic-diseases

I have noticed Nigerians are usually afraid of surgeries and see it as 50:50 thing.
That's not how it should be.
The most common cause of death in the theatre is anaesthetic complications and transfusion reactions.
There's nothing to be afraid of if these areas are properly handled.
Discuss the mode of anaesthesia with your doctor.
Let the anaesthesia be handled by doctors trained in that area, ie an Anaesthetist.
They'll charge you a little bit more for that, but the patient will be safer, especially if its spinal anaesthesia in this case.
Let the doctor not be both the Surgeon and the Anaesthetist in the theatre, as do often do in most private hospitals.
The extra bill won't kill anyone.
When there is lack of professionalism everywhere why won't people be scared. Our hospitals are where people go to die.

Hello, do not allow anyone to scare you here. What she had is called a PCOD or a PCOS( poly cystic ovarian disease otherwise known as a poly cystic ovarian syndrome). It's a number of cysts formed around the ovaries. This is irrespective of age as we see similar cases on a regular basis.

The surgery is minor, during which mostly a PCOD needle and other laparosopic instruments would be used and she would be fine.

It's better to remove it through operation than to take drugs. Taking that drugs will still make the cyst to grow again with time.
